    NCAA 12 All-American Slider Set

Hey guys, I am back after a long hiatus from slider editing. This is my second year releasing a public slider set for NCAA. I did the(http://www.operationsports.com/forum...rican-wip.html) slider set after the third patch last year. Since I had a couple requests and I, for one, enjoy NCAA football with a good slider set, I am starting day 1 this year. My goal is to create a nice slider, balanced set for everyone to enjoy.

What I am to achieve with my slider set: I try to make the computer and human player have equal opportunity in most regards, such as tackling, coverage, pass rush, interceptions, and Wr catch. By equal opportunity, I mean that the human player should have the same ability, in those instances mention, to make plays.

What I need help with: Please, post your feedback in the thread on what needs to be tweaked with the base gameplay. There is only so much I can test the first week, and the more feedback I get, the better the first set will be. Once I start releasing actual slider sets, post feedback on those.

What will stay the same: I am keeping the basic options the same as last year. I found 8 minutes to be the best last year for a realistic amount of plays. The sliders will be tweaked for longer quarters, so offensive and defensive numbers match real life. Also, you don't have to use these suggestions, but remember, the slider set is balanced on these settings.

As always, don't blindly accept these sliders (or any for that matter) as the final word. Always make changes that suit your need. Not everyone plays at the same level. Some are worse or better at passing, running, and defense. Remember, the best slider set is always your own!

Rosters: I suggest you use the best roster set available for your console. Go to the roster sub-section and pick the best ones.

Coach Settings: Last year, coach settings were used to counteract aggressive blitzing, and to provide a better representation of a team's style of play. With coaches now being part of the roster, I am taking a wait-and-see approach until including this as part of my slider set. If a good coach settings set is released, I will provide a link to the thread and detailed instructions on how to input the settings.

Re: NCAA 12 All-American Slider Set

I will be tweaking sliders for the first week after release, hoping to get a good base set by the time named rosters are completed. To do this, I need lots of feedback. Please, post your suggestions and observations on the base gameplay, so I can get an idea of what needs to be tweaked. I can only test so much, and a larger sample size is always needed. I will post certain beta sliders that would need feedback too. Once the beta set is good enough, version 1 will be released. Again, any help would be appreciated!

I'm still playing with your '11 sliders and LOVE them, so I'll be checking here a few days after release.

I will also be willing to give feedback with the sliders, as I think AA is the best level to use for gameplay vs. CPU. I did the whole slider editor posting thing myself for one year and realized how much work it is, so I will do my best to help. Can't wait til Tuesday!

Re: NCAA 12 All-American Slider Set

Since I can only do so many test games, here is what would help me the best when the game release:

                  1. Set your options like what I have on the first post (All-American, 8min, etc). Also, use the substitute settings and see if they work.

                  2. Play your game.Try to use variety in your test games. Use good vs. bad. Bad vs. Good. Power run vs. Spread, etc

                  3. Post your stats. I mean all of them. Passing yards, rushing, ints, fumbles, sacks, pancakes, etc. Don't have to post player stats. Be as detailed as possible. Remember to post what teams you used.

                  4. Give a summary of what feels good and bad gameplay wise. What is easy and hard on offense? Same thing on defense? How many penalties and what kind?

Also, general feedback and observations are perfectly acceptable. Do you already have some working slider tweaks? Post them and I will try the out. Just remember to use the right option settings.

I will combine all the feedback with my observations and release a beta set tweaked to balance the gameplay issues. The first week will be a work-in-progress with many beta sets released and getting tested. After I and everyone testing feels the slider set is balanced enough, I will release version 1. After that, it is a matter of finding the perfect balance and retweaking after patches and tuners. Again, thanks in advance for any help you guys provide because it is time consuming to do all this by myself. The more you guys help, the quicker a final version is done!

just curious... are you married to the AA difficulty level? did you play the demo, and did you mess around with the different levels?

