The King of Gameplay and Ruler of the Online Domain

Few sports games last more than a year.

The ones that do live past that expectancy rate (Tecmo Super Bowl, MVP Baseball 2005, NFL 2K5, et al.) survive because they have something unique about them -- something that no other sports game on the market can offer.

Aside from its stellar gameplay, in-depth customization and balanced team-building system, the one thing that has allowed All-Pro Football 2K8 to maintain its position as the game of choice for many die-hard football fans is the strong community that has formed around its online leagues.

Yes! This is the best football game as far as gameplay goes, period. There is also a league which originated right here on the OS forums called the "Armchair QB's". We conducted a fantasy draft with extra CAP legends. It has been a blast so far!

All Pro Football is the first sports game I've ever played that actually has the back and forth struggle that real sports have. All phases of the game must be covered and the game feels more than anything... alive.

Man I wish 2K still made NFL games. I've decided to go back to 2K5 with roster addons, and although there's no true HD, the gameplay makes the tradeoff worth it and more.

I always wanted to play in a league on All-Pro 2k's game but, do you have to pay, is it a rough learning curve? I am a decent player although he made mention of those league's longevity. Could i keep up with guys who have plenty of games in and good stick skills.

I sorta wish I would've gotten into this game when it was first released. If I tried to go back to it now, the aged graphics would bother me.

AP2k8 destroys Madden in terms of gameplay....I bought Madden this year and gave it a fair chance, but it got traded in this week.Still playing AP2k8.

The aged graphics from last year?

I'm glad to see the 2K8 love. I played through two seasons and had a blast before going back to ESPN NFL 2K5. 2K8 has better graphics and a few nice touches, but I'm just not into doing a bunch of extra work to play Franchise mode. Here's to hoping that All Pro 2K10 is quietly being worked on for next summer.

It still looks better than Madden 09. Players on the sidelines are the real deal and step up on big runs. There are stadium effects. The player models look better. The animation of the player models is better. Lets not even compare gameplay.

There are still some elements that are too strong and some that are too weak but overall it is the best most addictive football game I have ever played.

This game, more than any other is EXTREMELY addictive due to the team combos. NFL 2k series was already addictive for it's practice mode, however APF takes it to another level when you can move players around.

The shear possible teams, formations and Generic/Coaching (I still think the generic assignments has an affect on the legends as well) assignments are limitless and are only bound by your imagination.

There are still some areas of the game that are weak and could have made WAY more of the players and formations alot more usefull which really would have sent people into insanity trying them all out, but the amount of developement they were able to acheive is remarkable.

Great article! This is the most underrated sports game ever. It is good to see that this game is finally getting some love outside of the APF Forum. It's amazing that a game that wasn't developed for a very long time is still the king of football on next-gen systems.
