Armor & Sword's Clean Screen Classic/Directional MLB The Show 25 Sliders

Armor & Sword's MLB 25 The Show Clean Screen Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

Welcome to our slider thread!! I am looking forward to a great year of baseball gaming and look forward to sharing our settings and sliders with you.

I am sure most of you know how we roll here. We play with a totally clean screen and utilize Classic Pitching and Directional/Timed hitting. We tune our sliders to be used exclusively with those batting and pitching interfaces in addition to 100% auto fielding/auto throwing/auto baserunning.

    Why?

We are old....and old school LOL. We love to hit and pitch while we let player ratings handle the defense. We also will manual steal bags but auto baserunning I discovered on MLB 23 and 24 is also great and allows baserunning ratings to shine.

We do employ 30 team control and we will have a section all about how we employ that. We also have an injury matrix we use throughout the season if certain events and conditions are met to employ that matrix.

And yes we play a totally clean screen. No meters, no strike zone, no no no. Just pure baseball without any hand holding.

I will have the game at midnight 3/14/25 and start streaming all our test franchise games throughout the next few weeks on our twitch channel. That link is in my signature.

3/14 all day Friday and all night into the weekend we will be playing a lot of matchups around the league to break in the game.

I ask only a few things in our thread here.

    1. Be courteous, be excellent to each other.

    2. Do not bring in patch gripes, game gripes into the thread. Keep that in the general forum.

    3. Play a bunch of games and get yourself a sample size (25 games can give you a general idea of how they play) before messing around with sliders.

I don't expect the sliders to be too difficult to develop. The Show is easily the best OOTB game and not a lot needs too much messing around with (typically). I am starting the testing using HOF hitting and Legend Pitching.

Settings, sliders and our 30 team manifesto are forthcoming.

I look forward to seeing all you peeps on Twitch!

    Baseball is back!!!!!

    Armor & Sword's 30 Control Team Approach

    Spoiler
    Armors Gameplay Tips

    Armor's Directional Hitting Approach

It is all situational for me. So many factors depending on the type of hitter, counts, situation, score etc etc.

First off as far as swing types and counts:

    Normal Swing:

    0-0, 1-0, 2-0, 3-1, 2-2, 3-2

    Contact swing

0-2, 1-2, - spoil pitches, make contact in pitchers counts, stay alive!!!

2-2, 3-2 - Situational - with weaker hitters to make contact and move runners or sacrifice fly.

Power Swing only with my very best power hitters when I typically have no one on with no outs or no one on with 2 outs.

    0-0, 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 (green light) 3-1 counts.

    Directional strategy:

I position the LS pre pitch and hold throughout the swing however as you know I do not use the visual aide showing the influence (don't need it).

Dead Pull Contact Hitters if the situation calls for a pull

LS at the 9 o'clock for RH 3 o'clock for left handers

    Hitters counts only 0-0, 1-0, 2-0, 3-1

Pull Power Hitters with normal swing

    LS position

10-11 o'clock positions for RH hitters

    1-2 o'clock for LH hitters

    Hitters counts only 0-0, 1-0, 2-0, 3-1

Opposite field strategy for RH hitters so I can hit behind the runner...early in counts and hitter counts (0-0, 1-0, 2-0 or 3-1) LS is at 3'clock for LH hitters at 9 o'clock

If I get into a pitchers count or neutral count (0-1, 0-2, 1-1, 2-2, 3-2) I do not use stick influence but I allow the ball to travel deep so I can either slap it the other way or fight it off.

When I simply want to induce a sac fly or ground ball....LS in 12 o'clock or 6 o'clock respectively in hitters counts only.

So I think you can see my approach. In hitters counts I can be far more selective with my pitches and use the LS influence. Basically depending on what I want to do I am looking for one pitch in one spot on 0-0, 1-0, 2-0, 3-1 counts (I rarely green light on 3-0 unless I am up big or down big or have a gut feeling). When I am in pitchers counts or neutral accounts I am simply using my normal or contact swing with no stick influence as I am in battle mode and trying to work the count.

I hope that gives you a good idea of my approach at the dish.
    Classic Pitching Approach

So Classic Pitching is such a sublime experience and with it comes a lot of nuance. First of all pitcher confidence plays a huge role in how well you are going to throw all your pitches, so make sure when you see he is going good on a few pitches you take advantage of that. Setting up hitters is also critical. Also don't be afraid to walk guys in certain situations.

Warm up your relievers with the 8 pitch warm up.......huge. This build confidence with all your pitches if you warm up throwing strikes.

As far as the "Art of Classic" here are some pro tips:

How long you hold the button matters. It affects pitch speed, command, and the amount of break on breaking pitches. It just isn't 'push a button and go'...there is far more subtlety in it. In fact, if you simply tap the button, it is an excellent way to get shelled".