i wouldn't blame you for assuming that AA provides the best game, i believe most people do and it is what i have played on for the last 5 years without even sniffing varsity (i think i started with varsity in NCAA 06 and then moved up to AA)

but anyways, I thought that AA proved to be pretty challenging in the demo... to the point where I was constantly thinking "this should be working, but it's not..." i know, i know, small sample size, can't see player ratings, etc. etc., but just the "feel" that i got didn't sit well with me on AA

however i played one game (yes, i know, only one) on varsity and it was balanced, i didn't blow the CPU out, CPU busted a couple big plays but i got more first downs and won 9-3

year to year, out of the box my skill level usually requires me to either turn sliders up on varsity or turn them down on AA, and i eventually do the latter because i turn them down for both HUM/CPU and learn how to deal with it...

please don't get me wrong, i'm not suggesting you shouldn't use AA, but if memory recalls, Playmakers said early on last year that he thought the best game was to be had on the Varsity level, and so i was just wondering if you had given any thought to the difficulty level or just assumed it should be AA...

either way i'm looking forward to what you find!

Really, it is a matter of what you like personally. I know a lot of slider makers swear to heisman, or all-american, or varsity. There are slight differences between the difficulties. If I am correct in my understanding, varsity difficulty has a subtraction to the cpu ratings. All-American no boost to cpu ratings, and heisman has a significant boost to cpu ratings. Another difference is the cpu aggressiveness. On varsity imo, the cpu never really keeps its foot on the gas and play calling is kinda suspect. The aggressiveness and play calling is better on All-American and can be a little too over the top on Heisman, such as going for extremely long field goals.

Last year, I thought All-American provided the best gameplay out of the box, so that is what I decided to tweak. This year, unless gameplay is radically different in the retail version compared to the demo, I am starting from All-American. In the demo, the cpu can play the user tight and can win with even teams. That is what I look for in my starting difficulty. I only won two out of the six games (I get bored with NCAA demos because I want more and hate 2min quarters). For me, that is a good sign. The issues you see in the demo might or might not be in the full game. Again, I can't tell you what is or isn't. However, I like the difficulty that All-American has. If the cpu is too strong, I will lower whatever sliders are causing the issues, but not too much that it is a walk in the park. I go for average stats in my sliders and tweak that with 7-8 min quarters. People can testify that my NCAA 11 slider set was hard, but fair. I think some people, not you specifically, aren't used to losing to the cpu. I lost two games in the first season of my LSU dynasty to Florida, and the Sugar Bowl against Wisconsin. I lost one game the second year in the BCS National Championship against Wisconsin again(Damn their rushing attack!). Last year was the first time I could lose to the CPU on a consistent basis when playing a good opponent.

Back to my main point, the so-called "best" difficulty is a matter of perception. I am used to tweaking for All-American, and I think it is the best difficulty. However, there are many good slider sets for Varsity and Heisman. It's just a matter of tweaking the sliders because every difficulty has its own issues and problems. I hope my response eases your concerns!

I doubt that it will be a long wait, as there is almost no difference in game play versus '11. Maybe more intelligence on zone defense, but other than that...

Just an aside, when is EA going to fix the problem of how time is managed. In real CFB the quarters are 15 minutes, and average between 120 to 140 plays. Instead you have to play 8 or 9 minute quarters, and at best you get 120 plays. Unless EA can provide a statistically accurate game, like the finally did with Madden, I'm afraid there just is not enough of a difference to justify giving up my money. Rant off...

Rant off...
If I had to guess, I would say 2-4 days after release, preferable before or just after named rosters are done. There will be a couple beta versions before version 1.0 is released. As always, the first set is always the hardest.

I hope my response eases your concerns!
thanks for the reply... you were right in your assumption about me, i am DEFINITELY used to losing to the cpu LOL... in fact that's probably the only reason i turned the demo down to varsity, because i kept losing, so it's good to hear that you had a similar experience going 2-4 (and yes, it is only the demo)

after i posted previously, i remembered what you said about the CPU not playing with the same aggressiveness on varsity, and that why is i would rather turn them down a bit on AA instead of jack them up on varsity...

good luck and happy tweaking and i'm still tuning in for the results

p.s. Wisconsin is definitely beastly... i created UW Green Bay for my dynasty so i lost to (read: got smashed by) them on a regular basis, i think i beat them once (maybe twice) in seven tries
