    Re: 10th Official NBA 2K Ratings Update - 5.7.24 - 1st Round Playoffs Update

When’s the last time we got a roster update during the postseason? I remember 2K16 but that’s it.

I'm rather amazed we have a ratings update too. Will we have one each round or a final one for the finals?

Man this is a little upsetting..... Some of these changes should of been done months ago. I still don't under how Maxey speed is so low. That's like the isn't rating to change.Expect Porter Jr.... I've been saying these updates since before all star break.

          Re: 10th Official NBA 2K Ratings Update - 5.7.24 - 1st Round Playoffs Update

          Anthony Edwards
          95 Overall (+4)
          95 close (+5)
          87 Mid (+5)
          86 3PT (+4)
          85 Speed with Ball (+2)
          91 Speed (+2)
          90 Acceleration (+1)
          62 Strength (+10)
          97 Vertical (+11)
Years overdue Athleticism update for the 2020 #1 Overall pick.

          Edwards Shooting (Regular Season)
          94 Layup: 244-411 (59 FG%, 35 AST%, 5.3 FGA/36) = GOOD
          95 Dunk: 67-79 (85 FG%, 51 AST%, 1.0 FGA/36) = OVERRATED (but whatever)
          95 Close: 218-494 (44 FG%, 28 AST%, 6.4 FGA/36) = GOOD
          87 Mid: 59-178 (33 FG%, 29 AST%, 2.3 FGA/36) = OVERRATED (by Regular season)
          86 3pt: 190-531 (36 FG%. 56 AST%, 6,9 FGA/36) = GOOD

          Real 2K Rosters Shot Ratings
          95 (+1) Layup
          85 (-10) Dunk
          94 (-1) Close
          80 (-7) Mid
          86 (NC) 3pt

Edwards is currently 9-13 (69%) from Mid-Range in the playoffs. He's doing his best Jimmy Butler impression by majorly ramping up his shooting efficiency.

The important takeaway is 2K is properly factoring his volume which is why our shooting ratings are otherwise nigh identical.

          --------------------------------------------------------------

          BADGE CHANGES
          41 (+9) Total

          INTERIOR SCORING
          HOF: Posterizer (+1)
GOLD: Acrobat, Aerial Wizard, Bunny (+2), Fast Twitch, Fearless Finisher (+1), Precision Dunker, Pro Touch (+1), Slithery, Two Step (+1)
          SILVER: Spin Cycle, Whistle
          BRONZE: Giant Slayer, Scooper

Posterizer (HOF): I believe this was technically updated prior to 5/7 (possibly in 3/28 or 3/7). Zero issues, Edwards has some of the most memorable posters of the last 5 years. I recommend a lower dunk rating despite the Badge because he's not Vince Carter doing it EVERY single game.

Continuing that 2K doesn't really understand dunker types...

Aerial Wizard (GOLD): Edwards had a grand total of FOUR Alley-Oops this year (0.1 Alley/36). There is a staunch difference between his lob threat and say, Derrick Jones Jr (25 Alleys, 0.5 per 36) or Aaron Gordon (64 Alleys, 1.0 per 36)

          INTERIOR BADGES (Real 2K Rosters)
          HOF: Posterizer
GOLD: Acrobat, Bunny, Fast Twitch, Fearless Finisher, Precision Dunker, Pro Touch, Slithery, Two Step
SILVER: Giant Slayer (+1), Spin Cycle, Whistle
BRONZE: Backdown Punisher (ADD), Float Game (ADD), Scooper
          REMOVE: Aerial Wizard (-3)

          ------------------------------------------------

          OUTSIDE SCORING
GOLD: Catch & Shoot (+1), Green Machine (+2), Open Looks (+2), Space Creator (ADD)
SILVER: Agent 3 (ADD), Blinders (ADD), Comeback Kid (+1), Deadeye (ADD), Free Points (ADD), Guard Up (ADD), Middy Magician, Slippery Off-Ball (+1), Spot Finder
          BRONZE: Limitless Range (ADD)

Edwards shooting badges were buffed across the board. This was long overdue given his shot creation.