When pitching in classic, you have about a 1 second time period before you get the controller vibration (i.e. max-effort). The following are my observations...

Max effort pitches (holding the button down till the vibration) result in the following:

    More velocity

    Less control

A sharper break on breaking pitches

    Pitches tend to rise more

Minimum effort pitches (tapping the button) results in the following:

    Less velocity

    Better control

    "Loopier" breaking balls (especially curves/sliders

Pitches sink more (due to lower velo) - changeups will pretty constantly wind up in the dirt

In many cases, an "intermediate" duration is optimal. However, you can vary this from pitch to pitch (i.e. like a pitcher adding/subtracting from the speed of the pitch). This is a tremendous way to keep hitters off-balance to help to avoid them getting solid contact/timing.

This is just a basic overview...I'm sure there are more subtleties involved.
    Dowies Wind Modifier System

A very simply random number check when you get to the 5th innings. Use random.org and generate a number between 1-10 and use the table below:

1-3 Move Wind Slider to 2

    4-7 Stays at 5

    8-10 Move to 10

If it is a rain game move wind slider and throwing errors for both HUM/CPU up +1. Then do a Wind check in the top of the 5th and if it is raining the modifier will be in addition to the rain mod of +1 (so if the number comes up 1 2 or 3 and it is a rain game your wind slider goes from 6 down to 3 keeping that +1 for the rain, if it was not a rain game the wind slider would go down to two for the same result).
The Slider +/- Card System is back!!!!

So here is a really cool card system. It's very easy. Before each game shuffle a deck of playing cards and draw three cards anyway you want. Use the chart to apply the modifications to your slider set for that game. This adds a total "Strat-O-Matic layer to the game!!!!

So for example...you shuffle your deck of cards and draw in order:

    The 8 of clubs,
    Ace of spades and
    Jack of spades

    What does that mean?

Look at the chart.....8 of clubs means the card you drew second is now worth 2X the value so what does the Ace of Spades do on it's own? +1 contact to the CPU...well now it's +2 to contact for the CPU (huh oh). Jack of spades is +1 to OF errors. So wow some serious variables here.

I do this before every regular season game. I do not use this card system in the post season.

One modifier I do use to start games is if it is a rain game we +1 to all errors and +1 to wind and then we do the 5th inning "Dowies Wind Modifier" check.

Enjoy these exciting and fun dice roll elements!!! Purely optional.

2025 Yankees Year 1 News Wire

Yankees Hopeful For A Return To The World Series

Coming off a sour finish to their 2024 season in losing to the DOdgers in the Fall Classic the NY Yankees made a bold move. First Brian Cashman was fired as President and GM of baseball operations and 55 Year Old Michael Sword was hired to take over the reigns of the front office as the Yankees new President and GM of baseball operations. Sword comes in with a wealth of experience in the Yankees minor league system as a former player, coach, scout and manager. He is well respected throughout the organization and Hal Steinbrenner felt it was time for a new direction.

Juan Soto decided to set sail to Flushing from the Bronx. Rumors were rampant that he demanded a family suite at Yankees Stadium and Sword refused. Also sharing the spotlight with Yankees captain Aaron Judge was also thought to weigh his decision to leave. So off to work Sword went and the Yankees began the reboot. We had a chance to talk with Michael Sword and ask him some questions on the projected lineup, some free agents they singed and prospects for the future.

Thank you for taking some time today Michael.....so losing Juan Soto after such a dynamic season, hitting in front of Aaron, going to the World Series for the first time since 2009, how has the team taken this defection in free agency? Have you had a chance to talk with Aaron Boone and some of your leaders in the clubhouse? -
The team is great, we are very positive and enthusiastic about the upcoming season. Losing a talent like Juan of course is never easy, but we have more than enough talent here to pick up the slack. Bringing in Belli and the continued development of Austin (Wells), Tony (Volpe) and having a veteran like Goldy is going to be great. We are gonna be ok. Aaron (Boone) is very positive about leading the team again as well as Judge.....he is our captain and set's the tone for everything. You may want to ask him what he thinks of our prospects this season (laughs).

