Carrying 13 pitchers or an 8 man bullpen seems to be an up and coming trend in baseball these days. I'm starting my franchise tonight and I'm curious what you all do. For those of you who do a fair share of simming in your franchise, have you noticed much of an impact either way?

Re: 12 or 13 pitchers?
I typically start my franchise with the same roster my team has, the Cubs are my team and they have an 8 man bullpen so that's what I'll be using. -

Re: 12 or 13 pitchers?
Teams seem to be pushing starters less to go deeper into games and favoring individual matchups more out of the pen. Limited bat options off the bench require more versatile players that can play more positions which seems to also be popular.
By the way, not sure if the Braves started the season this way, but they were considering an 8 man bullpen earlier this year: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.mlb...-2018.amp.html

Re: 12 or 13 pitchers?
Thanks for the explanation. The Braves have a lot of moving pieces right now and things feel tentative. They opened the season with an 8-man pen. 7 are still there and Luke Jackson has been added since. Right now it's at 9 since we haven't had to use a 5. Anibal Sanchez has been coming out of the pen and will likely be joining the rotation this weekend. Things will change again once Camargo, Gohara, and Flowers come back. But for the time being it looks like 8 is the number Snitker is going with.Braves | Titans | VolunteersComment

Re: 12 or 13 pitchers?
12 for current rosters & 11 for 1980's rosters.
But really, each season you just need to find 2 relievers with at least 1 option apiece that dont figure into your long-term plans, & just constantly shuttle 'em back & forth from Triple AAA & the Show. Yeah, you might hurt your farm club's chances of winning but the minors function isn't to win anyways. That way you can in reality field a 26-man roster.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: 12 or 13 pitchers?
I like keeping 13 pitchers, but it means I need a lot of position players with versatility. So sometimes it takes a year or some trades to get that set up.Comment

Re: 12 or 13 pitchers?
I've usually kept a starter as a swing/long man, and seven other guys. There comes a time in every franchise where I have to call up another starter and keep him there for a bit. Sometimes it's because of extra innings, or from my bullpen being shoved into lockers on a nightly basis...METS. NY FOOTBALL GIANTS. PENGUINS. HURRICANE FOOTBALL. LEBRON.

Re: 12 or 13 pitchers?
If I'm really comfortable with my staff, I'll go with as few as 5 relievers. Otherwise, usually I go with 6.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment
