New to OS, but old school 2K player thinking of going to Live....

    Hey all,

I figured I would post here because it seems all the die hard sports fan are in this website/forum.

I have been a huge, HUGE NBA 2K fan for years.

This year though, I think I may be jumping ship.

I downloaded the Live demo on PS3 (my HD on the 360 was down to nothing, so I downloaded 2K on there and Live on PS3.)

The thing is, I have noticed how Live has been creeping up overall in gameplay compared to 2K over the years. And eventually I was scared Live would surpass 2K.

This is the year that I think 2K might be second best.

The demo 2K came out with, honestly, sucks. I mean, it is the same thing and I don't notice much improvement. Which, there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

But there is just something about Live this year that just seems like it surpasses 2K. I think Live finally made that leap over 2K in my opinion.

I usually don't do much online for NBA, as I like working on my franchise. But I was kind of impressed (and at the same time, un-impressed) with the 5 on 5 feature 2K had last year. It just turned out pretty damn buggy.

I have no idea how Live has been online over the years, but I plan to ball online this year when I am not working on my Franchise season.

It feels weird being a 2K fan over the years, and now I am thinking of jumping over to Live based on the demo. Live just seems so much more complete.

The gameplay on 2K I have always liked, using the R analog stick to shoot. I don't know how I will get used to the new style of play if I jump to Live this year.

I am just looking for feedback I guess. I love Soccer and NBA more then any other sports.

I am just wondering, any kind of feedback on how I am feeling here, any 2K fans wanna jump in if they are jumping over to the "other" side and let me know what they are thinking? Any Live fans wanna let me know what they are thinking?

I am not looking for flame wars nor fanboyism, but this year, it just seems like the NBA ball'n scene is as close in competition as it has EVER been.

Also, I know 2K has always seemed to have the "better" online league setup's and what not. How does Live compare in this area? Again, I have not played Live in years, so I am not familiar with the online setup.

Truly, thank you for taking the time to read this and provide any input on this.

I'm jumping to Live as well...I can't put my finger on it but by the time the 2k demo came out I had played the Live demo at least 10 times...I played one game of the 2k demo and all I wanted to do was load up the Live demo again and play...

I thought about making a thread like this to ask what are the features and aspects of the full game that we didn't see in the demo? What are the things that Live has been doing for years that us 2k fans would know nothing about?

I am with you guys....I like the feel of the Live Demo a lot more...The thing for me though is the Association/Dynasty Mode.....Everything I've read on this board is that Live's Franchise mode is tottally whack!!!

The Association mode in 2K this year just looks off the chain....
        Contol all 30 teams,
        restricted FA's, Midlevel
        D-Leauge,
keeps stats for every NBA Season ever,
        2K share draft class
Simulated Stats are a ton better and will be near perfect with sliders/tendencies
Tracks individual career stats by each season..keeps track of all star appearances, all nba...yadyadayada

If NBA Live has a good SIM Engine and it tracks all the players stats throughout their career they will get my money.

Re: New to OS, but old school 2K player thinking of going to Live....

I'm leaning to Live this year and I've been 2K since 2K5. Man has Live stepped up. These are the things pulling me towards Live over 2K this year...

          -Dynamic DNA

-The "authenticness" (That definetly isn't a word, lol) of the game. By that I mean all the jerseys, the shoes, the accessories, all that stuff.

-The dynamic crowd sounds. Vince Carter getting booed every time he touches the ball at the ACC is so awesome and real nice attention to detail.

-The new shooting control. This is probably one of the biggest things that has me just about sold on this game. It felt so good in the hangar to take D-Wade and, as I'm moving the L stick to the left, have him take that hop step fadeaway shot. Being able to choose what hand you finish with, what type of shot you take and all of this done by just pressing the X button (360) and moving the L stick. It feels more natural and more precise than the shot stick on 2K.

-The playbooks. The playbooks are just amazing, being able to run a true to life NBA offense and the playbooks matching each team like the Lakers running the triangle.

