    Help A Noob Hit

I like this game a lot but the hitting frustrates me. I use Classic batting. Anyone have tips? Do you aim beforehand? Do you leave the left stick alone? I just can't seem to hit, and forget about home runs. Any help is much appreciated.
I just want a hockey and football game where I can spend more time playing my seasons then I spend changing my sliders.

    Practice, Practice, Practice.

I used the analog swing starting off but have switched to the classic to get a better variety of hits. I also never touch the left stick, I just try to time my swing to get the various hits (oppo, pull, power etc.)

Even though the game has a few aids which will help your hitting ( sliders, strike window, batters eye ) I'd suggest turning everything OFF and to set the difficulty higher which seems counter-productive at first but will really help you in the long run.

When I started playing I'd constantly strike out on the default settings even though I was using the aids. Once I turned the aids off and turned AI pitching speed to 100 I would still strike out a lot but got a much better feel for how to anticipate pitches from certain pitchers. If a guy has a wide assortment of pitches (starting pitcher) it's really a challenge to anticipate what he'll throw so you have to watch the pitch a bit longer than expecting a straight heater and swinging early. Now after challenging myself early, I've learned to hit better.

Everyone will play the game differently and different techniques will work for some people but my advice is make it as hard as possible early on to really get a feel for the game, if that makes sense.

Now I can turn a game on to lower settings and absolutely kill the computer to where the game isn't any fun.

I use a slightly modified version of the 50/50 theory sliders in the slider forum .. try them out.

    Good luck and have fun.

Oh yeah, nothing like pitch speed at 100. Makes for a real challenge. Love it.

clarke, the L stick is simply to influence hit type -- groundball, flyball, etc. It's best to leave that alone until you get a hang of the timing and such. As already stated, practice is the only advice, other than to make sure you're using a cam that works for you. I use batter 3, height 5 and zoom 10. I find it gives me the best view of pitches.

I use total control hitting and I love it, but it seems a lot of people don't like it and go back to classic. What about total control does everyone not like?

I think the general consensus is classic offers more hit variety. That was certainly the case a few years back when zone hitting was an option. But I'm not sure it makes much difference now that the game only has timing-only hitting.
