I don't think you'll see licensed music returning for the menu soundtrack anytime soon, for better or worse.

Thematically speaking, it's my opinion that the orchestral score the game has had in the past couple versions fits the game well. I do wish they'd include more NFL Films music in addition to the game's original score, however.

Was I the only one that loved Madden 08's soundtrack?

Especially The Bravery's "Believe", I loved that song.

Pretty sure it was 07 and 11 that both had solid soundtracks, 12 was pretty bad. Doubt they ever go back to licensed music unfortunately

madden 02's soundtrack was the GOAT.

and even though most of the songs on M12's soundtrack were atrocious i would much rather prefer that than the nfl films-esque background music which is terrible

Pretty sure PS4 is getting a patch soon that will allow you to put your music on it.

The most recent news on this is that it should arrive before the Holidays at the end of the year, and it will be strictly USB based, from what has been shared so far.

As far as the soundtrack, I remember reading that it costed quite a bit to have licensed music in the game. Having said that, I really miss it and can't stand what was put in last yr's game.

Madden 03-06 had amazing soundtracks. All of EAs other games have real soundtracks. I don't understand why they removed them from Madden.

I think it was 07, but all the NFL Films music (especially the Sam Spence remixes by DA Riffs), yeah, those were dope.
