I only read the be a gm part. Doesn't sound like correct contract numbers are being addressed, at least no mention of it. Looks like it will be a rent first before purchase again for me.

I like the fact they are making 'big men' not be as good as poke checking as smaller players, although I think more needs to be done. Much like NBA2k series where the bigger you make your guy, the less points you get to upgrade him.

Boarding and interference penalties being called more is a plus. I know they are working on cutting down on hits after you get rid of the puck, this will be good for online as most idiots just go around checking everyone.

Fight engine, players outside the central fight could potentially have fights during EASHL.. this is dumb as hell and is going to be overused so I hope they don't do this..

"
  • Skill progression doesn't take into account player performance on the ice or the amount of playing time they receive in the minors as much as EA Canada would like it to in the future. This means you don't have to worry nearly as much about high-round draft picks sitting behind career minor leaguers on your AHL team as you would in real life."
Good news on this..

"Given the increased focus on checks and dekes, some fans have expressed worry that NHL 14 will be too arcade-like and lose the sim aspects that drew them to the series. Ramjagsingh assured us this is not the case."
get the heck out of here with that, people came to EA for a realistic game? lol

Quote:
"EA Canada hasn't made any tweaks to the faceoff mechanics for NHL 14, though they are making it easier to win draws on lower skill levels."
same old stuff here..

NHL 2K8, 2K10, still with better face offs. NHL Hitz Pro, an arcade game had better face offs. sigh

Quote:
"Puck pickups and pass targeting are being tweaked as well. The passes should be more in line so it should be easier to lead a player properly if you aim correctly."
sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. my backhand sauce between 5 guys skates, sticks, legs, shins, equipment, etc etc etc will be even better. sigh!

Quote:
"Tapping the left trigger results in a spin move. From here the game reads the left stick and the direction you are going and then picks the right direction for you to spin."
so now, we will be using left trigger to square up for a one timer. puck gets deflected or whatever, player picks up puck, and instead of one timing it, we spin around like a mess and get off the slow back hand animation shot from 40 feet away.

Quote:
"A lack of goal scoring was once again an area fans called out in NHL 13. For this year's game, one of EA's big focuses is goal-scoring balance. One engineer has spent the entire year working on goalies so users see more realistic goals. EA says you can expect to see more pucks squeak through under the goalie's arms and in the five-hole."
awesome.. they spent time on something that was already in the game. turn on auto aim prior to playing a game vs CPU, boom. same goals they just talked about.

Quote:
"The other big change in goal scoring is EA wants the players to be rewarded more often for reading the goalie and shooting in the right spot."
so, easier snipe jobs?
-----------

the GM Connected stuff. NOTHING talked about that would help a commish move the league along smoother. canceling results, etc. hope there is more info to come on this mode.

also, they didnt even touch on injuries. how they crippled teams last year at a ridiculous rate. hopefully more information on this as well coming.

all in all, not really impressed.

stuff they added def adds to the game, physics, fighting, hits, and even the tweaked AI etc.

but will it all still play the same when it comes together? like we have seen since 07?

man..

Re: Game Informer 50 Things article on NHL14

As a GM Connected fan, I can't help but be excited about:
EA has added a time period in before the league starts so teams can make trade offers and other roster alterations before stepping on the ice for their first game.

Wish we could find out more about "Other alterations". At the very least allowing trades so we can set our league roster, hopefully this includes buyouts, releasing and retiring players, I'd be very happy with that.

If this includes attribute changes that would actually mean custom rosters for GM Connected!

Re: Game Informer 50 Things article on NHL14

I see nothing about custom season length in GM Connect/BaGM modes. So that makes another year of a wasted franchise mode for me. I may skip 14 and just continue to try and finsish my 82 game seasons in 13. In my second year now... LOL !!! I don't need a new deking system, I like the new fighting engine but I don't think its worth 60 bucks. Waiting to hear more and hoping... 20/42/82 !

Re: Game Informer 50 Things article on NHL14

I like that they say 1st round picks can have higher progression in the first year or two of their careers in BAGM.

It was annoying that you couldn't play with your first round picks for years unless you got a blue chipper.
