THEE Ohio State University Scandal Thread

    It's from a Yahoo! report:

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...osuprobe030711

Not sure what to make of this. It seems like all of college athletics is being declared dirty at the same time. I don't think any school is innocent.

They need to get rid of the NCAA and replace it with a truely independent group who has real power. Get a group with some real investigation and then start punishing these teams. Start by kicking the players out, no juco or lower option, they are done. Fine the schools real money and if they get so many they are done for 1 year and longer based on number of violations.

It is a voluntary organization, what schools would join the group you just described above?

Reading Mandel's column on this tonight doesn't make it sound good for Tressel/OSU at all. I don't know if anything will come of this, but you can bet it's going to be an interesting next few months in Columbus.

Tressel's shadiness grows. Hopefully that will allow Ohio State Football fans that disagree with Tressel to let their voices heard and not just "LOLZ, TRESSEL IS GODZ!"

It wouldn't have to be a new organization, just kick the people out that are currently running the NCAA. The problem comes from the fact that most of them have strong ties to schools and have held AD or similar roles for schools and conferences.

They also have no set penalties. It is all subjective and differs by schools, which causes a lot of issues. Release a set standard and then schools know the rules and what punishment they receive for breaking them.

Or just stop with these stupid rules. There's no reason why the players shouldn't get anything when the universities make so much money off of football.

Also, a scholarship doesn't count when compared to the amount of money that's pulled in.

Or have players follow the rules. Paying players opens a can that will make college sports more corrupt than they are now.

You have grown *** men giving broke 17-21 year olds money, who in many cases come from families that are broke. Very few people are going to turn that down. The players have been getting paid for an extremely long timel, this isn't anything new. You're never going to get rid of boosters as long as you have a multi-million dollar industry so it's naive to think that this will go away, no matter what the punishments are. If you really want college football to be "pure", start lobbying for those million dollar tv contracts/bowl contracts/whatever else to be abolished.

I get you to an extent. The notion that these guys are poor is a joke. They get checks out of their deal to sign. My best friend went to UC and his check was enough for him to afford an apartment for the last two years there. They get money, just not the money they may like. Rules are also rules no matter how dumb.

You pay them, then you have to pay other sports. Especially those schools that are good in multiple sports. Does one player get paid more that the other because his "likeness" is more popular among jersey sales? Whats the figure they get paid? Where does the money come from? Do they only get paid in season? College kids are dumb. You'll get a bunch of these kids buying crap they don't need and getting themselves into more trouble. And no good thugs have an incentive to actually rob college students because now they have money.

                            No good IMO.

Oh yeah, I know they get some extra stuff from the schools but a lot of the players aren't coming from middle class families and the boosters know that. This stuff has been going on for awhile and it's not going to change so I don't see how college football is going to get more corrupt if the "punishments" were gone. All these things do is hurt the players who had nothing to do with the offense that got the school investigated.
