Swing Influence - When to use?

    Hi All,

I have dabbled in the series before, but not seriously. Decided to jump in at the start of MLB 14: The Show and have a question about Swing Influence.

I have turned off the guess pitch so I can learn to read pitches better but almost every contact I make ends up being a deep fly ball that is easily caught, mostly down the center of the field.

I noticed there is an option to influence the swing (R + RS and direction) but the game isn't clear as to how to use this.

At what point of the action to I make this decision?

    1. Choose a direction and keep it held even while hitting the button to swing
    2. As the pitcher winds up until he releases the ball
    3. Just as the pitcher releases the ball then let go before you hit

I am just lost here, as there is no indication on the Vita as to whether it is locked in (I am told on the PS3 the pad vibrates). Also, do you hold the buttons, or just tap and flick?

I know also that it won't be perfect every time, but I am yet to see any influence so must be doing something wrong.

The input is done at the same time you input the guess pitch. Meaning anytime before the pitcher goes into their wind up. I'm not sure if it would be effected by disabling guess pitch though, but I honestly do not seem why it should.

So before the wind up hold the R1 button and input the direction you want the influence to be. Then let go.
