    Couple things....Please Read

First, I think it's fair that everyone understands where this is coming from...

I'm not a 2k fan, nor am I an EA fan. I'm a fan of football video games and I have been since the little floppy disk version of John Elway football (atari before that lol).

This is a request as a moderator but more importantly as a fellow poster of this site just like all of you.

We ALL want the same thing, and trust me, I feel just as frustrated with the state of where the game is right now as many of you but that isn't the point right now.

This forum is here to discuss Madden. The good, the bad and everything in between (left the comma out for the oxford dictionary guys).

It is NOT a forum to discuss 2k5 or NBA2k.

I've posted a similar sentiment in several threads so to those of you who have seen those posts this is going to sound redundant but I do feel it important for everyone to see.

If you want to bring up 2k for comparison purposes? That is 100% okay. But in order to do that, you have to actually compare something. Specifically.

Ex: 2k's line interaction was significantly better than Madden right now. Here is what 2k did and here is what Madden does (as an example). Provide proof of what you are trying to prove essentially.

If you want to bring up 2k as a means of insulting Madden or EA, that is not okay.

Ex: 2k did this better 8 years ago, EA sucks. (Not acceptable)

Ex2: I can only imagine what 2k would be today on next gen. (We have a 2k forum if you want to discuss what might have been).

I promise you, I have no issue with the discussion of EA and 2k. But it needs to be done constructively. Yes, this is a discussion site, but I think most of us have been here long enough to see the conversations that happen when people start to constantly bash a game (deservedly or not). It just gets us nowhere.

    Okay, enough of that....

    Point two:

    Trolling.......

Guys, there has been a lot of trolling going on and from people who have been here long enough to know it is trolling.

Sadly, it's pretty much coming from the group of people who seem to have an ax to grind with EA and more importantly, anyone who likes the game. You don't see those who actually enjoy the game going on a crusade against those who don't which you can't say for the opposite.

It's OKAY to like the game. It's not a crime. If someone likes the game and you want to have a discussion about what about it they like? Fine.

But don't anyone call into question someone's intellect or anything personal for doing so. That WILL NOT be tolerated.

    The trolling needs to stop.

    Okay. Last thing.

I do need to remind some of you about this portion of the TOS:

    VIP's
You will notice we have many VIP's who post here, designated by their name in a purple color. Many of them are game developers or guests at Operation Sports. They are to be respected at all times. If you want to interact with our VIP's, you are to keep the discussion mature and in a professional manner. Any type of attack will not be tolerated.

I'm not going to say much about this since the TOS says it all.

Constructive critisism is perfectly okay. The devs can choose to use it or ignore it but that is up to them.

The second it gets personal though (calling them lazy (as an example), which I assure you they are not) is when it goes to far.

Other than that, remember guys, we ultimately all want the same thing. Why we fight over some of this stuff is beyond me yet I do understand it will happen on a message board.

I'm just asking, for the sanity of the mods, for the sanity of other posters, and for the sanity of you and me. Please (and in the words of Glenn Frey) "Take it easy."

Also just to add, and maybe most importantly: I will fully admit that even as a mod, I haven't always been a perfect poster and I don't want to be hypocritical. I don't think anyone has been. I'm not necessarily asking for perfection, I'm asking that we all use more discretion and candor.

Good for this to finally be being enforced...it was getting tiresome...

Although it's going to be a bit quiet here now....like maybe 3 people will be able to post....

Great writeup Kehlis. The level of bashing that has been going on recently is ridiculous. It's one thing to be disappointed with an aspect of Madden but some of the things I've seen posted are downright brutal. A better, calmer level of discussion needs to take place. Hopefully it will moving forward

          Kehlis,

Unfortunately as longtime fans of virtual football games EA Sports has left most of us without a choice for comparison reasons. So it's only a natural by-product of EA's actions that we are forced to compare Madden to not only games that were made years upon years ago, but other current sports games. Since you used one of my posts as an example I feel the need to justify my position.

When there is a thread posted in the Madden forum regarding next gen sports games in general, that cites an article reviewing multiple next gen sports games-
I don't think it is off the mark to make a comment on one of the many sports games being highlighted in the said post when it is posted in the Madden forum. After watching the footage referenced in that specific post, the first thought that came to mind (after watching the NBA2k vid) was wow " I can only imagine what NFL2k would look like on next Gen" I felt that due to the experience level of sports gamers here I did not need to elaborate on my specific post. I was simply replying to a thread that was covering ALL of the next Gen sports titles, not just Madden.

I understand the need for some moderation and you make some valid points, especially with the imminent release of Next Gen Madden. I am hoping the Madden forums are not going to be overly censored now because of posters with personal agendas on both side of the debate.

As I said to you last week in response to your PM that you never responded to I never said you can't talk about other games.

Just do it with valid comparisons.

Since I know why you are mad about this I will say again, public this time since you decided to make it so, your post about wondering how great 2k could be was deleted because it doesn't have a place in the Madden forum.

Again, if you want to wonder how great 2k could be, there is a forum for that....

Edit: And no, the forum isn't going to be "over moderated." Actually things have been allowed that weren't previously so the forum is going to be brought back to the standard it once was held to.

Could I have articulated that a little better-sure- but with the amount of posters on here that have been around the block I didn't feel that I need to fully explain my post. I am not a 2k fan boy nor have any of my posts touched on anything that your main point seems to be.
Again, that's all "What could have been."

              Irrelevant to current discussion.

If you main point was something you didn't even talk about, maybe talk about it????

I'm not claiming you to be a 2k fanboy and I hate that terminology all together but that is also irrelevant.

I find it funny that you would use my specific comment out of all of the comments on the Madden forum as an example.
You're the only person who sent me a PM that I responded to that instead of ignoring my response you came here to post.....

I almost wholeheartedly agree with your post and sentiments kehlis.

The one thing I disagree with, is when you say:

"Sadly, it's pretty much coming from the group of people who seem to have an ax to grind with EA and more importantly, anyone who likes the game. You don't see those who actually enjoy the game going on a crusade against those who don't which you can't say for the opposite."

In my experience, which is undoubtedly less than yours, I see plenty of people that enjoy the game "on a crusade" against those who don't, and I don't even read every single thread or post...

Again, other than that, I couldn't agree more with the spirit of this thread and the reason for its impetus.

I've found that even if the criticism is delivered in a logical, eloquent and respectful manner, if it remains resolute in its stance and ruffles the wrong feathers, the mods here on OS are quick to ban people and/or close threads. I've also seen too many mods routinely break the very rules they're supposed to be enforcing.

                          Oh well. C'est la vie.
