    2K17 Smart Rotations Thread

Hey guys, 2K17 comes out in a week and I wanted to get a head start on smart rotations for each team. For those who aren't aware, this year we can set how many minutes each player plays in each quarter, and which minute mark they get subbed out/subbed in. I can't do this by myself, but I want to include it in my roster set this year. Here is an image of how it works via the MyLeague blog:

There are some distinct substitution patterns that I'm aware of, such as Rick Carlisle likes to sub Dirk Nowitzki out after the first 6 minutes, and brings him back in with 1/2 minutes remaining in the quarter to play with the bench, and lets him play the first 3 minutes of the 2nd quarter before subbing him back out and putting him back in to finish the last 6 minutes of the half.

But there are 29 other teams and I can't possibly do it all. Any help would be appreciated, maybe some of you know your teams substitution patterns well from watching so many games. Let's make this as realistic as possible.

I will start a spreadsheet with all the substitution patterns soon.

The rotations work perfectly once you set them up when simming or playing. Only problem is the cpu sticks with the rotations even when a player gets in foul trouble.

this is great tool to use.

its important though to be mindful of end of the bench players playing 4th quarter minutes in blowouts.

some of these guys only play when the game has already been decided so they are listed as playing 60 or more percent of their minutes at the end of the game. for anyone interested in using this, take that into consideration.

I use to update the rotations of nba.com after they play the game so it can be official and most of the time the 5 players with the most minutes finish the game

Saw this on reddit.com/r/nba about a month a ago and knew this link needed to make it into this thread.

Alex commented and said that he plans to update for the 16-17 season, but to not expect anything until there's enough data to make it relevant so this thread will be useful in the meantime.

Awesome news. I figured he'd need a large enough sample size before he makes any of that data available.

I've begun putting together the spreadsheet. I've started with the teams that have mostly retained their same roster and key players. Which is...not many teams, considering all the coaching changes and player movement this summer. But we'll have that info available later in the season thankfully. I'll fill in the pieces till then.

I noticed this as well. But from skimming through the data of different teams, I noticed most players play the same intervals in the 1st and 2nd halves. So in cases like the Warriors where Steph Curry might only be displayed as having played 50% of his teams 4th quarter possessions, I just went ahead and copied the same block of time that he got in the 2nd quarter. Because the substitution patterns between the 1st and 2nd quarter are pretty consistent with the substitution patterns in the 3rd and 4th.

The game will adjust for those garbage time minutes in the case of a blowout I'm sure.