          4.4 3PT Pull/Step FGA/36
          3.2 Mid Pull/Step FGA/36
          1.9 Stepback FGA/36
          1.3 Contested 3PA/36
          1.4 Fadeaway FGA/36
          6.2 Spot/Screen/Hand Poss/36
          2.7 Movement Poss/36
          43 3PT% Wide Open
          98 Clutch Points (43 FG%, 21 3PT%, 74 FT%)
          1-9 FG on 30 footers (3-22 Career)

Unfortunately, 2K isn't using any of this data (at least comparatively to the rest of the league) so while they understood the assignment (not having Space Creator or Agent 3 for this many YEARS was INSANE), they aren't able to truly identify Edwards' strengths and give a refined look at the player

          OUTSIDE SCORING (Real 2K Rosters)
GOLD: Agent 3 (+1), Green Machine, Guard Up (+1), Middy Magician (+1)
SILVER: Catch & Shoot (-1), Open Looks (-1), Slippery Off-Ball, Space Creator (-1), Spot Finder
BRONZE: Blinders (-1), Claymore (ADD), Comeback Kid (-1), Deadeye (-1), Post Fade Phenom (ADD)
REMOVE: Free Points (-2), Limitless Range (-1)

TLDR: Edwards isn't a knockdown shooter. He's one of the league's best off the dribble.

          ------------------------------------------

          PLAYMAKING
          GOLD: Blow-By (+2), Physical Handles (+1),
SILVER: Speed Booster (+1), Triple Strike (ADD)
          BRONZE: Killer Combos (ADD)

Edwards gets athleticism buffs, but where are the passing badges? Edwards was 44th in the NBA in Assist rate, ranking 8th among SGs. Notably ahead of Kyrie Irving. He trails 2K darling Stephen Curry by 0.1 AST%, whose passing badges would make any objective fan vomit.

Creation badges are also very light for a player who was 5th in Usage rate (32.3%).

          PLAYMAKING (Real 2K Rosters)
GOLD: Blow-By, Physical Handles, Handles For Days (ADD), Triple Strike (+1)
SILVER: Bail Out (ADD), Killer Combos (+1), Speed Booster
BRONZE: Ankle Breaker (ADD), Dimer (ADD), Hyperdrive (ADD), Unpluckable (ADD)

          -----------------------------------------------------

          DEFENSE ETC
          GOLD: Pogo Stick (+2)
          SILVER: Bulldozer (+1), Off-Ball Pest
BRONZE: Ankle Braces, Challenger, Fast Feet, Pick Dodger, Work Horse

Only athleticism updates, nothing to defense.
Edwards was 17th in Steals per game this year, finished 6th last year, 13th the year before that.

          DEFENSE ETC (Real 2K Rosters)
          GOLD: Pogo Stick
          SILVER: Bulldozer, Off-Ball Pest
BRONZE: Ankle Braces, Challenger, Clamps (ADD), Fast Feet, Interceptor (ADD), Pick Dodger, Work Horse

          Total Badges
          50: Real 2K Rosters
          41: 2K Sports
          32: Prior to today

          --------------------------------------------------

Applying my Badge Changes to Edwards has no impact on his 95 OVR.

Edwards is still 92 OVR in my roster so something going on w/ his attributes (far beyond what was initially posted). I'll give an extended attribute breakdown in a bit.

I believe the last time we had a Playoffs update was something like 2018 or 19 (Pre-Covid). I think they did two updates (by the time it's Conference Finals you don't really need another update).

Also IIRC the Heat got updated last year during the Finals run, but that's not quite the same as a league-wide update.

It took forever last year to even get Maxey to the 90 Speed/ACC we have now. I'm not sure why it is such a struggle to convince them to increase to 95 for both but it is.

