Is it possible for a DE NOT to win the Heisman in an online dynasty?

In year 3 of our online dynasty and a DE is about to win the Heisman for the 3rd straight year.

I even deliberately started putting up cheese stats to try to see if my QB could overtake but it doesn't look like it's gonna work.

A DE with 28 sacks and 38 TFL's is favored to win the Heisman over a QB on the #1 team with 8,000+ yards and 90+ total TDs

I don’t play ODs so I don’t have cheesy DEs, but in my 14 years of my offline dynasty, a QB has won the Heisman every single season (never one of mine).

I also don't play online, but in my current dynasty (in year 11) a defensive player has won the Heisman 4 times. I had 2 DEs win, a RDT who was DT2 on a four man line, and an OLB who was RRDE and ROLB. These four had ridiculous sack stats. I am playing All-American which is more realistic sack-wise than Varsity (and I assume Freshman). Are you playing Heisman?

only in season 3, I haven't seen a DE win the Heisman(It's been QBs), but my DE won Defensive Player of the year, Lombardi, and best DE of the year in the first 2 seasons of my Fresno state dynasty(offline), with 2nd place in each of those my other DE and my DT in top 10 for Lombardi.

from what I can tell, user teams DE or DL in general get much more 'tackle for loss' than the Simmed stats and it seems to weight pretty heavy on the awards.

The issue isn’t about the DE being overpowered in voting. The issue is QBs are underpowered in voting. I won the Heisman with several RBs and WRs, so one year I started to throw the ball around more and even though one of my receivers had great stats, my QB was by far better than his competition. Then once I got to Heisman time, the WR won it anyway. QBs have to throw like 3 or less INTs in a season or they won’t get it.

Now that I moved to a different school, it’s the first time I’ve seen a DE win it (from my school), but he had an insane year. They need to tweak the award winners and especially the all-Americans since you have guys winning awards but not making the all-American teams.

I play on all American. My team gets too many sacks, but I play lots of guys.
My auto subs on the DL are 97/93.
I also have different guys playing LE/DT1/DT2/RE than my RLE/RDT1/RDT2/RRE, so my sacks get spread around.

Below are the leading sackers per season in my 14 year dynasty. And while I have had 2 DTs get a ridiculous 20+ sacks, neither of them were even Heisman finalists, let alone Heisman winners.

As I wrote above, all 14 of my Heisman winners were QBs. Below are the last 2 winners, and you can see that they both had more than 3 interceptions (the Texas dude threw 9 picks en route to winning the Heisman).

And on an unrelated note, I never knew the aOSU Heisman winners was a transfer from Texas State. That’s pretty cool for him to come from a Group of 6 school where he had a mediocre at best JR season, to winning the starting QB job for the Hairless Nuts and then win the Heisman.

Interesting. Maybe it’s that my WR stats were too good compared to the competition. It’s definitely a weird system overall between awards and All-American selection.

That is interesting because QBs have won the Heisman in my current dynasty. I am in week 10 of year 11 and four of the top five on the Heisman watch list are QBs. I will absolutely agree with you regarding low interceptions. The front runner for the Heisman in my current dynasty season is Deon Waiters from LSU who is 200-257 for 2843 yards with 38 TDs and 4 Ints (216.4 rating). #2 is Frank Dear from Cal who is 185-262 for 2393 yards with 31 TDs and 4 Ints (183.3 rating).

Re: Is it possible for a DE NOT to win the Heisman in an online dynasty?

ok, first 3 seasons, QBs won Heisman, including 2 different Clemson QBs

year 4, my DE came out of no where to win the Heisman. was not on any preview until the conference Championship week when he showed up as the top finalist. 26 solo tackles, 33 assists. 31 tackles for loss, 16 sacks. 1 forced fumble, what is even weirder, he didn't have a good game in the Conference championship. 1 solo tackle, 4 assist, 1 TFL, no sacks.

It has to be the TFL stats, as my DL seem to get a high number of TFLs.
National Sack leader had 21 sacks, but only 5 TFL? do sacks not count as a TFL?
don't think anyone not on my team had over 10 TFL. where I had 5 players at or over 10: 31, 21, 14, 13, 10

Yep, those TFLs are weighed much too heavily. I've heard that it was addressed in a patch, so Dynasties that started later don't see the affects as much.

In our 32-man Online Dynasty, we've had to attempt to address it with sliders. The first 4 seasons it was a DE that won it, but after more adjustments, we finally had 4 offensive finalists and a user QB win it in season 5.

FWIW, my current dynasty was started 12/20, after the Patch that came out on 12/10.

It is an Offline Dynasty, so not sure if that makes a difference.

Yeah, back to the initial issue then, TFLs being weighed much too heavily for a 'mostly' offensive award.

I'm at the end of Year 4, and all 4 Heisman winners have been QBs (Jalen Milroe, Sawyer Robinson, Dante Moore, LeNorris Sellers). All 20 Finalists in 4 seasons have been QBs too.

The Heisman voting is one of several cheesy parts of the game that don't really ruin the experience (for me, anyway), but hopefully will improve in successive years. I had my DE win it for the first time in 2035, though that was more a problem with the game as opposed to the voting. He had like 20+ sacks and some fumble recoveries, so it was "deserved". Most of those were because my team was dominant and opposing QB's behave weirdly at the end of games when trying to force the ball downfield. They either chuck the ball out of bounds irrationally early (to stop the clock), or start running around, where my CPU-controlled DE would inevitably nail him for like 2 or 3 sacks every game.
