Storm Warning - A NHL 16 Carolina Hurricanes BaGM

Welcome to my NHL 16 Carolina Hurricanes Dynasty!

I will try to bring the Cup back to Raleigh, NC as I take the reigns of a franchise that has missed the playoffs the last 6 years.

Playing as General Manager Ron Francis in just his second season.

    SETTINGS:
    System: PS4
    Difficulty: All-Star
    Period Length: 6 Minutes
    Sliders: AlTito's with adjustments
    Trading: Hard

As there is now roster sharing I have added many authentic prospects using websites as Hockey Future and Petrpuck as a guideline.

To make things interesting I have created the next Generational Player that could be drafted in 2019-2020. More on that later.

MEDIA PREDICTING TOUGH SEASON FOR REBUILDING CANES

              October 6th, 2015

Carolina Hurricanes General Manager Ron Francis enters the second year of his tenure with the team in significantly better shape than it was when he initially took over nearly 15 months ago. He has stockpiled draft picks—the team has a combined 10 picks in the first three rounds of the next two drafts, including two first rounders in 2016—and made good on his promise to stock the organization with bigger players to compete in today’s NHL.

On the ice, Carolina could be in for another difficult season. Francis has promised to build the organization from the ground up, which means drafting and developing prospects at a methodical pace. Yes, 2015 first-round pick Noah Hanifin made the team’s opening night roster and looks like he will be an NHLer at 18. But overall, the team seems dedicated to giving their prospects ample time to develop before subjecting them to the rigours of the best league in the world. Besides Hanifin, two other new faces will be in the dressing room this year. Sebastian Aho has made the team out of training camp and is coming fresh off his game winning OT goal to secure the league title for Karpat, look for him to try to adapt to the North American game in the first few games. The other face is Anders Danielsen, a little known free agent signing from Norway. The silky smooth skater plied his trade in the Swiss League the previous season and will also be watched as he adjusted to the NHL.

With the contracts of Eric Staal and Cam Ward set to expire at season’s end, Francis is in for even bigger and more difficult decisions in the months ahead. But there is still plenty to look forward to from Carolina’s youth. The AHL’s Charlotte Checkers have a new coach, Mark Morris, and have several prospects in the system including Brock McGinn, Haydn Fleury and Lucas Wallmark.

CANES DEAL WITH EARLY SETBACK BEFORE SEASON OPENER IN NASHVILLE

                October 8th, 2015

As the Hurricanes prepare to start the 2015-16 season on the road, the team learned that they will not have veteran netminder Cam Ward. Ward suffered a hamstring injury in practice prior to tomorrow's game and has been ruled out. That means the burden will have to be shouldered by newly acquired Eddie Lack, who joins the team after playing 2 seasons in Vancouver. The 27 year old was expected to split starts with Ward; who is now 31.

Kris Versteeg will make his Carolina Hurricanes début; fresh off his Stanley Cup win, and being traded last season. He is expected to slot in next to Jordan Staal on the second line and see top Power Play minutes.

The Hurricanes will begin the season with 3 rookies in the lineup. 1 forward and 2 defenseman. It's no surprise that Noah Hanifin; the 5th Overall Pick in the 2015 draft, will start on the top pairing with Justin Faulk as he has shown in rookie camp and training camp that he is ready for the rigours of the NHL. Norwegian import Anders Danielsen will also be in the lineup on a very young 3rd pairing with Ryan Murphy. The silky smooth skating Norwegian should help with the transition game as he has proved that he has a very good first pass. The last new face will be Sebastien Aho; who is expected to see limited minutes on the 4th line, while he adjusts to the North American ice surface.

                  GAME 1 - Bridgestone Arena

                  October 8th, 2015

                  1
                  4

The Hurricanes dropped the season opener after giving up 3 goals in the first period. A lack of team effort and some poor turnovers put the team behind early.

The team did seem to play better as the game progressed, so there is hope that the team just needed to shake off some rust.

The Canes scored a late Powerplay marker (1/4 on the night) when Eric Staal made a cross ice pass to Jeff Skinner, who redirected the puck for an easy goal.

                    GAME 2 - PNC Arena

                    October 10th, 2015

                    2
                    1

                    (0-2-0)

The Hurricanes returned back to Raleigh for their Home Opener. Cam Ward was still unavailable so Eddie Lack got his second consecutive start.

The Canes fell behind early when Glendening capitalized on a turnover and sniped his first of the season. Carolina was able to tie the game late in the 1st, when Eric Staal connected with Lindholm on the Powerplay (1/3) for his first of the season.

After a scoreless 2nd period, time was winding down in the 3rd and Murphy took a tripping penalty, sending the Red Wings to the PP. It didn't take long for Datsyuk to connect with Zetterberg to give Detroit the go ahead goal. It proved to be the difference as the Canes fall to 0-2-0 to start the season.

I like the brief & concise game descriptions. No need to go in depth for 82 games! Good luck going forward, I know Carolina will be a tough slog

Thanks for the positive comments. I use to go full out with box scores and the works but I find that just burns you out, which often leads to your dynasty prematurely ending.

Hopefully, by keeping it simple this chise will have some longevity.

                          GAME 3 - PNC Arena

                          October 13th, 2015

                          5

                          (1-2-0)

Cam Ward returned back to the lineup as the Canes played host to the Florida Panthers.

Carolina was able to take an early 2-0 lead thanks to two Powerplay goals from Jordan Staal and Elias Lindholm. After Florida rallied to tie the game, the Canes were sent back to the Powerplay, when Barkov took a hooking penalty. On the ensuing Powerplay, 2015 1st Round Pick Noah Hanifin scored his first NHL Goal on a beautiful one timer from the high slot to put the Canes up 3-2 (3/4 on the PP).

Victor Rask added an early reassurance goal in the 3rd and then added his second of the night on the empty net, as the Canes pick up their first win of the season.

Thanks for the positive comments. I use to go full out with box scores and the works but I find that just burns you out, which often leads to your dynasty prematurely ending.

Hopefully, by keeping it simple this chise will have some longevity.
I found that happened to me a lot on the old dynasty nation site too. I think you have a good plan in keeping it simple. Congrats on your first win too!