I would have taken a look at boosting the following players

            - Donovan Mitchell - Currently 92 OVR which is far too low IMO. I guess 2K didn't watch the CLE-ORL series

            - Isaac Okoro - Currently 77 OVR - should be at least 78-80 OVR based on his incredible defense but that would have to come via badges which 2K is reluctant to edit before today

            - OG Anunoby - Currently 82 OVR - Should rate 83-84 OVR but also would need a revamp of attributes and badges

Andrew Nembhard - Currently 77 OVR - Could use a boost to 78-79 OVR based on series play vs Milwaukee on both ends of the floor

TJ McConnell - Currently 80 OVR - After his performance vs Milwaukee, he should have seen a slight boost to 81 OVR

Mike Conley Jr - Currently 81 OVR - Should be on par with D'Angelo Russell OVR but 2K vastly underrated Conley as usual

Jaden McDaniels - Currently 80 OVR - Should rate slightly higher based on defensive metrics + needs more badge adjustments

Nickeil Alexander-Walker - Currently a 76 OVR - Vastly underrated by 2K, especially on defense but deserves a small boost +1 or +2

Naz Reid - Currently 80 OVR - Could use a review of badges + attributes for a small boost

Real2KInsider is the rating expert but the above should have been included in reviewing the 1st round team overall

              Re: 10th Official NBA 2K Ratings Update - 5.7.24 - 1st Round Playoffs Update

Real 2K Rosters Rating Edit & Breakdown

              Anthony Edwards (Age 19)
              H/W: 6'4" / 225
              Pos: SG/SF
Arch: Floor-Spacing Slasher (from 2-Way Walking Bucket)
              93 (-2) OVERALL (2K Sports: +7 OVR since 9/8)
              50 (+9) BADGES (2K Sports: +9 Badges since 9/8)

Edwards is the #2 SG in the NBA (behind Donovan Mitchell). For 2K Sports he is #1
Across all positions, he's roughly #16 Overall (2K Sports: 8-12 range)

2K Sports on the other hand is ready to anoint him after six playoff games.
98 - Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic
97 - Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
96 - LeBron James, Kevin Durant
95 - Anthony Edwards, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, Stephen Curry
94 - Jayson Tatum, Jalen Brunson
93 - Ja Morant, Jimmy Butler, Kyrie Irving
92 - Donovan Mitchell, Kawhi Leonard
              91 - Tyrese Haliburton

Keep these ratings in mind when All-NBA teams are announced.

              ----------------------------------------------------

              FINISHING RATINGS
              95 (+1) Layup: 244-411 FG (59 FG%, 35 AST%, 5.3 FGA/36)
              85 (-10) D.Dunk: 67-79 FG (85 FG%, 51 AST%, 1.0 FGA/36)
              50 (NC) S.Dunk
              75 (+13) Fade: 1.4 Fade/36
              50 (-10) Hook: 0.1 Hook/36
              70 (+8) Post: 1.0 Postup/36
              75 (-23) D.Foul: .325 FTR (52nd in NBA)
              36 (NC) O.Reb: 2.2 ORB%

Guards/Wings with higher FT rates than Edwards (98 Foul Draw)
Jimmy Butler, DeMar DeRozan, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, James Harden, Damian Lillard, Luka Doncic, Collin Sexton, Devin Booker, Jayson Tatum, Bennedict Mathurin, R.J. Barrett

Edwards (0.325 FTR) drew slightly more FTs than 40-year old LeBron James (0.318 FTR).

The inflation of his Foul rating accounts for 1 OVR point. If they REALLY felt he was worthy of getting maxed here, why didn't they improve his Whistle badge?

Ant's Post attributes also went completely untouched this year (probably a common trend).

