Not enough info to be able to help; what type of backs are you trying it with, what formations are you running it out of and what formations are you trying to run outside again?

ive noticed iutside runs that you need to read the outside backer or end and if he goes inside continue outside but if he goes upfield cut it back towards the o-line and it has worked for me

Be sure to adjust your line and maybe motion a receiver in or out or move the TE to the side your running. Madden really makes you adjust your protection this year if you want any kind of success.

I like to block left or right on outside runs, and aggressive on anything up the middle. Just take a peek at the defense run where they aren't and adjust your line accordingly.

I know this sounds crazy but I can't figure out how to shift my line or shift my defense prior to the snap. The manual says to press the R3 button to pull up the options, but when I do that the only options are to select audibles or hide. I've see it before but for some reason I can't figure this out. I'm wondering if I have some kind of setting turned off or something.

I'm a traditionalist. I use the old interface for adjustments because I beleive the Strategy Pad sucks... IF you abandon the default Strategy Pad method and have the "Strategy Pad Quick Links" option set to ON it's much easier to shift and far more intuitive, IMO. So disregard the rest of this message if you choose to continue using the Strategy Pad:

                R1/RB = LB shifting
                L1/LB = D-Line shifting
                Triangle/Y = Coverage adjustments

Also, be sure to turn on the on-screen menus to show you exactly what your options are to remove confusion.

                Hope this helps.

power O works great with the Patriots O-line and Green-Ellis in the backfield. Don't be afraid to run all the way outside, and use GE's strength, power and carrying to your advantage. Rather than try and spin around and juke out defenders, run right through them. That's my basic run game with the Pats.

Counters and pitches are highly susceptible to penetration from whichever gap the pulling linemen leaves. Also, it's VERY HARD to get to the corner without a block on the defensive contain man. For the most part, counters and pitches aren't safe - but the big play potential makes them worth a try periodically...

Against humans, you have to set them up running and throwing to the middle to get the defense to move inside - which makes it much easier to get to the edge.

Against the CPU, watch out for an uncovered defender and be sure to always count the defenders on the side you want to run. If you're even or have numbers, you can get outside as long as your outermost player in the box holds his block long enough for the pulling lineman to get outside.

Lastly, don't stretch the run outside if you don't have to. When I'm least successful running outside it's almost always because I didn't cut it up and go north/south when I should have. Trying to go sideways to avoid one guy usually just gives other guys time to break free of their blocks and taking away any possibility of reversing field before getting to the sideline...

                    Hope this helps,

                      Re: Outside Runs

I have a lot of success in strong/weak I formations when running counters, usually for big runs, talking 80-50 yard runs because my line will block downfield spectacularly.