Let's talk about the additions you made in the winter meetings and right before the season here -
    -
First and foremost adding Cody Bellinger is exciting. Here we have a fantastic athlete who not only can hit balls all over the place but his defensive is going to help us tremendously in CF. We are really happy to have Belli and we expect a great year. Paul Goldschmidt is a por's pro. This guy flat out carries himself with the utmost class and confidence and will be a great influence on the younger guys in how you gotta prepare day in day out to not only survive the grind, but win baseball games and play consistently. This also allows us to keep Ben down on the farm to develop more and get a lot more AB's. We are excited about Ben (Rice). Volpe is going to take the next step this season we believe. He has so much talent, great energy and another kid who was born to be a Yankee. DJ has had a crazy good off-season and feels the best he has had in 2 years. We can see him having a big comeback season at 2nd base for us. And of course Jazz is Jazz. He is such a tremendous talent and being around both Aarons and Goldy...he is seeing what winning is all about and being locked in day in day out. As far as our pitching....Max is a true gem. We feel we signed the best starting pitcher in free agency and really look forward to seeing him team up with Gerrit this season. Luis Gil can only improve coming off that great season he had and we feel great about Carlos and Clarke and then we have Stro to spot start and hold down our long relief spot. In the pen we added a couple of great veeran arms in Joe Kelly and Brooks Raley, but our trade to bring in Devin is gonna be the game changer. He is a legit front line closer and we want him a Yankee for a long time.

One more question....how do you feel about Jasson Dominguez at this point and can you see moving him for another piece? -
Well I had a chance to sit down with Jasson and talked about long term goals. What kind of player does he want to be, where does he see his career trajectory and what is he going to do to make that a reality. I liked what I heard, but as an organization we have high expectations for him this season as we made a big commitment to him early on and now it's time to see the dividends. So time will tell how this evolves.

Yankees (7-7) off to a .500 start thru 14 games as Boone figures out his lineup

Manager Aaron Boone has a couple of things to figure out

The Yankees have had an up and down start to the 2025 season but there is a lot of positives to take away. Aaron Judge is off to an MVP start hitting .268 with 6 HR 12 R 9 RBI, Devin Williams looks dominant as the new Yankees closer, Austin Wells looks like a different hitter thus far hitting .302 early on and smoking balls everywhere. However slow starts are also causing some growing pains to the campaign as Jasson Dominguez looks over matched. Also Cody Bellinger is still adjusting to being in pinstripes but his last 6-7 games the barrells have been plentiful but simply finding leather. Volpe has also started to come on here of late and Boone is not worried about him. DJ Lemahieu is looking healthy and hitting the ball hard with a .289 average and playing gold glove caliber defense at 2B.

The Bombers are in the midst of closing out a 3 game interleague series vs the Giants and have the rubber match later tonight (live on twitch) as they look to take 2/3 before the struggling Royals come to New York for a 3 game set. Then it's off on the road as the Yankees go to Tampa (4 game set) and Cleveland (3 game series). Then it's back home for Toronto and then on the road at Baltimore to finish off April and that is when we will have our next franchise report with stats and standings!

Yankees Take The Rubber Match Over The Giants/Cole Shuts Down The Struggling Royals/Yankees Make A Big Trade

Oswaldo Cabrera walked off a thrilling Yankees series clinching win in the bottom of the 10th Sunday over the Giants. The final score was 4-3 and allowed the Yankees to climb one game above .500 for the first time this season (8-7). Giancarlo Stanton was the top Yankee hitter in this thriller going 3/4 with 2 RBI. Austin Wells also chipped in an RBI single as well as "DJ" Jazz Chisholm Jr.

The Yankees then welcomed the struggling K.C. Royals who limped into Yankee Stadium with a 4-12 record. Ace Gerrit Cole would take the bump and deliver a signature outing going 9 complete innings and shutting out the hapless Royals.

    9IP 5H 0ER 0BB 9K

He was dealing from the word go. Bobby Witt Jr had a day off but will return for the next 2 games.

In the meantime the Yankees bats were fire. 1 thru 9 all got on the stat sheet with 6 Yankees having multi hit games! Cody would hit a 2R belli bombs to get things started, Goldy would add a 3R HR as well, and Judge would rip a signature laser solo shot to RC.

    Jazz - 2-5 R RBI
    Bellinger - 1-5 R HR 2 RBI
    Judge - 4-5 2R HR RBI
    Stanton - 2-4 R
    Goldy - 1-4 R HR 3RBI
    Volpe - 2-4
    McCann - 1-4
    Cabrea - 2-4
    Peraza - 2-4 R

The Yankees have been waiting for a breakout offensive performance and it finally came together.

After the game President and GM Michael Sword announced a pretty interesting trade that the team consummated with the soon to be Las Vegas Athletics (or soon to be Aces if the rumors of a total rebrand are true coming in the 2026 season when their new state of the art park on the Las Vegas Strip is completed).

"Today we traded OF Jasson Dominguez to the Athletics for 1B/C Tyler Soderstrom, 3B Tommy "Tanks" White and 3B/UTI Gio Urshela"

"We want to wish Jasson the very best on his continued career and he is a very talented player. However we felt he would be better served with a change of scenery and we are very excited to get two young players in return and a proven veteran utility player that adds a lot of depth to our bench".

