Is it me or did the CPU get WAY better

I’ve been getting cooked lately by the CPU. Namely after the patch (but even leading to the patch). The AI in this game really is next level. It feels alive when I’m playing them. CPU is so good now I have to lower their shooting sliders from where it was pre patch (and where I’ve had it for months) because they’re just ruthless when they get hot.

The only downside I’ve noticed gameplay wise lately is that cpu now intercepts the ball at a ridiculous rate. It feels like 2K22 again in that regard. I can’t make any needle thread highlight passes into the paint as it just gets caught by a defender.

Edit: Changed title to reflect how cpu got much worse after launch (after it had gotten better for the first day).

Re: Is it me or did the CPU get WAY better

I literally turned the game off in a rage a couple of nights ago.

I'm normally really good threading the needle. Playing as Nash or Stockton, getting the ball to Amare or Malone for some awesome pick n roll action has always been a blast.

Last week or so, it's been sheer agony. Doesn't matter how open the space is for the pass, or what type of pass it is, the CPU just keeps magically picking it off, time and time and time again when it has no business doing so.

I even swallowed my pride and lowered the CPU 'hands' sliders but it made ZERO difference.

CPU challenges me WHEN I’m not using the 83 Lakers lol. They just must be too good!

I've lowered the cpu's Play Passing Lanes tendency to combat this. It seems to be effective.

Is there a downside to that? Like worse defense or anything? I don’t want to deter the cpu from playing aggressive D, I just want them to stop magically grabbing all my passes. I loved how 2K23 had great defense but also I wouldn't rack up 500 turnovers through passing interceptions. But it seems the balance in that regard is off now. I’ll try playing with those sliders.

Okay glad I'm not the only one seeing this! Even when I get a lead it's not as safe lol I've even seen some new animations happen definitely enjoying it though.

I'm in the same boat with the flashy highlight passes too.

Re: Is it me or did the CPU get WAY better

I'm modestly concerned with how difficult it was to get an edge on defenders off the dribble last game (post-patch). I lowered CPU on-ball defense to zero and that allowed for some other ways to score but "slipping past" a defender with a live dribble still seemed to lead to mostly stonewalling.

For years now, my least favorite 2K tendency has been those times where they implement a wide "stone wall" cone across the board to disallow ballhandlers from being able to naturally elude CPU defenders one on one. So much about one-on-one play in basketball is about those "kind of" edges as opposed to the working yourself into a super wide open opportunity.

I'm not ready to go all in on this observation yet though, as Isiah Thomas was mostly guarded by Maurice Cheeks last game, so that could help explain things. But I swear I also saw some of those defensive "mirror" movements that I've seen and hated in recent 2K's, where the defender seems to be able to magically read my controller input and drop themselves perfectly into position to both contest my jumper and take away my drive.

CPU offense has definitely improved as far as execution. There was something put in as far as coaching game plans, in addition to some sets being implemented that probably has something to do with it.

Game is in a pretty sweet spot where a challenge is presented without feeling cheesy or too restrictive movement wise…

                Really fun game right now

Yeah it is. I have to lower cpu shooting sliders. They’re just too good now and it legit drove me nuts last night. It’s a great problem to have, not complaining, it’s what I’ve always asked for. But I don’t need every game to feel like game 7 of the finals before bed lol. Gonna have to reaclimate and get my skills up before raising them back to where they currently are.

That’s funny cause I found the game was too easy for elite slashers to beat defenders out of the box. Believe it or not but I have body up sensitivity at 90, and CPU on ball defense/awareness/consistency/lateral quickness at 98 lol. Also I have help defense sliders at 78. I do get the stone wall effect but for slashers like Jordan I feel it’s necessary otherwise I can get to the basket without any problems every time.

Beating a defender with even Zach Lavine is hard now. But beating one with MJ, Kobe, AI etc. feels just right. Still can be easy but also can also give a challenge or be too hard to do, which is realistic. Elite slashers are so far and away boosted compared to regular slashers in this game that I find you have to pick your poison. Either make it way too hard for average players to give some challenge for elite slashers, or make it more realistic for average slashers which makes it a cakewalk for the elite ones.

Played a solid game with Jordan's Bulls vs the Rockets in 91/92 last night. Toned down the hands sliders a little more and managed to get a better flow to the Pick n Roll game without the CPU robbing me every time I try to execute.

Got some nice drives with Scottie and MJ but it did seem like the CPU was stone walling more than it has been. That, I'm not a fan of. If I get an angle, don't rely on cheap code to block me from getting to the bucket. Send help, or get the shot blockers ready, but don't widen the magic wall.

I also think the CPU AI has gotten smarter and plays more realistically. And personally Im loving it. I was at that point where everything was coming to me too easily. And the CPU was getting too predictable. Now Im feeling like Im having to make way more in-game adjustments like changing defensive matchups and schemes to counter the CPU offense. Cant get caught slippin guarding a guy like Luka with a smaller guard anymore.

                        Lower Body-Up Sensitivity.

Also after the patch, I’m finding the CPU is passing to the paint more on pick and role plays which I don’t like since it’s a cheesy and unrealistic bucket for them.

Does anyone feel like USER shooting has gotten harder? My 3 point percentage has tanked. It’s fine as I can adjust sliders but I want to see if I’m just imagining things there. I lowered defensive jumpshot strength sliders from 15 to 10 now (10 is where I had it on 2K22 to good results) since I feel like shots are harder to make now. Or maybe it’s that cpu defense has gotten better thankfully.

As a big 2k Stan since Dreamcast I have the right to criticize constructively and give my props 👊

So with that being said getting the CPU to finally challenge the user on HOF deserve a standing ovation 👏👏👏👏

I'm not getting a high percentage from the CPU like some are saying but boy when they get hot they not playing around 🔥

The scores has been sweet realistic

                            Kobe Era-. 90-105

                            Modern Era-. 115-125

I hope 2k won't overreact and we wake up with a update and the CPU becomes easy again
If it's too hard try sliders or knocked down a lower difficulty level respectfully

                            Good job 2k🍻

I’ve had to increase all the shooting success for both user and CPU after the patch.
