Power conference job offer?

So there are four classifications for conferences-- small, mid-major, major, and power.

I'm coaching in the MAC right now, which is a mid-major league. Is it possible to get an offer from one of the "big six" conferences before a major school? Is it just random, or are there a certain amount of legacy points needed for a power conference program to offer you a job?

If I'm going to leave my current school, I'd really like to leave for the Pac-10 or Big 12... not the C-USA, Mountain West or A-10 (the three "major" conferences in the game).

I went from a mid major to Penn St. From there I went to UNC.

To get power conference job offers your overall grade needs to be B+ or higher. To get major conference job offers your overall grade needs to be B- or higher. Yes you can take a power conference job before a major, what matters is your overall grade, as long as it is at B+ or higher then you can even make the jump from small to power.

It all depends on the coach rating. Hence you should try to maximise your skill point allocation by trying to tick as many of the legacy achievement boxes as possible.

THEN, you need some luck.

Think about teams with well established coaches who are nearing retirement. With luck these jobs will open up and the game, rather than promote assistants, will make an offer on the best coach available. If you play your cards right you could be that top coach.

I managed to coach at Western Michigan for 3 seasons. I stayed on the 3rd season to watch my all-american JR C flourish and led the team to a final four berth. This game me multiple coaching points to allocate and I managed to luck out when Syracuse offered me a job.

Never looked back.

Re: Power conference job offer?

Yes u can. I started out with UNF after like 2 seasons moved to Boise state for like 4 or 5 seasons ( had to really turn that program around) then with the right coaching grade I saw 2 power programs ( Wisconsin and the Irish) offer me a chance. I had a few majors ( don't remember which ones) offer me a job too. I took on the badgers ( Wisconsin) job in year 7 of my legacy. My advice to u ( like most of the folks here also mentioned) is to get the maximum amount of coaching points and get a grade of "B+" or higher and be ready to leave the program u built up. I still check on some of my old prospects to see how they are doing from time to time. On another note, I for one hope 2k picks this franchise back up. This game is too deep and fun to just put down. I play it more than the NBA franchise. Good luck and enjoy the game like the rest of us on here.

Re: Power conference job offer?

In my legacy, I hope to advance through the conference levels (small -> mid-major -> major -> power), and then go backwards (power -> major -> mid-major -> small) because I want to fulfill all the coaching achievements before retiring at a small school (i.e. ideally the same school that I initially coached in my legacy).

After coaching for a major or power school, do job offers from small schools still come to you?

I would test this out:
  1. Start an open legacy, get a job at Duke or somewhere.
  2. Set your coaching attributes to Bs or As across the board.
  3. Sim to the end of year 2 (where you can start looking at job offers)
  4. Decline the power conference jobs and see if jobs after the first 5-10 get offered to you
I think that should help you answer.

That was helpful!

After simulating year 1 of an open legacy with a power school that finished slightly above .500 win percentage, I received job offers from all conference levels (power, major, mid-major, and small).
