Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
If it were up to me, I'd hold off on giving him one(unless they have to give him one this year). Felt like he kind've underachieved this season and didn't look like the same player he did last year. I'm not saying to let him test the FA waters but I'd take a wait and see approach with him just to make sure this was just a one year slump for him.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
The Mavs don't have many free agents this year, contrary to last year. Only guys whose contracts are expiring are:
Dirk (but he's already gonna be re-signing at a much lower salary)
Marion
Vince Carter
Devin Harris
DeJuan Blair
Bernard James (RFA)
And Jae Crowder has a team option, which I'm pretty confident the Mavs will pick up as its not enough for $1 million.
Looking at that list, you have to think Devin Harris will be back. I can't see the market on him being particularly high and he didn't even play a full season this year. I think he will want to come back as a Mav, he originally had a two year deal signed with us anyways. Blair is iffy, if the Mavs manage to pull off a big name starting center, he might not be back, but once again, I can't see the market being huge on a 6'7" center. Sarge, unfortunately, isn't likely to come back. He was always fun to root for and I think his game actually improved while he was here for the past two years, but he's a 29 year old 6'10" center with basically no offensive game, I can't see him sticking around unless the Mavs end up missing out on any free agent centers and just roll with what they had last year.
And that narrows it down to Shawn Marion and Vince Carter. IMO, Shawn Marion is likely gone. There are quite a few talented, much younger, defensive minded 3's that will be available, the most notable being Luol Deng. Marion's value dropped a lot this season. His offensive game grinded to a pretty screeching halt as the series went on and he was pretty damn terrible on the offensive end against the Spurs. He's still a pretty damn solid defender and I love the guy, but I just don't see him coming back next year unless he wants to retire a Mav and will take a pay cut and minutes cut to stay. Carter, contrary to the rumors about the Raptors, will be back I think. There's a few reasons: he's established himself nicely here as a sixth man, and he's likely to be able to stay in that kind of role, regardless of who we sign in the offseason due to his versatility. Now, if someone goes to offers him a bunch of money, he might take it, but I foresee Vince being a Maverick again next year.
Carter and Marion would also be valuable sign-and-trade pieces if that kind of situation were to arise. I don't think the rest of the guys that are becoming free agents hold much value trade wise other than maybe Harris.NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

His first half of the season was full of ups and downs. It did look like he was regressing a bit, but since the beginning March, he has looked very good. He looks as if he is finally developing into the 2 guard that GS wants moving forward.
I imagine they will try to extend him now to try and get a bargain like they did with Steph. He's been very important to this team and I think they would rather not take a risk with letting him enter free agency. With that said, I'm not sure how big of an offer he will get from them.
