So just curious how those people who liked or loved head coach are feeling about Madden 10. Are you enjoying it? Anyone have the game long enough to do anything in Franchise?

Re: Head Coach v Madden
I'm liking the game so far. But I don't think it's in the same class as HC. I think it's a very good step in the right direction for the Madden Franchise mode though. Have only played a couple games as the Cheifs so far, so still too early to tell a lot though. -

My gripes about current madden vs HC09, after being spoiled with HC, madden 10 seems tedious in all the same aspects."... you did not want to draft JaMarcus Russell. He is a great player. Get over it ..."

Re: Head Coach v Madden
I'm through my first season with Madden 10. Definite improvement to Madden but still it's no where close to the initial experience I had with HC9. The verdict is: As of right now I would trade my Madden 10 for an updated HC9. Headcoach was much much deeper, better interface (a more active interface) and a way more addicting offseason experience. All in all the NFL experience of HC is way more realistic and thrilling compared to Madden.
It's kinda sad when I think of all the hard work the HC team put into both games the past couple years. HC, the one left to die, is the one you'll miss.
Instead of bringing the HC designers back to rebuild Madden, I think it might have paid off to go the other way around. Rebuild Madden into Headcoach.
It's still only day 2 for me. Let's see how much deeper this year's madden goes...Comment

Totally agree, HC's depth and the way negotiations are presented, etc. make M10 feel like a step backwards, it couldnt have been that hard to bring into 10?"... you did not want to draft JaMarcus Russell. He is a great player. Get over it ..."

Re: Head Coach v Madden
I only rent EA games now, but I did rent M10. I have to futz with the settings alot, but for the first time in Madden history I am playing 15 minute quarters and getting believable box scores in alot of areas. The key is flexibility and there is some in this years version. The sliders and other AI manipulation tools work pretty darn good. Even though I am playing 15 minute quarters, it isn't tedious and they do a good job of cutting through the bull between each play. The number of plays per team is pretty close, though not perfect at times.
The pro-tak stuff works well and adds a more graphical realism. Also, there is an end of week newscast style recap that is pretty well done, would have loved to have that in HC. It isnt all roses though, contract and off-season stuff works better in HC obviously. I don't know how long it will hold my interst, but it is good for a Madden game. Ultimately, I love the way HC does things and I would be still playing it except for the long list of bugs and problems that simply kill long-term enjoyment for me.
The saddest, most heart wrenching part of HC is that if they allowed you to mod it, it could easily be fixed (at least the worst problems toned down). I suppose the suits at EASports still live in the 90s when modding was looked down upon. They can't possibly see how modding could make them money, so we are stuck with a broken game.Last edited by swatter555; 08-17-2009, 12:27 AM.Comment

I thought most of the problems in HC09 were fixed via patching? I'm debating buying the game, so if it's really still broken that would be a major problem.Xbox Live Name: TheGiftOfAnger

Re: Head Coach v Madden
It's very playable and very enjoyable in its post-patch form.
Is it perfect? Oh no. For example, if you want a dominant running game, be prepared for disappointment. I'm still trying to make one, even after months of playing and years of many very good draft choices. (It's getting better. Slowly.)
But if you wanted to ever be a GM/coach, it honestly puts Madden's franchise mode to shame. I may not get Madden 10 'til Christmas, and I may not care - I have that much left to explore in HC09.Comment

Re: Head Coach v Madden
I don't mind having to work for years in game to reach the pinnacle. Honestly, if I start with a bottom 10 team, I want to have to put five years of work into the game before I see the rewards.
I'm just wanting to know if there are any bugs remaining in the game that I should be aware of. As long as there are functional work arounds I'm not too worried though.Xbox Live Name: TheGiftOfAnger

Re: Head Coach v Madden
Through one year, I haven't seen anything strange. Go to the slider forums and get a good set of sliders if you are going to watch the games. I have had some dominating efforts running the ball with the Cowboys, as well as a few games where I was not that good. Particularly against the likes of the Steelers.Comment

Re: Head Coach v Madden
This is a good thread and I figured one would pop up on the subject.
HC09 is the most addictive game I've ever played...I played daily from release with the Madden 09 CE in August through January...it's brilliant, warts and all. I thought Madden 09 was a 7 at best and sat in the tin while I wore HC out.
But Madden 10 is a very impressive effort. So far, I am really enjoying it. I'm on week 4 of my first 'chise and actually having fun, and looking forward to playing more. <----THIS has not happened with any Madden game for me before!
It's still not perfect, but with the powerful sliders in the game, you can REALLY tweak it to make a great game, and I'm playing 15 min qtrs and getting great games.
I have not done off-season yet, but I'm prepared that it will not be like HC, because it's not like HC during the week, either. But for on-field play, just 'playing Madden', it's really good this year.
HC is not going anywhere, though. Hell, I may buy a spare copy just to make certain I'll always have one in case they don't make another.
So IMO:
HC09 is a 9.5
Madden 10 is a 8.5 (that's a SOLID score, and this is a very good game of Madden)GO 'HAWKS!
