Konami and UEFA parting
Konami recently announced they will not be partnering with UEFA this year for the Champions League or Europa League rights. It has not been said if EA will buy the rights but it makes the most sense that FIFA will now finally get the rights to the main license they are missing.Current careers:

Re: Konami and UEFA parting
With all the FUT money that EA is bringing in, the UEFA license should be a drop in the bucket.
Will this mean EA goes all out in career mode and has a licensed World Cup and Euro tournament available? Doubtful.

Re: Konami and UEFA parting
My main reason for not managing a WC team is the games feel like exhibition games. But I'll be happy with updating European leagues for now. I'm sick of the "Champions Cup" when league games and the FA cup games have such great presentations.Current careers:

Too much opportunity for EA to expand revenue with the license. No way they pass on it. Champs League special edition FUT cards, Champs League legends, etc...Comment

Just like with SCEA and The Show, now EA will have the soccer market cornered.Comment

Re: Konami and UEFA parting
The weird thing about it is how Konami really doubled down with it's team licenses and exclusive partnerships or whatever they call them these past few years. I wonder if that recent licensing investment is internally viewed as a failure based on lack of sales growth, and they'll start to let licenses go.Comment

This is HUGE news for FIFA fans. We may have to wait for FIFA 20 though for any implementation. But incredible news nonetheless.Comment

Re: Konami and UEFA parting
There is no way in hell EA won't include the CL in 19. And also no chance of no one holding the licence for a whole year.
All they need is one song, one cutscene, one scoreboard and a quick search and replace "champions cup" -> "champions league". The only question is whether they'll want to do even more with the licence than konami ever did.
They will want to announce it closer to release when it will have the biggest positive impact for them, although I guess that may not be entirely possible as it won't be a secret when the deal is done.Comment

Re: Konami and UEFA parting
It would take them no time at all to just add the music, presentation elements and menu graphics to the tournament modes already in the game.
But first, and most importantly, they will add UCL FUT packs. Who knows, they might make it FUT exclusive.Comment

Originally posted by HonomeI really doubt that UEFA will accept to put their brand in a product called FIFA, unless it´s tons of money or a separate game like was made in the past.Comment

Originally posted by HonomeRelationship between UEFA and FIFA are not good nowadays.
Also they will be dealing with EA, not with FIFA.
I guess everything is possible, but if you're right maybe I should check my wallet and make an offer myself. It will be better than nothing for them, and thankfully my parents didn't name me Fifa, so I should be ok.Comment

Re: Konami and UEFA parting
Personally, I don't think this is the lock for EA that everyone says it is. And even if they do get the license it's highly possible they put most of their effort into FUT like everything else. Too many missed opportunities and poor efforts from EA this generation for me to get too excited. Just look at the complete radio silence regarding the World Cup. Honestly I've played FIFA so little the last two years it's not even bothering me too much, too many good games to waste time on EA games.Comment
