    NHL 18 Revamped Rosters

Here are the NHL 18 Revamped Rosters. I went though and re-rated every NHL player based off of stats and scouting reports.

Happy editing! And cross our fingers for roster sharing next year!

YES. Or, the ability to share rosters files through other programs like Horizon, Bruteforce etc. I love to do attribute edits (as I did with NHL 2k10, NHL 14, MLB 2k12, MLB 2k13) but just can't. Need that ability on these new consoles unlocked or a share feature with an editor.

      THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

Great work as usual Simple. Will definitely be spending the next couple days grinding through editing rosters. My dream is that one day NHL has both roster sharing and 31 (or 32 based on expansion) team control (ala 2K). Think of the franchise possibilities...

The individual attributes that are currently in the spreadsheet are based on the old overall formulas as well as the previous year’s overall ratings spread, so you guys will need to do some fine-tuning when you put the attributes into your game in order to reach the correct overalls.

If someone can figure out the new formulas I can revise the attributes.
I'll attempt this again. I tried last year, but didn't get any better than you already had. I have been playing with a new toy ( R ) that's better than excel at this stuff.

EDIT: I'm assuming the OVR column is the game-calculated OVR? Even for those players not highlighted green?

Hats off for your hard work, but I must throw my two cents in. In no world does Sidney Crosby shoot harder than Alex Ovechkin. Crosby having a 99 wrist and slapshot power is ridiculous.

I know Ovechkin can shoot harder than Crosby in real life. However, attributes like shooting and passing are based off of statistics. Crosby had the most goals last year, so he has the highest shooting attributes.

The simulation engine in Franchise Mode bases its stats off of attributes. So if it reads that Crosby has worse shooting attributes than Ovechkin, odds are that Crosby will score less goals than Ovechkin. These attributes are geared toward getting the most realistic stats possible in Franchise Mode. So yes, some things like shooting power have to be skewed a bit in order to get realistic stats.

Thank you!! The OVR column is simply the target overalls I assigned for each player to try to reach when assigning attributes. I don’t have the game-calculated overalls listed in the spreadsheet.

I'll need the game-calculated overalls in order to have something to run the numbers against. I don't have a copy of NHL18 yet, so I cant go in and get the attributes.

I haven’t put them into the game yet. If anybody else has put the attributes into the game, could you list some overalls for us?

                          Re: NHL 18 Revamped Rosters

I made a pretty big discovery. I think anyway. I used the attributes from the EA website for the top 10 players in each position, and got some others from some youtube videos showing some players individual attributes with their OVR, and started messing with the coefficients.

As I looked at my errors, I noticed they were all "normal." As in, on a normal curve. So I tried a few things, and found that if you change the individual attributes to a cumulative probability (NORMDIST() function in Excel and Sheets) with a mean of 67 and a standard deviation of 32 (in other words, the 1 sigma goes from 35 to 99, the range of the attributes) you get a number like .774 for an attribute at 88. Multiply that by 100, you get 77.4.

Now use those numbers and figure out the coefficients for each attribute, and you get dang close. Of the 47 players I was able to analyze, 46 were dead nuts. Jack Eichel was 1 off. I did this all in Excel and using R to get the coefficients, but I added the formulas to a copy of your spreadsheet. I only did this for F, but I'll do D as well, I just need someone to get some attributes and overalls from the game for me. I don't have the time to do it like I did for F.

This is awesome! Thanks!! I will get you a ton of attributes and overalls within the next few days. I’ll get forwards, defensemen, and goalies. I’ll get a broad range of players too - from AHL/junior 4th liners to NHL superstars. I think having a broader range will help nail down the formula.

Thanks again man I really appreciate it!

Hey Simple Mathematics, what's your typical time line for releasing your first update after the season starts? Waiting to start my franchise until then and curious what the usual time line is. Thanks!

PS: I really hope that one day we can edit ratings midseason.
