MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Didn't see such thread so hey....

I've been drafted by the Padres and these guys give me NO support whatsoever. It's crazy playing the game this way. Not having control over anyone but your guy can be frustrating like if you're playing for real. I'm in spring training right now and one in game goal I had was to get a ground out. I throw a perfect pitch and the batter bites and swings. Double play ball in the making, hooray for.... WHAT!?!? Error on the 3rd baseman. Supposedly the ball took a funny hop on him. Yeah right, that guy has been stinking it up on 3rd base the whole spring training.

The crazy thing is sure you have to do all the little things that are required for that position. Run to back up throws, cover bases, everything. This is definitely a well fleshed out mode. I haven't won a game yet but my last outing was my strongest. Gave up 2 hits in 5 or 6 innings of work and no runs. I was stinking it up though the first few outings. I was hitting my spots good and doing the do.

It's crazy hearing your name of the public address system too. I actually laughed when I heard it. Like I was "official" LOL. I'm going to assume I have to actually make the team. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

If anyone else is trying this mode how's it going for you?

Man spring training didn't go so well. They gave me 62,000 to play for the San Antonio Missions AA ball. And I'm not even a starting pitcher. Got me coming in doing relief work.

Playing SS for the Pads. Through 10 games, im hitting .275, HR, 4 RBIs, 2 2b, and am 2-3 in SB attempts. So far, a pretty solid spring. I can't wait until the real season starts

So you think you'll make the squad? They dissed me hard.

Did they improve the loading time? That was one of the most frustrating things about being a batter in RTTS.

I don't think you can make the team out of ST..at least I never did in any other games. They want you to start out at AA and work from there..they don't want you to play at MLB level your whole career.

Well I don't know what it was before but it isn't that bad. It isn't instant but it isn't forever. About the same time as a regular game to me.

I doubt I make it now. About 2 more games to go and am now hitting .222, HR, 7 RBI, 6 2B, 3B, and am 4-6 in SB. I agree that it is almost impossible to make the club out of ST. I am not looking foward to hitting at PETCO

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Well I went through the Spring 1-2 with a 5.94 ERA. Got offered 2 years 62,000 in AA ball with the Brewers. I countered with 1 year 32,250. I'm the long releif in AA. First game I go 2.1 give up three runs on 3 hits (no HR though) ugh. I like the aggressive way the CPU runs the bases, just wish my fielders would be that aggressive with the throws.

I'm a 6'2" 225 lbs righty with a 4-seam, Change and a Slurve. Kinda like real life. I'm enjoying being a pitcher. I've always been a position guy but. This should hold me off till Knights minor rosters are done and I can get Matt Weiters to Baltimore.

Tell me about it. It's the fact that I can't spot my pitches yet. I go to throw a change-up low and out side and it will end up on the middle in belt high...crack into the gap. But I am having a great time though!

I will defiantly be working on my control with my training as best I can. It's like the scouts say. I don't miss many bats.

LMAO! I feel you man. Fielding really screwed alot of my chances. I'd get guys to hit into very playable ground balls and these guys would blow it constantly. I swear the AA guys field better than the "Pros" did in spring training.

I'm going to get a few more games in today and see how it goes. My control has been getting better and I've been training like they want me to so hopefully I'll get a chance to start or maybe even close. Anything but this relief garbage I hate my baseball life. lol But love the game.

EDIT: The thing that really adds to the game is all the little things you gotta do after the pitch. Running to first, backing up a throw, just the little real things that you don't even think about when playing the regular way with this game.
