I've had the same frustration. There's not much you can do about the OL cutting your defenders, but if you do happen to draft a premier pass rushing DE, you can see the difference immediately. There are three DE that I have drafted in different careers that have just been monsters in the pass rush. There aren't many of them, but when you find one it really boosts the rush your line generates. You have to have a dominant pass rushing end to get a decent push with a four man rush in my experience. It's not always in the overall rating either, speed counts a lot in rushing the QB it seems. If you have a guy with a quick enough burst, he can get by the OL before they can engage him and the cut thing happens. they will still get caught at times, but you can get a realistic amount of pass rush. Players names in spoiler if you want them.
Speed kills on the D-line. Good coaches help as well. I also seem to get the best results from moving my best rusher to the LE position. I generally concentrate a lot of coaching points towards my DL so that might be helping me as well. Also practice pressuring the QB every chance I get.
Anyway, that's what works for me. Hope it helps you.
