Can your coordinators be hired away from you to coach another school?

One of my favorite things to do in ‘14 was to track the HC progress of my former coordinators (my proteges). Seeing them win conference championships and/or make the playoffs was an amazing feeling. I had a separate tab for it in my spreadsheet and everything to track them. I have a tab for that in my ‘25 spreadsheet too, but I’ve never had a coordinator leave without me firing him.

In my latest season, my OC won the Broyles Award and I checked every available job offer and he wasn’t considered for any openings and he never left my team. I’ve been thru 15 offseasons in different dynasties without anyone ever hiring my coordinator. I’m guessing it’s simply not possible. Maybe EA felt casual gamers wouldn’t like to lose their coordinators as it was out of their control or something.

Anywho, has anyone seen one of their coordinators get hired away from them and/or know a way to cause it to happen (ideally without firing them first since who knows if they’ll get a new job)?

Yes and you aren't given any type of notification about it either.

I went back to my save @ CCG week and fired both of my coordinators and advanced. My Broyles award winning OC was offered 2 OC jobs (MSU and Duke) and my DC (finished 2nd for Broyles) was offered 3 DC jobs (Oklahoma, Nebraska, Ole Miss). Sadly they weren’t offered any HC gigs.

I reverted again and didn’t fire anyone and once again, they received 0 offers. That’s proof enough to me that they can’t be hired if they’re still on my staff. I guess my workaround (which’ll only work if they’re ever offered HC jobs rather than only coordinator jobs) would be to:

• save @ CCG week
• fire both coordinators if I think they’re worthy of moving up
• advance to see if either get any HC jobs
• if not, revert save and then continue with them still on my staff
• if one or both get an offer, revert save, fire the necessary one(s) again, hire new coordinators and continue with the dynasty

It’s far from ideal (hate the idea of “firing” guys who are awesome at their jobs), but if it works to get them HC jobs so I can track their progress, it’d be worth it to me.

IIRC, there are two "Staff" buttons during hte Coaching Carousel stage. One on Hire Staff and the other is something like Staff Moves. I always check the Hire Staff button to see if I need to hire a coordinator or two.



Interestingly, I think they fixed a bug in the first patch regarding Staff and player ratings. My first OC ran the Air Raid and my #2 RB was an awesome receiver. He was hired away and the best OC I had ran a Multiple. My #2 (82 overall) dropped down to my #5 (68 overall). I have not had anything drastic like that happen since and I applied a patch before I reached the end of the next season and I haven't seen it since. Maybe some minor changes, but nothing dramatic.

I had my OC hired away from Boise State during my CFP playoff run. I’m only in season 2 of that one right now.

Didn't see any of mine leave for another school but my OC left for the NFL

What was your coordinators’ prestige? My guys are Bs. Did they ever win the Broyles? Did they get HC gigs?

I don't recall offhand but it was my 3rd season and my SMU Dynasty has never won more than 9 games so they couldn't have been higher than B/B+

I had a level 50 coordinator just disappear off my staff after 1 season. He was not listed in the Staff Moves list; he was just gone.

Got hired on, had a great season and both the OC and DC moved on without me knowing (and seeing this thread). Ended up having a good recruiting class that year.

The replacements I got were to two pipelines that didn't fit what I wanted (recruiting also dipped quite a bit) and so at the end of the season I fired both of them (one even won the Broyles award) and both got head coaching jobs and I hired an OC and DC who had pipelines that I wanted.

I had a coordinator just disappear from my team and off the face of the earth. I checked all the coaching carousel lines and he was nowhere to be found. I wish the game would have notified me that this happened, though, because the game just auto-hired some other guy and I had no input.

I don't care, this is far from my biggest issue with the game, but some of the oversights in the game are just odd.

What I plan to do is save before firing stage.
Advance and fire them.
Advance and see if they get offered a HC job.
Revert to previous save.
If someone wasn’t offered, I’ll keep him. If he was offered, guess I’ll fire him and let him get hired as an HC.

I am 10 years into my dynasty. I lost my OC three years in a row. One time, I was actually glad because my offense wasn't as good (I hired a pro-style OC because of his rating, but I think it didn't mesh with my HC philosophy). I also lost my DC twice in 5 years. I have been a perennial playoff team. I think most of the time the coordinators were rated at least a B+. It's fun to keep up with where they go. I actually usually try to schedule a regular season game against them. The first one I had leave for a HC job got the Alabama job after 3 years at his gig.
