Has EA Mentioned Anything About the Number Lock on Generated Prospects?

I saw on the stream today that you can edit the fake players names and equipment. Which is a major win. But we don’t have the ability to change numbers. I find it incredibly odd that we can change names but not numbers. The guy had a freshman center wearing #16. That’s baffling to me. At certain schools some numbers are special. Like #1 at Florida and Michigan, #18 at LSU, and #38 at ole Miss.

They have to fix this right????

Think about how dumb things will look 5-6 years down the road in dynasty with just random numbers handed out. What happens when you bring in a freshman QB and there are no numbers 1-19 available? Your QB going to be 55? Random numbers means you’ll end up with a RB #98…. That would be INCREDIBLY bad.

Story from us on OS based on this topic

Agreed. I mentioned in the other thread but EA got it backwards. If they have to limit this for the reasons discussed on this board, then they should allow number editing but remove name editing. The names in NTE’s vid looked fine.

I honestly hope they patch in a change. Remove name editing and allow number editing.

I don’t think EA Sports themselves has said anything one way or another about the restrictions around editing jersey numbers.

Hopefully we can gather enough voices and direct them at the right people as to either obtain an explanation as to why this isn’t allowed or so that EA Sports can expedite removing these restrictions post-launch.

Yeah now seeing confirmations today in video form about what can be edited makes the number aspect on fake recruits seem just like an odd oversight considering you can change names.

The faces not being altered I get since how they generate them is on the back-end (and they look a lot better anyway). What I will do is probably put up a specific quick story on just the numbers today or tomorrow.

Hopefully we can try to get someone at EA to give some answers/clarification as to why it was set up like this and if/when will it be fixed. As I said in the other thread, real players that transfer and don't have the ability to keep the same number have it automatically changed, (Isiah Bond in the NTE video) so in my mind it should just be unlocked for everyone. Names faces etc makes sense but dudes change jersey numbers all the time

One thing for sure, ea is purposely avoiding the topic at this point to avoid any sales impact.

I think this thread being started is a good start. Just need to get some more attention and to the right people.

Look, if EA can't even get jersey numbers right, do you think they'll get ratings right? Or reasonable height/weight? They didn't get these right in NCAA 14, from my perspective. But I could edit those. For Dynasty, I have almost no faith that these CPU-generate recruits will be acceptable to me. I'm sure others will see this too. Maybe I'm in the deep minority here, but it sucks.

It's like your favorite restaurant closes for 11 years, then announces a re-opening, only for you to learn that your favorite dish isn't on the new menu. I'm bummed that we're even negotiating here to swap name editing for numbers. Geez Louise, it should all be editable for CPU players like it was in the past.

                  yeah numbers need patched in

but this makes me think EA is saving player edits for for cfb 26 or 27 in case they cant get real coaches or a player union

Not only are you right, you're spot on. Those NCAA 14 CPU generated players were a joke. But it was also the attributes that sealed it. 95 OVR speed but 73 OVR acceleration? How does a guy run a 4.3 if he has poor burst? lol I mean it was a train wreck and I'm glad to see at least a few people in here who acknowledges it too.

I also do agree on name editing too. I know numbers are a hot topic in here, but this doesn't make much sense for those people. I agree if this is going to be a thing, it should be reversed to not editing names. Hopefully they try to explain in a few weeks why this is.

Forgive my ignorance since I’m relatively new here, but you’re an owner or mod or journalist for this site? Right? Or at least, given I am a random nobody, someone of more status and influence. Any chance you can help put the pressure on with more stories or if you have contacts at EA?

Facts. EA is giving us nuggies with ranch when we want tendies with honey mustard. Mind boggling decision on their part.

Also, I know Arch is in, but to use him as an example… my assumption is EA didn’t want to give us both names and numbers for legal purposes. Even if my QB recruit was a 5’10 black guy, they didn’t want me to be able to rename him Arch Manning and give him #16. I assume their thinking is that if you have a 5’10 black QB and you rename him Arch Manning but the game sticks him with #7, they are covered from a legal perspective.

Or they could have allowed you to change your QB to #16 but forced you to keep his generated name. They picked one I think.

In my opinion, they chose wrong.

And yes, I know Arch is in. Just an example.

Yeah, for sure, I do this stuff for various community issues that crop up. It doesn't necessarily lead to positive outcomes even in most cases but I do have some level of "influence" in terms of eyeballs at least.
