MLB the show needs a new graphics engine.

It’s safe to say MLB the show while not a bad looking game is probably the worst looking compared to all the other major sports games. Nba2k, Madden, FC and NHL all look better. The most glaring thing is the low textures on the players and field. During the batting view the grass and dirt looks very low textured. The shadows are rendered in way lower resolution as well. The jump from ps2 to ps3 was huge and the jump from ps3 to ps4 was also pretty big, but from ps4 to ps5 not much at all. I believe the game engine is starting to show its age. One of the things it does well is HDR and I’ll give them that.

PS5 + HDR + OLED is great but yes a new engine is needed.

      Agree 1000%.

for Pro's , the faces look amazing.

But like you mentioned, field textures are terrible. Along with jersey physics, player builds, and the 2d buildings in the backgrounds of stadiums

They have essentially been just optimizing a a graphics that engine that was built for the OG ps4 launch.

Hopefully we can get the rest of the game to match the advancements they have made with the player faces but it probably doesn't help the case when I see a large amount of people in here mention that "gameplay is king" and they don't care about graphics.

There was a good discussion about the graphics here: https://forums.operationsports.com/f...on-thread.html. The thread got off topic at times, but the overall content is pretty solid with some great ideas.

Nah, in reality the "gameplay is king" faction from this little corner of the internet have far less influence than you would think. Whatever direction The Show is headed is squarely on Sony not OS, in my opinion.

Also I don’t think “gameplay is king” crowd is against the advancements in graphics. It’s more so that they don’t want the gameplay to suffer because of new graphical advancements being added.

I also think the player graphics are fine, but the models and customization feature need a huge overhaul. The field needs to match the graphic improvements that were made to the stadiums and the lighting. If they cleaned up those two things, I think it would show a huge difference in how the game looks.

When you look at the player’s faces and arms while batting you can see how low texture their skins are. It’s literally the same textures you see on the ps4 version. Even during night games you see how insanely dark the crowds in the bleachers look. I hate to say it but they need to stop making this game for the older hardware and only make it on the ps5 and series x. They focused more on making the game 4k while leaving all the graphical settings on low.

If they could just overhaul the grass and dirt textures I think that would go a very long way toward making this game look current gen. I don't play many other sports games but I played a trial of CFB25 and I was shocked by how realistic the grass looks in that game. And then I go back to The Show and its like they're playing on a flat green carpet. I'd also love to see them do something to make jerseys look less stiff and clay-like. They added hair sim in 24, cloth sim can't be far behind.

I'm still playing mlbts 23. I was still playing high heat 02 until this game came along because I play exclusively manage mode and no other game had that. I passed up better graphics to keep that game.

I use press box view and perhaps because I don't have a close up view is why I don't see any glaring issues with graphics. If they could get a new graphics engine and transfer the current animations and gameplay it would be great. Gameplay has room for improvement in manage mode but this is the best baseball game I've played - and I still have micro league baseball on a floppy disc.

We need Elon Musk or Bill Gates to develop an interest in baseball video games.

Microsoft bought the rights to the High Heat baseball series back in 2003, so after over 20 years, I think its safe to say that Bill Gates/Microsoft has no interest in developing a baseball video game.

Could we change weather in High Heat? They might've been playing the long game here.

If they ever decide to put money into anything baseball related, I would rather they buy one of the less fortunate (in terms if money/funds) less fortunate baseball teams. Like the A's, Rays, Pirates, or better yet, an expansion franchise.

With the PS5 pro right around the corner I wonder if they’ll have some better graphical features for the pro in next year’s version. Maybe the grass can finally look like grass.

I’ve been waiting for a significant update since ps3 mate. Don’t hold your breath! The game doesn’t look bad (besides the awful grass) and player models, but it’s nowhere where it should be.
