Help Pick A Team

I have recently picked up Madden, and need help picking a team. I'm not a Madden or NFL expert, but I'm not horrible. I'm playing with the most updated rosters. I would like to play as a team that is a playoff contender, but not one of the obvious best (no Packers or Patriots, etc.). I don't have any natural strengths or weaknesses, so I guess a balanced team would be best. A quick glance has led me to consider maybe the Chiefs or Redskins. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Both seem like solid choices to me. I would say the biggest determining factor is whether or not you want an established QB, Rookie QB, or Draft one. If you want to draft one or develop one the Chiefs are great. One of the best rookie QB's plays for the Skins, and if you want an established QB, but a challenge you could go with a team like the Rams, Bucs, or Bills.

Carolina is a lot of fun. Cam Newton is an animal and the running game is solid. Just need to find some coverage help on d and some WR depth to help out Steve Smith and you'll be back in the post season in no time

I will second the Chiefs. Everyone loves to draft that superstar QB and develop him, and they obviously are in a position to do that. They have the best RB in the game IMO (Charles) and an amazing o-line. Receivers are solid and defense is young and talented.

Before reading your whole post I was going to suggest Chiefs, thinking they did not qualify for you perhaps as playoff ready. I have them in my online CC and am pleasantly surprised so far. As mentioned by w4mvp, they have an overall solid team on both sides of the ball. You should know though that the team is somewhat limited to short-mid pass plays since none of the QBs are good deep, both due to accuracy and throw power, but also because none of the WRs have great speed.

The needs on the team are not exactly a weakness - like maybe they could use a better second MLB or a FS, but its not like Belcher and Kendricks are bad choices (actually both quite young and could be developed). Biggest need is probably TE. Also they pretty much have no starters who are over 30. Oldest players are LG Lilja 30, CB Routt 29, MLB Johnson 29, ??

Ryan Mallett is a good target. 98 thp and only costs a 4th to the Pats.