              2K Sports Year-Long Changes
              98 (+14) Foul Draw
              95 (+5) Driving Dunk
              36 (+2) Offensive Rebound

              ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

              SHOOTING RATINGS
              [b]94 (-1) Close Shot: 218-494 FG (44 FG%, 28 AST%, 6.4 FGA/36)
              73 (-14) Mid Shot: 59-178 FG (33 FG%, [b]29 AST%, 2.3 FGA/36)
              86 (NC) 3pt Shot: 190-531 FG (36 FG%, 56 AST%, 6,9 FGA/36)
              84 (-1) Free Throw: 523-406 FT (84 FT%)
              90 (-8) Shot IQ: 58 TS% / 32 USG% (5th in NBA) (Playoffs: 66 TS% / 31 USG%)

Ant having a higher FT rating (he's at 82% in the Playoffs) just shows the lacking attention to detail that 2K has even when they go all-out on a player like this. They just make broad strokes.

              Edwards Mid-Range
              Career Reg Season (302 games): 161-486 (33 FG%, 1.7 FGA/36)
              Last two Reg seasons (158 games): 114-335 (34 FG%, 2.1 FGA/36)
              Career Playoffs (17 games): 19-33 (58 FG%, 1.8 FGA/36)

The playoff sample is small but this is the biggest split I've ever seen and it bears keeping an eye on. Ant being able to hit these is what's made him unguardable in the playoffs.

The Mid-Range inflation (relative to the regular season) accounts for 1 OVR point.

Shot IQ (relative to the regular season) also accounts for about half a point. If Ant is gonna shoot LeBron/KD/Luka/Curry-esque percentages on his volume then yeah max him. It seems more Jamal Murray-ish than being indicative of a true leap (everyone looks good when the tough shots are going down).

              2K Sports Year-Long Changes
              98 (+28) Shot IQ
              95 (+13) Close Shot
              87 (+6) Mid Shot
              86 (+5) 3pt Shot
              85 (+9) Free Throw

              --------------------------------------------------------------------

              PLAYMAKING
              95 (+9) Handle: 7.5 PNR/36, 4.6 ISO/36 (12.1 Total / among League Leaders)
              70 (-2) P.Vision: 24.6 AST% (44th in NBA, 8th among SGs)
              80 (+1) P.IQ
              75 (+1) P.Acc: 1.7 ATR
              99 (+1) Hands: 12 TO% / 32 USG% (5th in NBA)

As mentioned w/ Badges, 2K doesn't really comprehend how good Edwards is at creating offense. He's the team's primary initiator, rather than PG Mike Conley.

              2K Sports Year-Long Changes
              72 (+4) Pass Vision

              --------------------------------------------------------------------

              DEFENSE
              62 (-1) D.Reb: 14.8 DRB%
              65 (+6) IntDef
              90 (+7) PerDef
              [b]48 (-4) Block: 1.3 BLK%
              70 (+17) Steal: 1.8 STL%

Edwards defensive ratings went completely untouched by 2K Sports, even though Minnesota went from the #10 defensive team to the #1 team (by a large margin).

              2K Sports Year-Long Changes
              63 (-2) Defensive Rebound
              53 (-10) Steal
              52 (-5) Block

              -------------------------------------------------------------------------

              ATHLETICISM
90 (+6) L.Quick (Listen, these clowns still have Giannis at 90)
              90 (-1) Speed
              90 (+5) B.Speed
              90 (NC) Acceleration
99 (+2) Vertical: Max Vert: 41.5 (It ONLY took them 5 years)
              70 (+8) Strength: 6'4" / 225
              95 (-2) Stamina: 35 MPG (18th in NBA) / 40 MPG Playoffs
              80 (-10) Hustle: 2.1 Deflections/36
              95 (+11) Durability: 302/318 Career Games (95%)

Edwards finally got his long-awaited Athleticism boost but 2K still fell short IMO.

              2K Sports Year-Long Changes
              97 (+11) Vertical
              97 (+8) Stamina
              91 (+2) Speed
              90 (+1) Acceleration
              85 (+2) Ball Speed
              62 (+10) Strength

              --------------------------------------------------------------------------

              MENTAL
              95 (-3) O.Con: 2.7 OBPM (Playoffs: 7.9!!!)
              75 (-10) D.Con: 0.5 DBPM (Playoffs: 3.6!!!)
              85 (+3) Help
              75 (-5) P.Percept
              99 (+1) Intangibles

This again just illustrates how dominant MIN has been in the playoffs so far through 6 games.

