So what is the best way to setup the Computers Bullpen to get the most realistic usage from them in game and Simmed? Or are they both the same fix?

Re: AI Bullpen Logic
My bullpen usually looks like this:
LRP1: Good short reliever
LRP2/3: Vacant
MRP1: Best setup man
MRP2: Second best setup man
MRP3: Third best setup man
MRP4: Fourth best setup man
SU1: Fifth best reliever
SU2: Sixth best reliever
CL: Closer
When you sim, the guys in the SU slots don’t throw a lot for some reason.Last edited by JoeRodgers1175; 03-24-2023, 02:22 PM. -
Re: AI Bullpen Logic
I don’t do 30-team control because I don’t have the time, but for my team (I sim most franchise games) I never put a long man in the LRP slots. They end up throwing 150+ innings. Then I use the rest of the bullpen as more of a depth chart (except closer). My top reliever goes in MRP1, second in MRP2, and so forth. Not perfect but not bad.

Re: AI Bullpen Logic
This 7 man bullpen gave some solid balance across simulated seasons with multiple teams/pitching staffs
*Don’t put SP/high stamina in the bullpen LRP they will eat up way too many innings.
* Too many lefties in the BP can mess up innings totals for the relief staff
My setup for the CPU bullpen management:
LRP: 1-9 innings (innings eaters) (spot starters) (trailing in a game)
5th best right arm
6th best right arm or left arm
4th best right arm (heaver work load)
MR: 7-9 innings (close game pitchers)
2nd best right arm
3rd best right arm
Best Left arm
SU1
Leave blank (pretty low innings total)
SU 2
Leave blank (extremely low innings)
CL Close situations
Closer/best arm (right or left arm)

Re: AI Bullpen Logic
First, make sure cpu only has ONE 6th starter or guy with high stamina. After that, set up their bullpen this way. I promise it's the best possible setup for the cpu. I doubt they can fix the logic, or they would've by now.
Put your 2 lowest rated RP pitchers that have less than 40 stamina in the 2 LRP spots.
Put your best RP/setup man in the SU1 spot.
Put your closer in the closer spot like normal.
Put your highest rated RP’s in the MRP 1-3 spots.
Put the 6th starter/LRP pitcher in the MRP4 spot.
SU2- empty

Re: AI Bullpen Logic
In Game, it is definitely improved I played a game as the Tigers vs the Astros, and the Astros burned through their entire bullpen, using middle relievers when they should have. Never used their long man. Starter went 5 innings. They were down 5-1, but brought in middle relievers. 7 pitchers combined to pitch the final 6 innings of the game (it went 11 innings) none pitching more than an inning.
Game before that, their starter got knocked around, only going 2.2 innings. Long reliever went 3.1 innings (they were losing 5-0 when he came in) and then 4 relievers combined for the final 3 innings.
I'm not sure about simmed games, that could be (and probably is) much different, but in game, I like the bullpen management.Comment

I’m not Having the same luck unfortunately.
Playing vs the Brewers. They gone down by 2 in the 2nd inning.
Freddy Peralta throws 5 IP. Then Adrian Houser follows him and pitches the last 4 IP despite being down 2 runs the entire time.

Re: AI Bullpen Logic
I cannot understand how they ignore this issue year after year after year after year. It's THE issue that has kept me from enjoying franchise mode the last few years. I used to be one that would go in and make edits and whatnot in these games to have them working better, but I've reached a point these days where I want a working product that doesn't require me to fix the mistakes of the developers, so going in and changing every single teams bullpen setup is not a route I'll go down.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

I would like to add that this was in Exhibition so it could work differently in franchise but I doubt it.- Franchise Fidelity to Reality Roster out now! (MLB 25)
