Have they ever commented on why penalties are nerfed on simulation?

So I’m holding R1, which is (((theoretically))) tied directly to facemask penalties (strip ball mechanic + facemask = same button = mirror function; strip-ball coach adjustment = “higher risk of facemask,” aggressive tackle attempt in combat with conservative ballcarrier = higher facemask probability.

My last play, I’m holding R1 because I do that a lot anyway, *and* I literally get a facemask animation, the facemask penalty slider is on 99 and STILL no call.

It’s like, it’s there, they put everything in, it all makes sense, and then, for no reason at all, we can’t have it.

I'd say at least half of the sliders clearly don't work at all.

It took Interceptions being completely ridiculous for them to admit and fix that

Besides the legacy coding issues and Madden 16, penalties have never

really mattered to the Madden team.

My only reason of thinking is that they wouldn't want penalties to

disrupt the flow of tournaments by triggering on a game ending play.

It's been a pet peeve of mine for a decade or more.

I paid for the game, let me play with it in my own world and sandbox.

I hear you. Penalties are there but they are kinda random. I have seen DPI, OPI, holding etc but even with the sliders maxed, they are a bit off.

Before the patches, I actually saw a late hit out of bounds here and there as well as OPI here and there. It's almost as though they said "whoa... how in the world did something so realistic make it in the game!?!?! We better take care of this!"

It is not answering the question but I've given up with EA. Absolutely no excuse that something that was an issue three consoles ago still exists.

Yes, but you'd think that if they had multiple game modes, "Simulation" would be able to have penalty sliders do what they are intended to do, while "Competitive" would make them essentially useless.

It why QBs always fumble when tackled. It's why user defenders are so lazy in coverage. Everything is tuned to competitive head to head. There's no accounting for simulation. In a simulation QBs getting hit would be an issue because of injuries and not fumbles. A lot of the original coaching adjustments had pros and cons that specifically mentioned penalties. Now it's all gameplay oriented.

I thought the whole point of having the arcade/sim/comp option was to allow for things like penalties to work better. For some reason I remember that being one of the claims when those options were added.

Obviously they don't help or really differentiate the play modes at all. At this point sim may as well be labeled arcade ridiculous tackles and no penalties even when you truly deserve them. I have deliberately pass interfered the cpu and I mean and egregious PI and didn't get flagged. A one off like that is fine, that happens in the nfl but I can get multiple a game were no flag gets tossed. I think Roadman is probably right in that the majority of the blame on this goes back to the reused/coded on top of 20-30 year old madden code.

It'll never get fixed and this will likely be my last madden. I'm sure college football will be a mess but at least it might still feel fresh simply by being college.