I'm not ready to declare Ant the same level player as prime MJ, but I guess 2K Sports is. What could go wrong?

              2K Sports Year-Long Changes
              98 (+8) Intangibles

              ----------------------------------------------------

FWIW my current Superstar Ratings (Top 26)
98 - Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid (DNQ)
              97 - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic
95 - Tyrese Haliburton, Donovan Mitchell (DNQ)
94 - Jalen Brunson, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Ja Morant (DNQ)
93 - Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Edwards, Jimmy Butler (DNQ)
92 - Jayson Tatum, Stephen Curry, Paul George, Kyrie Irving (DNQ)
91 - Zion Williamson, Damian Lillard, De'Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, Trae Young (DNQ)
              90 - Jamal Murray (DNQ)

              19 qualify for awards.
Edwards rates 12th among qualifiers and 6th among qualifying guards.

2K is going all-out for a player whose probably making All-NBA 3rd Team.

Why are we pretending after a full-season of what Shai did that Edwards after one week is anywhere close?

IMAGINE having a whole season and not updating the Ball Handle, Post Game, Passing, or Defense on this guy.

At least they finally updated the Athleticism on Ant after five years but ******* the bar is so ****ing low for this roster team.

                  Jalen Williams
                  Fearless Finisher - Bronze>Silver
                  Pro Touch - Bronze>Silver
                  Middy Magician - Bronze>Silver
Open Looks - Added - Silver
Physical Handles - Added - Bronze
Pogo Stick - Added - Bronze
It's actually WAY more comprehensive than this.

                  Jalen Williams Badge Changes
                  GOLD: Catch & Shoot (+2), Green Machine (+2), Guard Up (+1), Slippery Off-Ball (+1), Spot Finder (+2)
SILVER: Blinders (ADD), Corner Specialist (ADD), Fearless Finisher (+1), Middy Magician (+1), Open Looks (ADD), Pro Touch (+1)
BRONZE: Physical Handles (ADD), Pogo Stick (ADD)
                  TOTAL: 21 (+5)

The Gold boosts to Catch & Shoot and Spot Finder are an extreme oversimplification. Jalen hit 43% from three this year but he also did so on well-below average volume (3.9 3PA/36 - that's 0.1 more than Shai and less than Josh Giddey).

His shooting is comparable to other high% low volume Thunder players Aaron Wiggins, Cason Wallace who AREN'T getting that kind of badge treatment.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander also had a badge added.
                  GOLD: Fast Twitch (+1), Ankle Breaker (+1), Dimer (+1), Blow-By (+1), Relay Passer (+1), Speed Booster (+1)
                  SILVER: Chase Down Artist (ADD)
                  TOTAL: 41 (+1)

I'm guessing SGA had a highlight block or something because the rest of his defensive badges were totally ignored.
OKC was 4th defensively this season btw.

                  -------------------------------------------------

                  Chet Holmgren
                  GOLD: Anchor (+2)
SILVER: Catch & Shoot (+1), Claymore (+1), Deadeye (ADD), Green Machine (ADD), Post Lockdown (+1), Rise Up (ADD)
                  TOTAL: 10 (+3)

Even with these recent badge additions by 2K Sports, the 1st place Thunder only have 8 more badges than the last-place Portland Trail Blazers.

If I can do the Ratings, Badges, and Tendencies for all 30 teams in a two month span, while balancing a job and a life, why the **** can't three 2K developers?

2K's Prisoner of the Moment is at it again.

                      Tyrese Maxey
                      BADGE TOTAL: 29 (+3)

                      FINISHING (12)
SILVER: Acrobat (+1), Fast Twitch, Fearless Finisher, Float Game, Pro Touch, Scooper, Slithery, Two Step, Whistle
BRONZE: Bunny, Giant Slayer, Spin Cycle

                      SHOOTING (14)
GOLD: Comeback Kid (ADD), Corner Specialist, Limitless Range (ADD)
SILVER: Agent 3 (ADD), Catch & Shoot, Open Looks, Spot Finder
BRONZE: Blinders, Claymore, Green Machine, Guard Up, Middy Magician, Slippery Off-Ball, Space Creator

Maxey gets GOLD Comeback Kid predominantly off his Game 5 heroics. Does he actually deserve it?

