Promoting assistant coach to head coach?

I'm trying to replace Popovich with Mitch Johnson but apparently this is not possible because you can't edit the coaching staff this year for some reason. Why would they take this out? Makes no sense. Anyone know a workaround?

Edit: I can actually promote Johnson after firing Popovich but then i get a warning popup saying i have an incomplete staff but there's no way to hire assistant coaches this year. So now I'm just stuck on the mystaff screen and can't even back out. This is ridiculous.

I agree that this is a weird change for this year's game. I find it especially unusual that assistant head coach is a mandatory staff position, but you're given no control over who your team hires for that spot.

I hope they give us the control back in 2K26.

You can use a workaround. I did this to fire Mike Malone and Taylor Jenkins and replace them with the assistants.

1. Fire Coach
2. Hire Assistant Coach to replace the Coach
3. Select Newly Hired Coach and select "unassign a bonus staff"
4. Select Coach and select "Assign a bonus staff", you can do this step twice to get back to 5 bonus staff members.


You should be able to exit the menu with the Assistant Coach as a the Head Coach

Yeah that worked. I guess you're stuck with the generic assistant coach they assign, or is there a workaround for that too? Either way...thanks bro, i appreciate it.

I've uninstalled NBA 2K25 but is it not possible to just edit his vitals in this game? If not you could do so (including his cyberface) via Cheat Engine.
