    NBA 2K17 Pro-Am Primer: Defense

    Ready for round two?

    Let's get it.

This side of the floor seems to really give folks trouble. Part of that is because the offense in this year's game is overpowering, but the other portion consists of a factor you've probably seen me mention already: player ability. More than ever before, you really have to be in-tune with your MyPlayer and his capabilities. For instance, I play with a 6-foot-7 point guard, which allows me the ability to help and scramble defensively without completely deserting my man for a wide open look. Staying within the realm of of your player's strengths is going to be key in deciding whether you get the stop or you don't. Improving your "stick skills" is pretty obvious, but three key factors could help take your Pro-Am squad from average to elite: communication, synchronicity and IQ.

So many people don't know real basketball defense basics and it drives me crazy in pro am. Why is the center trying to pick up the pg at half court leaving his man wide open under the rim for the easy dunk? Why are 2 of my teammates tying to guard the player I'm already guarding effectively leaving 2 guys open. Why is the center standing in the paint as his stretch big mark knocks down 3 after 3?

Real basketball basics have nothing to do with this game because it doesn't portray real basketball. All "good" teams have 2 offensive stradegies.

      1. Spam illegal picks or double picks until the ballhandler throws up a 3 pointer that he makes 3 out of 4 times.

      2. Abuse hall of fame limitless range and bomb three pointers every possession.

I hate when our big picks up the PG full court. It's maddening, especially on critical possessions. Our team has pretty decent defensive IQ but I wonder about our bigs at times.

            This

Another reason why anybody people with Sharpshooters are wacky to me and have credibility in skill for the game.

Can we get some more strategy against the AI defense(MYGM player). The AI defense kills this game. I play on HOF and can average 25+ easily using a player rated below 85. If feels like I instead of the game becoming more difficult on HOF, it becomes more offensively OP & below average defenders just stick to you like glue. Defenders don't cut off angles or bait players into bad passes, instead they just read every button you push and react in an unreal way. Kawhi isn't the best defender because he can see what moves you'll make before the animation does. He uses his body and angles to stay in front and cut off defenders, forces you to pick up the ball then pressures you into a bad pass. The rotations defensively don't really make sense. Open players all over the court for no reason too.
