    Recommended Indie Games

I apologize if there is already a thread similar to this one, but I didn't find anything recent on indie games.

I have a PS4 and XBO S. I am pumped about what Sony has coming up in 2018, but as of right now I cant say the same about Microsoft. To be completely honest I think I have grown tired of the AAA game formula in general. Most of the games are so derivative nowadays. I am always seeking something fresh and fun, with a great story. I am also one of the few that prefers linearity over open world (in most cases). So I got to thinking...why not try out some indie games. I had a few in mind I was checking out on the MS store last night:

    Ruiner
    Saturday Morning RPG
    Sonic Mania (not an indie)
    SOMA

Do you all have any suggestions/recommendations for XBO or Steam?

    Thanks

I wanna buy this but heard it's stupid hard. I don't mind a good challenge at all, but I also don't want "throw your controller at the TV" type difficulty either. Im in my late thirties so my gaming skills aint what they used to be. Can you comment on the difficulty in your experience?

If you're looking for something heartfelt and artistic, Flower, Journey, and The Unfinished Swan are all really good picks, and they are bundled together.

Towerfall: Ascension, SportsFriends, and Nidhogg are really good local multiplayer games.

I also really enjoyed OlliOlli2, and Super Meat Boy. Both are good if you like that old school fast twitch reflex style of gaming, and OlliOlli2 is probably one of the best skateboarding games to come out in years.... which is kind of sad.

Edit: Just realized you asked for PC and XBone only. My bad.

SOMA is incredible; probably the best Sci-Fi story in gaming. I think they recently updated it with an official mode for the monsters to not harm you, which I think makes the game better. Before it was just a mod on PC.

My favorite indies from this year:
              • What Remains of Edith Finch
              • Hollow Knight
              • Hellblade
              • Cuphead
              • Cosmic Star Heroin
              • Divinity Original Sin 2

I still got Night in the Woods, Pyre, and Little Nightmares that I want to get to after hearing some many great things about them. Really there's so many indies, especially on PC. Just search indies with tags of interest and you will surely find a lot. Winter sale starts next Thursday (21st) too.

It's definitely challenging and will test your patience. I ended up dying 394 times, but loved every second of it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have a PS4 too so I don't mind those suggestions either. Decided on Ruiner and Sonic Mania right now and haven't been disappointed.

I will consider SOMA, FTL, and Edith Finch in the near future. Heard good things about all of those.

I've been playing Ruiner the past few days. Took me a little over 6 hours to get through and I thought it was great, but at the same time, really left me wanting more. Combat is really fun, satisfying, and stylish. But the world (Akira meets Blade Runner) is so great that I want more towns, characters, and story. The hub town looks and sounds so awesome, but you don't really do much in it. I would love to see a Ruiner 2 with an expanded world.

Agreed. I am a sucker for sci-fi, cyberpunk type atmosphere and this doesn't disappoint. I am about halfway through and don't have many complaints other than the barebones story and lack of environmental interaction. But the combat and boss fights have been fun.

Firewatch and Transistor... easy. I thoroughly enjoyed both of those games. Excellent.

I don't even know what this franchise is considered anymore, but the original Life is Strange is worth a look.

Late Shift is a very cool game that I discovered a few months ago. You're basically playing out a make your own adventure movie. It looks a lot higher budget than you'd think something like this would be. However, I wouldn't spend much on it because it's short and the replay value isn't there.

I got on the Journey game late, but it was very enjoyable as well. There is no dialogue whatsoever. Music, the art style and the journey itself is what makes it interesting.

def super mega baseball is one of the best games I've played in the past few years.

BUT they are coming out with a sequel in the spring.

Also, Gang Beasts snuck out unnoticed on Dec 12th, so I bought that since I had originally been super excited about it years ago. It's fun, but I really need to get a better handle on the controls

If you were a fan of Advance Wars about 10 years ago, Tiny Metal came out today for the PS4 and PC. Only seen positive reviews so far.
