Prospects: Owned!

I have been wanting to create a thread like this for some time now. For those who do not know, I have been a Major League Scout since 2006 and have a fairly adequate playing background to know what I am talking about.

Every year we are blessed with 50 rounds of future possibilities and one reliable baseball title for the PS3. The in-depth Franchise Mode allows us to build our minors by editing and creating players. For me this is why I play the game. I know there are countless roster perfectionists out there and my sole purpose is to add to the enjoyment of this game.

I am going to treat this thread like a notebook that anyone can add information to at anytime for player editing purposes.

I hope this thread garners a positive response from the community, so without further ado...

Re: Prospects: Owned!

Jared Mitchell, OF Chicago White Sox (Potential B)

CF, but may eventually move to LF
Leadoff man

Plus-plus speed

patient hitter = good discipline, ability to draw walks, however he takes hittable pitches in order to try and get into hitters counts.

Range - covers the field almost perfectly

Arm - only below average tool

My Scouting Report

Speed - 70
Bat - 55 now, 60 future projection
Power - 55 "
Arm - 50
Fielding - 70

Side note: Mitchell is in the mold of Carl Crawford.

*these statistics are based on the traditional 20-80 scouting scale. I generally rate my player based on my scouting report.

Re: Prospects: Owned!

I don't know why I am on a White Sox kick right now, but I have some input that I want to share.

Jordan Danks, OF Chicago White Sox (Potential B)

* I like Danks as a solid #2 hitter in the CHW lineup as soon as this season. He never developed the power he was supposed to, but I am convinced he will provide an average of 10-15 homers and may top 20 with enough experience at the MLB level.

Report:

Speed - 55
Arm - 55
Bat - 55
Power - 50
Fielding - 60

Re: Prospects: Owned!

Trayce Thompson, OF Chicago White Sox (Potential B, possible A)

* Trayce is an absolute beast! I got to see him quite frequently as he is in my area. This kid has all the potential in the world and the tools to make him a high-risk/high-reward superstar.

Current CF, but may move to RF in the future.

Arm - above average

Speed - "

Range - covers a lot of ground

Base running - raw and needs to work on getting better jumps.

Power - this kid hits the ball a looooong way! 30 HR + when fully developed.

Report: future projection on Thompson because of his age.

Arm - 60
Speed - 55
Bat - 55 now, 60 future projection
Power - 55 now, 65 future projection
Fielding - 55

Re: Prospects: Owned!

Tyler Matzek, SP (LHP) Colorado Rockies (Potential A)

* I didn't want to praise Matzek here because I was in denial pretty much all season, but after seeing him in the CIF tournament I changed my mind. Matzek showed me a FB with movement that sat at anywhere from 88-94 while touching 96, 97 and 98, not to mention plus secondary pitches. After all the hype and all the showcase baseball that I saw him at, I was finally convinced. Fellow scouts have been quoted as saying that Matzek is the best LHP to come out of Southern California since Cole Hamels, but with much better stuff!

Report:

Fastball Velocity - 65, I want to give him a 70
Fastball Movement - 60
Curveball - 55 now, future 60+
Slider - 55 now, future 60+
Changeup - 40 now, 55 when develops a better pitch
Control - 60
Command - 60

*Evaluation: Future frontline starter. 94 MPH Fastball + with good (55) movement. Plus curveball and slider. Future average changeup.

Re: Prospects: Owned!

I noticed that my future projections play out nicely once a couple seasons are simulated. My reports are also future projections, not current attributes. In fact, most of my attributes are quite lower to start with, but based on potential and the ratings given the players develop nicely with some tweaking.

Re: Prospects: Owned!

Thanks a lot, I plan on revealing my formula that coincides with my ratings soon as well.

You have to remember, these are future potential grades. You have to sim a season or two to get an idea of where to start in order to get the final numbers you want.

Jordan Danks basically turns into a Brandon Inge with less power. The transformation is pretty nice!
