I did not see one and figured this would be a great central place to talk about how your scouting and drafting is going in your franchise. We can have updates to your highly touted prospects in your system via OSFM as well as newly drafted prospects and their individual progress in your franchise as well.

Scouting tips can be discussed and are encouraged, as well as player training.

This is a great thread idea! I will be starting my Astros franchise after the osfm roster comes out so I sure will post some things on here.

What is the best strategy for scouting pitchers? I like to look for power arms with good velocity but what do you guys think about control, makeup, and movement? What ratings does makeup affect?

I'm waiting for OSFM rosters to drop before diving head first into an actual franchise.

However, I've done some tinkering with scouting, and I usually try to find at least one LHP with good velocity. Power lefties are hard to come by.

I have had this game since the day it was released. Just took it out of the package yesterday when I heard the rosters were out. I have some questions about scouting and was hoping some people who are familiar with the new system can help me out.

1. Are there penalties/bonuses for scouting outside/in a scouts region?

2. When scouting a pitcher what kind of tool is makeup? Does this mean a pitcher that has this tool will have multiple pitches in their arsenal? Totally lost by this one.

Those are good questions. To add another one, when you select the two attributes (like Contact/Power/Fielding/Speed/Arm), will the scout only focuse on that or will he just look for those guys first?

I assign one player per scout?

Hiring/firing scouts - should I just hire the best available no matter what region?

I have two scouts discover various diff types of players for 3 weeks, while the other 2 scout the newly found prospects. I always have too many players and not enough time to scout them all. I may cut it down to 2 weeks. Then discover more if needed.

I just started my Yankees franchise and will check in a lot with scouting as well as player training results.

Right now I have training set to auto for my major leaguers but I am going to manual train my minor leaguers and developing big leaguers only.

The other training I am doing is to my old players and helping with stamina and durability.

I really love the new training interface and the scouting is far better now.

I notice scouts evaluate the players far quicker. I am having 2 scouts discover and 2 evaluate. I am also keeping a notebook to jot down my draft board.

I do it slightly different, in that, i send all of my scouts out to discover for about the first week of the season. Pitchers for a couple of days, then infielders, then outfielders. Then i have all of them scout as many players as i can all the way up to the draft. Even though some believe it is purely cosmetic (which it may very well be) i try to have the scouts scout players from their specialty region. Lastly, this may be common sense but i don't even bother scouting players 22 or older with low potential and long ETA's. The scouts opinion of these players pretty much never goes up.

In an earlier post I asked about scouting "makeup" pitchers. After some thought, I believe this is the H/9; K/9; BB/9 type of pitcher. Thoughts?

How do you discover and how do you evaluate?

If I assign a player to a scout, how long should I leave him assigned to that scout?

I really don't understand any of the new scouting
