Hoka Hey!: The 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates

So in the off-season they signed Russell Martin to replace Rod Barajas. Who was terrible. Then sign Francisco Liriano to bolster the starting rotation. Only to see him hurt his arm before his physical. So they had to re-sign the inconsistent and oft-injured Jeff Karstens. Sigh. The quest for 21 begins....

Was a nice win for Buccos last nite. Finally got some offense going, I know Arizona is a hitters park was good to see offense show up.

I didn't hear what was wrong with Wandy, but hope he is OK. Can't afford to lose him for too long, already have a few injuries on Pitching staff.

Now just keep it up guys, would like to see them win a few series in a row and get on a nice lil run early in the season

Rodriguez tweaked his hamstring and will be reevaluated today.

Was good to see the Pirates finally get some offense going last night. Like you said DirtySouth, they need to get on a bit of a roll now. Pitching has been solid, just the offense being lethargic is what's holding them back right now.

Nice Sweep of the reds over the weekend, I went to the game on Sunday. Great comeback, and even though they lost yesterday was nice to see them keep fighting and not just pack it in. As resent as a few years ago, an 8-1 early defecit would end up in a huge blowout. Good to see the team not give up.

James McDonald drives me crazy. I see he's still Jeckyll & Hyde. He's either lights out or can't get anyone out. Crazy how he goes from one extreme to another.

Still hopeful for this team this year. May not be World Series team, but I do believe they can compete all year long.

Hoping for a comeback season from Jose Tabata, I tnink an outfield of Marte, McCutcheon, Tabata is still our best defensively. Just need Tabata to get back to form with the bat. Not asking for a .330 hitter, but .270-.280 would be great.

Alvarez seems like he tries too hard when he gets in these slumps. He tries to hit a 5 run homer with every swing, he gets impatient, swings at bad pitches. I know he's a masher, just like to see a lil consistency from him and Walker. Those 2 seem to get hot or cold together. One does well, other does too and vise versa. He is underrated defensively, he impressed me over the weekend series with his defense and his arm. I had season tickets up until last year, and I can def see improvements in his defense

Red Sox fan here stopping by, just curious as to how Brock Holt was for you guys? He seems like he could be a good bench guy. Also is he durable?

Pirates are having a good season so far, been to a few games but it seems people around her still have bad taste in thier mouth from last 2 seasons.

I just luv how people in PGH somehow believe a big payroll= Winning team... I don't know why they can't let that go. No matter what Pirate discussion I get into its always same...."If owner would spend more money, we would be better" I don't know where that theory started, but man everyone seems to believe it.

I'm lovin the pitching staff so far this year, and yeah the lineup is weak in areas but the pitching staff has been great so fart this year.

.500 at long last!. I was in 6th grade the last time the Bucs had a winning season and I'm 32 now. Been one hell of a season. Next up, a postseason berth and hopefully a chance at revenge against the Braves.

I'll admit I gave up on this franchise many times the past 20 years. Including when I started this thread. But seeing them clinch a playoff birth is nothing short of awesome! No longer are the Pirates a joke. No longer are they a laughingstock. Once again the Pittsburgh Pirates are a legitimate Major League Baseball team.

Congrats Bucs fans. I saw the Pirates beat the Mets at PNC back in July. I'll be rooting for you as long as you're not playing the Braves.

Sad to see it end, but it was a fantastic season for the Pirates. Was great to have winning and playoff baseball back in the Burgh after 20 long years. Can't wait for next year. Pitching staff is excellent, they just need to hit better and more consistently.

The Pirates are ditching the snarling Pirate as their main logo in favor of the gold P they use on their caps. The Pirate will remain a secondary logo though.

Pirates Ditch Pirate as Main Logo

The scowling, one-eyed buccaneer with a red bandana and a gold earring is no longer the face of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The team adopted the gold “P” emblem that adorns its hats as its primary logo, replacing the Jolly Roger pirate, the Pirates announced today. It is the first time since the 1930s that a cartoon pirate will not represent the team’s primary logo.

I don't like that but I'm more upset about them ditching the gold spring training (and bp) jerseys.

                            I loved those.
