Re: NASCAR Heat Evolution Available, Post Your Impressions Here

I received a copy of the game on Wednesday so I have played a couple of hours each of the past couple of nights. I was pretty excited to finally have a NASCAR game again for a console, but out of the box my impressions were not the greatest. The game is growing on me however.

I'm on the PS4 playing with a controller so that has impacted some of the settings I have decided to use for the time being. My first night with the game I spent playing the various challenges (the one that came with the game and the free Toyota pack you can download).

Based on some of the reviews I was reading of the game being too easy, I went straight to the simulation setting. This made it apparent right away that I suck at this game or the simulation setting is unplayable with a controller. I struggled to complete a lap without spinning out by myself or getting wrecked. Is anyone finding any success using the simulation setting on a controller? This was pretty frustrating and I quit the first night not having very good impressions.

Last night I turned off the simulation setting and found much more success after a couple of hours of play. Did one race now and then jumped into the career mode. I agree with comments made that the game seems to play better, the longer the race is. Completed both the Daytona and Atlanta races on 25% race length, normal competition, 2x tire wear and fuel, all flags on.

Daytona was not very eventful- didn't mess with the car setup at all. Had one caution that I didn't cause and ended up finishing 24th.

Atlanta was a lot of fun though - ending up finishing 12th. Played with the car setup in practice (not really sure what I was doing) and ended up with a much better feeling car. Qualified 30th which seemed like a win. Started the race and was up to 19th place about 25 laps in when the first caution came out (again not caused by me). I decide to pit since I was near the end of the cars still on the lead lap. About half of the cars in front of me pit and I restart 22nd. We go 15 laps and I find myself up to 11th place because the cars in front of me who didn't pit have to make green flag pit stops. We keep going green and I make my green flag stop on lap 58 of 81. Come out 27th but my tires are fresh and I am flying through the field. Almost seemed too overpowered. Get back up to 11th with 6 laps left and the second yellow comes out. I decide to pit because I'm near the end of the lead lap again. Didn't really matter as my weak car is no competition for the leaders. Finish 12th which I am still really happy with.

Sorry for all of the detail but the Atlanta race was so much fun. Seemed very realistic and I ended up with a great finish only because of my pit strategy. After these two races I'm up to 19,000 in points already and should unlock all of tracks shortly if 20,000 is the top level.

Will continue to keep playing around - hope to be able to switch to simulation at some point. I'm definitely not the greatest at the game but will be interested to see if anyone else is having success using the simulation setting with a controller. Or if I need to invest in a wheel.

I run on simulation, with a controller. It's difficult, no doubt. Fast tracks like Atlanta, Texas, Cali, Michigan etc, etc it should be fairly simple, unless you have to make quick movements, then you're likely going to struggle. Tracks that involve braking however, they're going to be much more difficult on simulation with a controller, likely the two road courses too.

It can be done, but it will test your patience, and light tough on the triggers and sticks.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Definitely makes sense - I know that I have to become a lot more patient too. On restarts I just want to go and try to make a lot of moves that I should not but I cannot help myself.

Yeah, it was cut off on my screen. It was triangle. 25% helped this game a lot.

Re: NASCAR Heat Evolution Available, Post Your Impressions Here

Raced Atlanta in Career Mode this morning, 25%, 2x tire/fuel seems to be the sweet spot for now. Races last about 20 minutes and you do have to manage your pit stops. Again it was a really fun and competitive race, I finished middle of the pack and felt it was a fair outcome.

My main gripe is that I was able to race the entire race full throttle, I literally never took my finger off the trigger. A superspeedway I can understand, but not Atlanta. Maybe this is because they give you a weak car to start with, we'll see what happens after a few garage upgrades.

I'm really liking the feel of this game. On Hard (career setting) with a decent track length, position battles become supremely important. Race outside the groove or lose the draft and you can feel the race slipping through your fingers.

Wow, impressive to get one out this quick. Quite a large one too. Hopefully lots of good stuff here!

Don't see it mentioned in the patch notes, but I hope they adjusted the driver ratings of some drivers.