"Gio has a history here in NY and is excited to back. Tyler will go right to AAA in the International League on our Storm Chasers affiliate. He will get plenty of opportunities in the near future. While I know it is hard to be sent down initially we feel our coaches can work with Tyler to hone his craft even more and set him up for success very soon. We expect Tyler to be a big part of our future. As for Tommy we gave him a promotion to our AA affiliate The Naturals in the Texas League. Tommy showed what he was all about at LSU. He was born to be a Yankee and we look forward to watching him develop and eventually be a part of our rich history".

The Yankees continue their series with the Royals and then head out on the road vs the Rays and Guardians. We will be back with another Yankees Year 1 report after the Cleveland series concludes to be followed by a full April report after our April 30th game vs Baltimore which will have standings, stats and injuries and trades around the league.

Yankees Look to Snap 4 Game Swoon as They Welcome The Padres

The Yankees are in the midst of their longest losing streak in this young 2025 campaign. The Pesky Rays came in and swept the Bombers in New York after the Yankees were able to take 3 of 4 in Tampa. This sudden reversal of fortune has the Yankees looking up at the Red Sox, Orioles and Rays again in the standings sitting at 17-17.

Manager Aaron Boone is confident they will turn it around vs the Friars and then when they head to the Athletics on the road.

"Losing Belli stung but he is on the mend and should be back for either the last game of this series vs the Padres or the start of our west coast swing vs the A's". Bellinger strained his hamstring near the end of the 1st game vs the Rays. He was placed on the 10 Day IL.

Looking forward to your impressions. I just read the interview and saw where they claim to have improved bullpen logic and pitch counts. I’m anxious to see it. If they have fixed that, after so many years, then I will purchase. If the bullpen still requires work arounds and separate slider sets, it’s going to be another pass for me. If they aren’t going to improve the graphics, they can at least fix the things we complain about the most. I hope this game is great!

We updated the rister after our first game last night....lol.

Quick in game menus and settings menus have received some updates which I need to get used to.

Our test franchise stream will begin in 5 minutes!

Right now we are testing our MLB 24 sliders with the following exceptions:

Starter and reliever stamina for both CPU and HUM are default 5 as well as manager hook at default 5.

Everything else is exactly the same as 24.

              HOF Hitting and Legend Pitching.

              That is our starting point.

Anyone figure out how use ambush with directional hitting? It is not giving me an option.

                      Slider Update.

                      I am testing HOF/HOF

After 10 test games on legend pitching (two times thru a rotation) it was unforgiving this year compared to 24 on classic pitching, no ball marker.

                      I was getting hammered regularly.

I am tweaking some pitching sliders on HOF as I continue to test.

I want V1 to be extremely solid and not have to tweak again if possible. I appreciate the patience everyone has exhibited thus far only 2 days into early access. I have been playing thru the wee hours.....

We will also post our full impressions of the game after I have played thru some more franchise, try out RTTS, Moments etc. I want to take it all in before I give a full review.

Quick hot take is....without a doubt it's the best looking and playing baseball game we have every gotten from SDS.

The updates to presentation elements cannot be overstated. The immersion they bring to guys who play every game.....it's awesome. The league feels alive now as you grind thru 162.

                      Back soon!!!

Thanks. Too bad about ambush. It would seem easy to add for directional.

I concur that the classic pitching is unforgiving. I am trying to figure out how to pitch again because I am getting hammered too...lol. I am using Legend pitching and it is definitely harder than last year. I wish we had a little more guidance from SDS on what they tweaked because it is ratings based.

The game is beautiful and the presentations are excellent and just scratching the surface.

This is what I did when I fired it up, and it's been playing pretty well. Only issue I've seen so far is a lack of errors, and I might have to bump the pitch speed down to 6 because I'm having a tough time catching up to even mid 90s fastballs at the moment. Could be rust though

                            Version 1 is now live!!!!

OP has been updated to reflect my V1 HOF/HOF sliders.

As always trust the settings, play a ton of games before looking to tweak....sample size in baseball is critical.

I am going to also post a revamped 30 team control section in the coming day or two.

I am absolutely in love with MLB 25 and my full thoughts will be posted tomorrow as well.

Also the all new Yankees News Center is now live. On post #2 I am committed to bring you all the stories, news and notes from not only our brand new 2025 Yankees Franchise but also soon Jim Meyers full 93 man 1985 Yankees multi year franchise. I am very excited to be back writing stories for you all to immerse you into our Yankees Universe.

                            Have fun.....BASEBALL IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now you have me wanting to buy ‘25 as it sounds like the gameplay is better than ‘24. Are you using the OOTB rosters for your franchise instead of an opening day roster dropped by someone?
