    Broken bat

    Hello,

I have at least one broken bat per game.
The CPU doesn't get one that often.

    Is it normal ?
    To me, I think it's a lot !!!

8 games so far, 9 broken bats...

I'm playing a season with the Angels. OSFM rosters with TNK sliders. 9 innings.

And one more thing : why players don't give away baseballs to the audience once the inning is over, after a fly ball for example. Is it forbidden in MLB now ?

    Thanks.

1 a game might be on the low side. Many times during games guys break bats. Sometimes more than one in a at bat I saw that happen before.

Also players always give the balls away after the 3rd out in a inning. Every game I have been to this year at the end of every inning the players always throw the ball into the stands or over the dugout.

Slightly related (I think), has anyone seen a broken bat scenario where you aren't sawed off and the barrel goes flying into the field?

It actually is forbidden for MLB players to throw balls into the stands now... but they do it anyway, and neither umpires nor MLB seem to care.

I managed to break the CPU's bat twice in one AB using Trevor Cahill.

            Re: Broken bat

Actually scratch my last post, I just read the entire rulebook and throwing into the stands intentionally is not illegal at any point, regardless of the number of outs (although it's still a bad idea with runners on base lol).

They must have changed it, because I very distinctly remember reading in a previous year, that the rulebook discouraged fielders from intentionally throwing balls into the stands. I also distinctly remember that there was no penalty at all for the action (other than umpire's discretion), which is why it stood out in my mind.

              Re: Broken bat

There are like three or four broken bats a game. They just don't always go flying into multiple pieces. If you hear enough broken bats, you'll know what they sound like and realize there are many more than this game portrays. Not only that, but a lot of them can fall in or find holes as hits. I still have yet to get my trophy for getting a broken bat single.

This is the only scenario I have ever seen. More than that, I don't think I have ever seen a fair ball after the barrel goes flying. Definitely see that in real life, but in the game my broken bats are always foul.

So, two things I would love to see if possible---
                    1) Fair balls on broken bats with fielders reacting to the barrel if necessary (this may be way too much of a headache for developers, but it would be really cool).

                    2) Broken bats that don't shatter. I'd love to see a scene where my batter swings at pitch and hits way in on the handle or way down on the end, and instead of the normal contact sound, you hear that different sound that typically alerts batters that the bat broke. Then, go from there to a short cut scene of him tapping in on the ground, or inspecting it trying to see if it really is cracked, and then going to get a new one.

Now, as to the original post, I get sawed off by the CPU once or twice per game; and, I've gotten much better about creating broken bats when the CPU is at bat. In this game, it's all about getting the pitch in on the hands...I do most often with cutters in tight and 2SFB, every now and then on a 4 seamer that I just buried in on the batter, but it's a bit harder to get them to bite on a straight fastball that far in.

After the guy got over zealous and died last year trying to catch the ball Hamilton threw in the stands, MLB has strictly prohibited throwing the balls into the stands

I got a ball from Jemile Weeks as he tossed it ten rows deep behind his own dugout in Oakland, so I don't know if it's strictly prohibited, but they probably have to go rows deep with their throws if they do it. What happens when a fan dies from a fall after catching a home run or foul ball in the stands? Are we going to restrict batters from hitting those too?

Anyway, I would also like to see those different kinds of broken bats. Never mind the ones where you also hit it in the sweet spot, but the soft part of it where the bat also breaks. This is where you get those really hard hit balls.

FYI, I have seen fair balls after a broken bat hit. Never reached the first base though.
