Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
I have been using the 3-3-5 playbook and i get some good heat, but i never get a sack and i also always get killed by the pass. I am looking for a good defensive playbook that will give me some sacks and a good defensive scheme. I just started a new dynasty with Ohio State.Tags: None -

Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
I think the 4-2-5 is by far the best pressure/sack set. Even with a 4 man rush defenders seem to get off blocks faster, but the main thing is that it has some great blitz packages. Defenders are also closer to the line which means their blitzes take less time to get to the QB.Originally posted by Kaiser Wilhelmthere should not be ties occurring in the NFL except when neither team wins the game.Comment

Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
I always try to use a 4 man front and blitz 1 LB/CB when trying to create pressure rather than 3 man fronts and blitzing the house, idk seems to work good for me"Winning isn't everything, but it beats anything that comes in second."

I'd say the key is calling your own defensive plays and mixing up your blitz packages. My teams: Leeds United, Central Coast Mariners, Denver Broncos, Florida Gators, Florida Marlins, Miami Heat, Brisbane Broncos.

Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
I run the Utah 4-3 base man to man pressure package. It seems go work very well for me. Obviously I don't run exclusively 4-3 I shift to nickel and dime when needed. The core concepts are man to man coverage 90-95% of the time. I run a lot of Cover 1 either blitzing the SS or LB or both. Also I like to switch tendencies on 3rd down, sometimes bring 6 or 7 other times play coverage and only bring 3 or 4.Comment

Good ole fashion 4-3 works for me. Just vary your play calling.Comment

Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
I had a pretty good amount of pressure and I switch between aggressive and balanced dline jump snap. I know that the penalty for aggressive is low so many people just run it all the time, but I actually think it works better to switch back and forth. Screens are far more effective against an aggressive line, and I get alot of sacks on the CPU when they try to run a screen and I have a balanced line because the dline doesn't jump towards the QB and over committ beyond the screen.
I often control a blitzing LB or a D-Lineman and also pull him depending on if the CPU does setup a screen or a short pass, the CPU QB usually delays in throwing and either makes a bad throw to a covered receiver or I get good pressure.
I usually use 4 -3, and then switch to nickle or dime. I don't use 3-3-5 because it seems like it's just not effective at getting pressure or at really defending the pass.
By the end of the season, my two best d-lineman (usually, LE and one of the DTs) will both have between 6 - 10 sacks each. I've had a player as a sack leader almost every season of an 8 season dynasty.Comment

Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
Practice....seriously. You don't need a specific defense to generate sacks. Don't have to blitz either. Just controlling any one of the defensive linemen yourself and you will get sacks.
Even with Army I can get 4 sacks a game without blitzing.Comment

Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
There's lots of techniques. With a good defensive line I routinely get at least a few sacks a game. It seems to me like the CPU is most prone to take coverage sacks, and it's likely to do so when you manage to confuse it with the coverage - so I like to set guys to blitz and then manually control them to drop back into a shallow zone instead, or I'll change around a few defensive assignments with hot routes (just be careful you don't leave someone wide open of course). Every so often you should be able to get the CPU QB to just seem bewildered and hold on to the ball a couple seconds too long.
Mixing up your blitzes will also help, and knowing how to blitz with a defensive lineman (must use the left stick!) or linebacker (off the edge is best) will get you the occasional sack as well.Comment

Is there a special playbook to use. I tried the 4-3 and got no pressure at all.Comment

Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
I've found success generating pressure using one of my DT's, and swimming outside technique to force their OT to block me, shooting my DE or OLB in for a big, dirty sack. It's all about running with a play that you won't get burnmed, but I find a lot of my sacks come from defensively audibling and blitzing certain areas. It just seems like this game picks up the generic playcalls and blitzes easily, when you mix it up on them the CPU actually looks confused.
IE run a play where your OLB is supposed to be on a spy. Audible to blitz, (Hot Route, RStick Down) control your DT or your DE on his side, use the swim to the outside, your LB comes crashing in and usually makes a big play unless it's a run to the opposite side or a quick pass that just makes it.

Lol I still am hardly getting any sacks. I get a little pressure but the qb throws it before a sack.Comment
