    Dragon Age 2

EA Makes Dragon Age 2 Official, BioWare Teases Reveal Tomorrow

BioWare appears to be just a day away from revealing Dragon Age 2, officially, going by the role-playing game developer's Twitter tease. Or was it today, when EA and BioWare officially said that Dragon Age 2 is in development?

The BioWare biofeed wrote earlier today that "2morrow will be a great day for BioWare fans. Just sayin'." Electronic Arts also wrote earlier today, in a press release about Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, that Dragon Age 2 was in development at BioWare, so that's pretty much confirmed.

    See?

Currently announced projects at BioWare include the development of ongoing downloadable content for Mass Effect 2, one of the highest rated video games of all time, Dragon Age 2, the highly anticipated sequel to 2009's "RPG of the Year" Dragon Age: Origins, and the story-driven massively multiplayer online game, Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Of course, Dragon Age 2 isn't much of a surprise, given that EA already blabbed about a sequel to Dragon Age: Origins on the books for the first quarter of 2011. BioWare helped nail down a possible release date of February 1, 2011 with this none-too-subtle teaser included in the retail release of expansion Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening. Oh, and BioWare VP Greg Zeschuk told Joystiq earlier this year that Dragon Age 2 will look "super hot."

To sum up, if you like Dragon Age, show up to the internet tomorrow.

I'm surprised they didn't do more DLC with Dragon Age. It shipped with 2 DLCs, then another you could buy for what, $40 initially (way overpriced). And then finally another DLC. I figured there'd be more micro-stories available, like a dozen or so.

Day one purchase of course. I tracked the development of Dragon Age Origins for 5 years, from its conception to release. Although I still loved the game, the experience was diminished somewhat by my being spoiled about every aspect of the game except a few major plot points.

I won't make that mistake again with DA 2. The information I have already looked at will be all that I know about the game.

Without spoiling what it is, the fundamental changes they are making to the game may cost them a couple hundred thousand die hard old school players, but will probably bring in a million new players. I'm an old school player, but I'm totally down with the new direction.

                    Re: Dragon Age 2

"Dragon Age 2 thrusts players into the role of Hawke, a penniless refugee who rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age. Known to be a survivor of the Blight and the Champion of Kirkwall, the legend around Hawke's rise to power is shrouded in myth and rumor. Featuring an all-new story spanning 10 years, players will help tell that tale by making tough moral choices, gathering the deadliest of allies, amassing fame and fortune, and sealing their place in history. The way you play will write the story of how the world is changed forever."
According to the release you can only play a Human Male/Female. They are taking a more Mass Effect approach to this.

I am a huge fan of Origins, so I hope this isn't turning into a Mass Effect 2 type sequel where they eliminate options to present a better paced story. The one thing that keeps me hooked into Origins was the multiple backgrounds and the customization of making my avatar. Call me old school.

Crap, another game to buy LOVED the first one, still play it from time to time. Finished it once and have about 3 other characters that are near the end. DA2 will be a must buy for me but maybe not on release date because of the backlog of games that I've already got

your not making it sound that great.

I hope EA is not pushing BioWare just to release games.

I have the same thoughts in my mind, not just with EA. 2011 will be seeing some quick sequel turnarounds by companies. AC: Brotherhood comes to mind. With this turnaround maybe a more linear game is needed, and there really is no time for back story.

At any rate, it's too early for me to jump to conclusions on how this game will play. I will just keep my ear to the ground on this one so I want be as shocked as I was with ME2 which I purposely hid myself from. It's still a Dragon Age game, so that makes me happy on its own.

BioWare is large with several teams. Dragon Age 2 was in development during Origins, which was pretty much finished in March 09, but it didn't come out until the fall, because the console versions needed more time. Also, Edge of Reality handle the console versions and not BioWare.