-Icon passing receiver control. This is a little thing but it's something I find myself wishing 2K had when I play their demo. I'm sure alot of people won't use this or notice it but I use it on alot of my possessions. This is something I see playing a big part if you use it in a close game on the final shot of the game or something like that.

-Quickstrike dribbling system. Really awesome to control the exact moves you want to do and have pretty much full control over it. Plus being able to make up your own go to moves like how Da_Czar was showing in his Live 10 Czarisode is cool.

-Footplanting. Being able to move a guy to the 3 point line and not have him take any unnecessary steps to step over the line or out of bounds is really nice. The footplanting also adds nice realism to the game and affects playing defense in a realistic way because if a guy gets you to commit to one side and then he goes to the other side, it is very hard to try and recover and he has you beat almost every time, just like real life basketball.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head but yeah, Live is really pushing me this year. I keep thinking 2K because of the familiarity with it but at the same time I can't deny the quality of Live and the things it does better. I have NO idea which one I'm getting but like I said, I'm kinda thinking Live. But tomorrow I'll probably be thinking 2K and the next day Live and so on and so on, lol.

That would be awesome if the franchise mode was really good, but it doesn't matter for me. Live has made 2k unplayable.

I don't tend to play more than one season so as long as the sim stats are pretty good for one season I'm sold...

Im going with live this year myself..as a long time hardcore 2k player as i was...live10 has brought in a fresh product that not only looks good but plays well too. Oh and i love the crowd animations this year..brings a exciting feel to the game, the little presentation touches does wonders imho

Your comparing a a 750mb live demo to a 450mb 2k demo. I wonder why live looks more appealing. 2k demos have been gettin smaller and smaller each year with basic elements of gameplay taken out. Like callin a timeout. Its obvious they wanted the draft combine to be the tru representation of a demo.

I dont understand why they cant throw out a 10min demo with the 5 on 5 gameplay features there. They cant be scared of people playing the demo all the time over the regular game using the same two teams all the time.

The Live demo looks so cartoonish and the gameplay is average. It is definitely better than last year but still not as good as 2k gameplay. 2k didnt make any huge leaps but it still outshines Live by a little bit. I do love the Live ball handling controls. That is way better than 2k, but thats about it for me. I am going witl 2k this year. My player mode is hot!!

alot of people including me are switching to live. it's simple to:

if you want a true basketball simulation which mimics reality NBA live 10 is the closest on the market.

if you want eye candy, cherry on top gameplay that makes every play look like a slam dunk contest you have 2k. it looks so pretty that people would rather slide into windmill jams than play real basketball.

live has innovation in 2010 and 2k has none. live has innovated the one on one game the passing game the playbook the ratings the defensive game the off ball game. did I miss anything?

and last year the game wasn't even playable. I don't know how mike Wang creates simulation basketball the way he does but rest assured you are playing something great coming from him.

you know what's scary? he had only less than a years time to go from filth to majestic. imagine NBA live 11 just imagine

MJJ you sum up my thoughts and feelings about this exactly. I have noticed that more and more people attribute smoother animations to realism, but that isn't always the case. Especially in this great debate. I would much rather have some "robotic" animations and realistic floor spacing, ball movement, foot planting, and realistic 12 Minute Quarter stats, than silky smooth animations, where players are sliding around getting into the paint at will. That's just me though.

                            Beautiful.

I think that about sums up the entire Live vs 2K debate.

That sums it up for some people at least...

While I like that the D can stay in front of you in Live, I dont like that it requires a crossover eveytime to get by them everytime, its just not realistic to me...Kobe should just be able to get past Steve Nash w\o a killer cross....Doing a cross over with Pietrus to get to the basket just wasnt fulfulling at all for me lol

The game still has that generic aspect to it that it had last year to me (on the floor at least) Alot of the same animations over and over....collision detection is cool...but when your stopping in the middle of your drive move to initiate the same collision animation all the time, it gets old very quickly. Also, for gamer like me....stats at the end of the game arent nearly as important as how much I enjoyed the game while getting there..

All that being said, the game isnt bad...I have it as well as 2k. 2ks getting all my time so far though......and I dont forsee a switch...

                              To each his own
