Word is....EA Sports to give up exclusive rights to NCAA football games

(They wont let me post link since Im new here, but copy the thread title and paste in any search)

WHOAAAA...while everyone was waiting on the NFL License to go to 2k, whats going to happen with the NCAA License?

Who would you want to get it?
What features would it have to have?

I say we get a jump on the demands so the next game maker clearly knows what the fans hate and what we need to see...

It'd be nice, but i am pretty skeptical. I'll believe it when it actually happens.

Downside is there's no one out there in a position to get a football game to market in time for next season.

Not only that, 2K's attempts at a college football game absolutely sucked!

Agreed. Although I am not sure they are in a financial position to put a team together to develop a college football game which has a much smaller revenue stream than an NFL IP.

Maybe it's just me, I don't think playing with the FCS teams is all that appealing.

If 2k uses All-Pro Football 2k8 as their gameplay support and starts building temp menus and formatting soon, I don't see any reason why they couldn't have a potential game out for next August.

APF 2k8 was a pretty good game hurt because of lack of depth in game modes. Gives that game a dynasty mode and online play and it'd be real solid.

Really? You think it would be that quick to turn that game in to a full fledged NCAA game? I wouldn't get my hopes up.

You can bet EA isnt going to stop making the game, but it opens the market to other publishers who want to get in it.

I am about to graduate from college with a degree in Video Game Design, I went to school strictly to get out and work on sports games, mainly football. I have spent the last 4 years putting together a Game Doc and designing a new physics and A.I. engine to take to EA. If noone else can cater to our needs and or wants, I will get on one of them funding sites and see if I can put it together myself.

Re: Word is....EA Sports to give up exclusive rights to NCAA football games

The hardest part of any game is getting the game action on the field to mimic real life. If they use what they had in 2k8 as their base and made minor tweaks, I'd have no doubt they could put out a serviceable NCAA Football game. Gameplay in All Pro eclipses what EA put out this year. And that game was made 5 years ago. If it didn't have 70 year old former pros and real teams, it would have been a huge seller.

Would it have all perfect uniforms, stadiums, and the college feel? No. But then again, does EA? Does EA have good gameplay? Any sports game is built on a one year cycle. As long as they have something to build off of, it most definitely can be done.

EA has been chasing 2k since 2k5. If 2k wants to build the perfect college football simulation, then it might take a while. But I guarantee an incomplete game by 2k would sell more than the "complete" EA counterpart. People are suckers for the sim-gaming aspect 2k has always achieved.

However, 2k has never had the biggest budgets when it comes to college sports games, but they have also been dying to get into the football market to prepare for the next NFL license. So who knows what they will do.

With 2K likely to stomp on EA's basketball sales, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if 2K or someone else decided to take a shot.

Aren't there already threads on here discussing this?

Why do people still think 2k5 was so great? I played it then and thought it was terrible. There were some cool features but overall Madden 05 blew it away.

I don't think anyone will try to compete with NCAA. Look at the sales. They've dropped off dramatically. At its peak NCAA had over 2.5M sales. Now about 1.0M.

                              http://www.operationsports.com/forum...p?p=2043995609

Is that a customer base that can be recovered? Maybe. But most likely developers are going to look at the overall sales and see little room for profit.
