they signed him for a three year contract for 2k11, 2k12, and 2k13.

At this point, I'd be absolutely shocked if Jordan and at least a small collection of classic teams don't become a mainstay of future basketball games.

Clearly, there is a high demand among gamers and basketball fans alike to be able to play with some of their favorite old teams from the past while seeing them perform with the incredible technology we have today.

In fact, I predict that we will soon see other sport games follow this trend. I'd love to play with the Big Hurt or Ryne Sandberg in The Show. We already saw Madden take a small step in this direction with Ultimate Team mode. Although they failed miserably in its implementation, imo. Who doesn't want to play with Dan Marino, Deion Sanders, and the Great Barry Sanders?

I hope you're right. Your logic is sound. I'm glad NBA video game producers finally realized the true potential in actual classic teams. It took over a decade of living through "All-90's" teams, but we got there, and I'm so glad we did.

Other sports games have actually been dabbling in real-deal classic teams for a while now. NFL2K5 and the NHL2K series both had well over 25 classic teams. NFL 2K5 even had a flashback mode where players re-created famous moments in NFL history (that occurred in the ESPN era). Of course, the rights to the players were not purchased, so it was up to the user to enter in the correct names (and I did exactly that). 1991 Lions. 1995 Falcons. 1993 Cowboys. It was all a blast.

I just hope the classic teams have reached a wide enough base to warrant developers maintaining and improving that portion of the game. I've had brief thoughts of wonder, where Michael Jordan's contract would run out with 2K after this year and 2K would subsequently scale back their classic teams. I would be nonplussed to the max if that were the case. I like using current teams, but I like using classics just as much (if not more).

Nothing better than guarding Jordan straight up for 22 seconds and have him make every layup because you run out of intense D lol. I bought 2k12 this year because I don't think they will have all the classic teams forever. If they don't have the best NBA player ever in every 2K though, its going to be a tough buy for me. Iv'e been playing since Lakers vs' Celts Sega. So when 2k11 rolled wit Jordan I was in, so I'm looking forward to the best in-air acrobat ever, forever.

I prefer better online implementation + sliders and better gameplay than legends, so if the money has to go to some concret section of the game I'd prefer online and gameplay.

I was actually able to pressure Jordan into scoring just 20 points on 6-23 shooting last night in a 1989 Knicks vs. Bulls matchup. That might be the first time I've held him below 50% shooting and it felt like ultimate success.

My favorite sports game of all time, MLB 2k7, had classic teams, but they didn't have the right ballpark and they were seriously incorrect. They had an African-American guy on the 1927 Yankees, which would not happen till Elston Howard joined like 30 years later. And none of the names were correct. The 1961 yankees had the most correct player names and it was 2, and all the players were locked from editing.

Good graphics, correct arenas, great gameplay and classic teams are the best features 2k could possibly add to the game. Today`s NBA is not just as fun as yesterday`s. Fact.

I agree with what a lot of you have said. I'm more of a college hoops fan now, but I bought Lakers vs Celtics, Bulls vs Lakers, Bulls vs Blazers, NBA Showdown, and NBA Live 95, 96, 97, and the last one on the old Sega Genesis--Live 98. NBA Live 98 was bittersweet for me because it was the last game video game with "23" for the Bulls.

I was ecstatic when I found that 2K was going to feature Jordan and historic teams for NBA 2K11, and 2K has my money as long as they have MJ and other historic teams in the game. VDusen is right; it's awesome for me to have ended playing as Jordan in the old school graphic days of Sega Genesis where every player had the same shoes and just a number on their jersey, to the great graphics of today. I must admit I haven't even touched a current team because I'm so into the historic ones. And speaking of that, I wish everyone would realize that these historic teams take absolutely NOTHING away from gameplay or online issues as people are prone to think. Online play and gameplay are separate departments from historic team inclusion.

^^ Yeah I played all those old games also. I remember in NBA Live '95 or maybe Live '96 Jordan wasn't actually in the game to start but if you went to "create-a-player" and put some of his info in...it would realize what you were doing and fill in all the correct details. I'm 99% positive it was '95 or '96. Is this ringing a bell to you? Anyways, that's exactly why I said people want to play with their old favorite classics and see them perform with the incredible technology we have today. I'm a video game collector and I love to buy the old games I played as a kid for nostalgia. I bought NBA2k and NBA2k1 for $1 apiece this year because it's been a full decade now since I played those games everyday...and man we have come so far.

I also agree that loading up on classic teams doesn't affect other parts of the games. It's just a matter of player models and some small effort into signature styles/moves. I thought overall, they did a FANTASTIC job this year making all the classic players play and feel accurately. Even guys you wouldn't really think were all that important like Sam Cassell or Toni Kukoc. They are feel great. Add in the fact that they give us so many wonderful editing tools and you got yourself a pure win. I was always upset in 2k11 that the players were locked and you couldn't change, at least, the names of the inaccurate bench players. I just think that 2k12 has come too far and they have already put too much effort into the Classics to just scrap it after two years. Worst case scenario, I wouldn't really mind if they split into two games. Current-Generation NBA2k15 and Classic NBA2k15. I'll buy them both just to support the company......but I'll only be playing the Classic 2k15.

Honestly, last night I played a game with the Celtics in my current-gen offline association, and it was the first time in about 6-8 weeks that I played a solo offline game with anything but a Classic Team. I did one of the associations where I replaced all the teams with the unlocked classic teams (including like 5 Bulls teams) and it's ALL I play. I have a separate association with the 96 Bulls, so in this Classics League I just play with EVERYONE else. Even though I'm frequently playing the Bulls, it really couldn't be anymore fun.

Oh and as for stopping Jordan....like in real life....once he gets the ball you're done. You gotta play tough tough off-ball defense on him and try to get him in foul trouble. I got lucky and the 96 Jordan has been injured for a couple weeks. Still, he was averaging something like 41.0 PPG (12min QTRS) when he went down. Him and Scottie are both almost impossible to stop.....but I love it like that.

Now....if we could just get some more foul call complaints and emotion on the court; I really want to see Rodman get thrown out for head-butting the referee.

Yep, I remember--it was Live '96, '97, and '98. Jordan and a host of other legends were in their, and like you said, just type something in and voila--you had the player.

Oh cool. I actually still have a Super Nintendo and a copy of NBA Live '95 and Live '96. Any chance you can remember some of the other legends that you can create like this?
