Is the CPU pass accuracy slider broken?

I have conducted several experiments and even at 0 the CPU does not put a single pass astray and the pass accuracy is 100%. Is this slider broken?

It’s always been pretty broken. I’m sure since 23 it’s been more robotic because this new dev team is dedicated to making everything arcade and robotic, but even pre-23 the CPU rarely missed passes at 0/100.

Yea, the majority of NHL sliders work at least to some degree, but this is one that never seems to have much effect.

One thing you can do to slow down the CPU's ping-pong passing especially in the offensive zone (which I assume is the issue here) is turn pass reception ease way down and turn up puck speed reception effect. Hard passes can bounce off sticks or the player might have to take longer to fully control it - both of which will slow down the CPU's passing. It won't make it less accurate, but it will be easier to into lanes and interrupt plays - plus it's just more realistic IMO.

I don't go into the slider threads enough anymore to know if anyone takes this approach, but it's pretty easy to adjust this to preference in practice mode. Just do team practice and select 2 or more offensive players with no defense, and pass the puck around a lot, especially with full power on those passes. You probably won't see any difference with just the human reception ease slider, but once you start moving the speed reception effect slider up on the human side you'll start seeing the imperfect pass receptions (especially if you've left passing speed at default). Setting the CPU's sliders will cause the same effect to it - though you'll have to either put them on offense or play a regular game to see it.

What you describe is exactly what I did to counter this deficiency.

But like you say, It’s a bit of Snake oil and it doesn’t quite address the issue, instead disrupting the flow of the game in an unnatural way.

I also think that reducing the pass accuracy to 0 makes the CPU want to retain the puck more instead of passing. It’s almost as if they know they’ve had the passing skill reduced intentionally and hence choose not to pass at all to avoid the mistake. Which, again, is an unnatural tweak of the flow. So what I have ended up doing is leaving the CPU pass accuracy slider to 40. That way, at least it looks like Hockey rather than some sort of deke skill competition.

It’s a real shame that this is broken because IMO this is by far the slider which makes the biggest impact to the CPU strength.

I play on the legacy broadcast camera and having those ping-pong passes complete at 100% rate puts me at a considerable disadvantage. Especially as my passes only complete at 60% - 70% which feels natural.

          Hey All,

Just wanted to add my two cents... After 10s of thousands of games(NHL 24) and working with other slider builders on this forum 1 thing is 100% certain..

Most sliders work only in conjunction with other sliders.

So in all the tests that have been conducted(1000s of games) you CANNOT just adjust 1 slider without adjusting others to achieve your results..

I can help you with your issue - adjust the PASS RECEPTION EASE slider for CPU that should help you out quite a bit.

I do also have a suggestion for sliders to try.

These sliders worked just fine in 24 and Im betting that you can plug and play in 25

PK did a crap ton of testing also and I will not use anyone else's sliders...There is a catch in that these were designed for POSITION LOCK so that the CPU AI can actually work correctly. Its not perfect but is 100% better then switching to every players. Trust me your AI players will do what they need to if YOU play your position correctly.

Let me know what you think.
