What Should the Bears Do With the 1st Overall?

Thought I would throw this all out to the gurus here and see how this develops over the offseason. If this was your franchise, would you keep Fields and trade the pick? Would you trade Fields and draft a QB? Would you keep both Fields and pick? Any other ideas? I'm really curious to see what everyone's opinions are here.

I like the possibility of getting Harrison and maybe trading another WR (not Moore) for another third round pick. They will still have their other 1st round pick I believe use that on O line.

Bears fan here, trade the pick for 2-3 more firsts over the next 2 years.
Grab one of these stud receivers (Harrison, Coleman, Odunze, Nabers) and a DE (Verse, Turner). Second round grab a Center and best player available the rest of the draft. Maybe draft a QB in the 5th or 6th..

I’m comfortable sticking with Fields, he’s not perfect but he’s gotten incrementally better each year and there is no guarantee drafting another QB will work out. Best case would be for Washington and New England to stay 2 and 3 and get them in a bidding war for #1 and you can still draft Harrison. I’m ok getting a smaller return than last year if it lands Harrison

I think Fields has shown enough to warrant trying to build around him. Trade back a spot or two and grab MHJ.

my thoughts exactly. I so want him in Chicago, mentored by DJ. Don't screw this up Chicago.

As a Packer Fan, I wholeheartedly endorse keeping Fields. He’s been perfect.

Matter of fact, he’s deserving of a huge contract so I hope they give him that also. Top 5 highest paid Qb in the league money.

Extremely hard decision to make. There’s very obvious risks to each.

I think the best move to make is trade Fields for what you can get and take the QB with #1. Fields has shown flashes, and lately consistency, as things have stabilized around him but stabilized doesn’t equal wins and playoffs and championships. This is a classic example of going with what you got (ascending talent, a roster maturing together, coaching continuity) or taking that big home run swing.

The problem is, if you swing for the fences, you have to go all out. To me, that would include bringing in a coaching staff fully committed to the rookie QB and his development. Not exactly fair to Eberflus, Getsy as the team has been good of late but sometimes you have to take one step back to take two forward.

So the better decision to me is the uglier one. That doesn’t include the Bears having to identify and hire the best head coach candidate if they go that route. There are quite a few hot OC names and a couple DC’s in the mix too so there should be a decent group to pick from but man, it’s hard to cut ties to everything from the last 2-3 years and starting over with unknowns.

Not to mention the contract lengths and money of a rookie QB compared to what will be a 4th year QB. That’s a major factor too.

I think it all depends on the head coach coming back.
If he is, they are probably looking to trade down,
keeping Fields and stock piling more picks.

Trade Fields to Denver, and take a QB first overall

FTR, I’m being completely sarcastic here.

As a Packers Fan, them doing all that would be great for us because it’s a sign they want to continue living in mediocrity. He’s in Year 3 and barely pushes the ball downfield, which the film and numbers will back up. He’ll connect on a deep bomb or 2 every now and then, but if it ain’t a screen pass, he’s taking off and running with it.

I look at it like this: We were having this same discussion regarding the Giants/Daniel Jones where folks thought they should sign him and let him continue improving. Even before he got hurt, he wasn’t showing the consistent signs of improving and now that he’s hurt, they’ll probably be looking at Qb in the Draft and he’ll probably be playing somewhere else.

If you still don’t know if he can be the guy for you after 3 years and you’re in position to reset the Qb clock so to speak, you’re better off starting over as opposed to wondering if a mistake was made in paying him just for being “Ok/Average”.

That's a good question, but likely much lower than the trade value is for the 1st overall pick.

My worry though is that I truly do want Marvin Harrison Jr but I don't see him slipping past Arizona if they draft 2. That is unless you think they are willing to trade Murray (a possibility of course) so I'm not even sure if you look to make a trade or just actually draft the best WR of his class and call it a day.

If NE or WASH end up at 2, that changes things greatly since there is a very high chance id think they want a franchise QB.

Based on what Darnold and Wentz brought back he’ll fetch at least a second, maybe more if some middle of the pack team gets left without a seat in the off season game of QB musical chairs
