This is a list of players who have their real faces in NHL 17.
The list will (hopefully) continue to grow as we discover more faces.
Bold names mean they are new faces in NHL 17.

Alright so here is the updated list for NHL 17!
It was a very busy off-season. All players are with their real life teams. Note that the BETA does not include updated rosters, so you will find certain players on their last year’s teams.

I have scoped out about 15 teams for new faces. The list is very underwhelming thus far but remember, this is a work in progress! I’m confident faces for Holtby, Kuznetsov, Kucherov or Scheifele to name a few will be added on release or by roster update shortly after release.

There are way more generic faces so player likeness is more achievable, but don’t be fooled! Some players resemble who they're intended to, but aren’t actual scans. I still can’t figure out B. Wheeler in Winnipeg or B. Smith in Detroit. Let me know what you guys think.

There are some inactive players of the UFA part of the list. I'll remove those and tidy it up once the game is released. Regardless the faces are probably still lingering in the database somewhere. Some players on the list are still active, but are yet to sign with new teams. I'll update that as the off-season progresses.

Lastly, I’m not great with coding or HTML or whatever… If anyone knows how I can get the Montreal Canadiens logo back on the post beside the team name, I’d appreciate the help. Thanks!

Got a few more teams done. They definitely got their Canucks scanned. There were so many to run through on the bench, I may have missed some. Tanev was a possibility. I sure hope they got more names in though. It would be ridiculous to have Cody Eakin for Dallas in, and still not have Justin Faulk in Carolina... We'll see.

I found more Canucks believe it or not. I still feel like I may have missed some cause the generics are starting to really resemble certain players. Granlund and Tanev are the names I'm unsure of for Vancouver, and Zajac in New Jersey.

The new scans are distinguishable this year cause the players' skin tones look a little too pink. I know that sounds weird when you read it but once you get a chance to see it, you'll know what I mean. I'm not complaining by the way, I'm always happy to see new scans.

This is what I read however long ago.


If you scroll down to the section "Player Likeness" the writer claims he was given a number of over 50% of players on NHL rosters were scanned.


Does it mean anything? I don't know.


I don't know how credible the source is and even if that amount of players were scanned, I could sure believe that EA would let if go to waste.

I would of expected Faulk to have it done. I see him on screen when you chose Carolina but I have yet to play a game with them. I'll do them next. Maybe Rask or Lindholm got scanned but I'm doubtful.

Murray doesn't, I forgot to check Andersen. But if Holtby isn't first priority after his stellar campaign, I doubt we'll see goalies this year. About Carolina, Noah Hanfin is the only new addition. I'm unbothered by the rest because playing a single game with them was crucial. Buffalo on the other hand, has no new scans but is the most enjoyable team to use so far!

Absolutely! The game itself will contain a lot more data. Assigning specific faces to players is all in the coding. Remember, last year faces like Johnny Gaudreau for example, were added through roster updates. They could be adding them in all year!

New Jersey doesn't even have Travis Zajac, and he's been in the league 11 years.