                      Clutch
                      Season: 86 pts (22nd in NBA), 107 mins (25-71 FG, 7-23 3PT, 29-33 FT) = 35-30-89
                      Playoffs: 26 pts (2nd in NBA), 26 mins (8-15 FG, 3-5 3PT, 7-8 FT) = 53-60-88

Maxey currently ranks 2nd among players in Playoff Clutch points (of course, he trails Jalen Brunson by a considerable margin). His regular season production was pedestrian by comparison. They could have just given him Bronze.

Limitless Range GOLD is comedy (and is likewise based solely on a game 5 shot). This is something I track league-wide in my spreadsheet.

                      Maxey 30-34 Feet
                      2021: 1-5
                      2022: 2-6
                      2023: 4-11
                      2024: 6-23
                      Career: 13-45

To give an idea of how far from a Gold that is, Steph Curry was 18-64 this season alone.

Tyrese Haliburton shot 16-37 this season and has NO BADGE.
Maybe Mike Stauffer is related to referee Marc Davis
I'm not sure who has more big market bias!

                      PLAYMAKING (3)
                      SILVER: Needle Threader, Speed Booster
                      BRONZE: Blow-By

Maxey improved his playmaking & shot creation this season (en route to him being named 2024 Most Improved Player), yet this naturally got zero attention from 2K.

                        RATINGS

They gave him 99 Stamina and 99 Hustle. Also has an 81 Offensive Rebound which breaks scale (7.8 ORB% in playoffs = 64) but I'm not going to fight them on.

Checking in with his 3PT (79)
                        vs PHI (6 gms): 16-37 (43%)
                        vs IND (3 gms): 3-5

Pacers aren't leaving him open like PHI was.

                        Real 2K Rosters Playoff Changes
                        83 OVR (+3)
99 Hustle (+19) - Acknowledging my scale doesn't grasp full effect of his player type
                        80 3PT (+5) - Career-low 31 3PT% clearly an aberration, shooting 45% in playoffs.
                        80 Shot IQ (+20) - 60 Playoffs TS% from RS 52%. More in-line w/ prior two seasons.
75 Draw Foul (+30) - 0.378 Playoff FTR from RS 0.169. Also more in-line w/ prior two seasons.
65 Offensive Consistency (+10) - Had -1.3 OBPM in RS, up to 0.6 in Playoffs.

Hart has proven himself worthy of getting the Caleb Martin / Duncan Robinson treatment from last year. Most of his Playoff production is in-line w/ what he did in the 2022 and 2023 regular seasons. He had an abysmal start to the season this year while adjusting to his new role (as Randle's backup -which he hasn't been in w/ the former's extended injury), which he's played himself out of.

Of course, the difference between my 83 OVR and 2K Sports 83 OVR is relative to where we have the rest of the league.

                        2K Sports
                        83: Josh Hart
                        82: OG Anunoby (LOL)
                        80: Lu Dort, Dillon Brooks
79: Aaron Nesmith, Jalen McDaniels, Andrew Wiggins
                        77: Max Strus, Isaac Okoro
76: Derrick Jones Jr, Kyle Anderson

Even with these recent badge additions by 2K Sports, the 1st place Thunder only have 8 more badges than the last-place Portland Trail Blazers.

If I can do the Ratings, Badges, and Tendencies for all 30 teams in a two month span, while balancing a job and a life, why the **** can't three 2K developers?
last time i done rosters for 2k was 2k16 ps3 and it only took me around 3 weeks plus 3 more weeks of minor updates the hardest guy for me was kobe 1 day he was a 79 the next a 77 this was his last season in the nba

now their biggest miss is badges it seems like they only watch 5% of the NBA
