2016 USA Men's National Team & 1992 Dream Team Coming to NBA 2K17

The 2016 USA Men's National Team, including Coach Mike Krzyzewski, will be featured in NBA 2K17. Unfortunately, we don't know which mode(s) they will be featured in.

Coach K will appear on the sidelines coaching the 2016 USA Basketball Men's National Team in NBA 2K17. His likeness will also be found in a revamped tutorial mode focusing on teaching fundamental basketball strategies including pick and roll execution, proper defensive positioning, ball movement, boxing out, court awareness and more.

The Australian National Team was confirmed last week.

The 1992 Dream Team will also be featured in the game, but no word on whether or not it will feature the full roster.

UPDATE: The 1992 Dream Team will feature the full roster in NBA 2K17, including Charles Barkley.

The 2016 USA Basketball Men’s National Team, including Coach Mike Krzyzewski, is heading to NBA 2K17! Fans who pre-order NBA 2K17 will receive the legendary 1992 USA Basketball “Dream Team”, along with a special USAB MyPLAYER jersey to fully customize their USA Basketball experience.

NBA 2K17 to Feature 2016 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and Legendary 1992 USA Basketball “Dream Team”

USA National Team Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski part of NBA 2K franchise for the first time

2K today announced a partnership with USA Basketball that will bring the full roster of the 2016 USA Basketball Men’s National Team, including coach Mike Krzyzewski, to NBA 2K17, the next iteration of the top-rated and top-selling NBA video game simulation series*. Fans who pre-order NBA 2K17 will receive the legendary 1992 USA Basketball “Dream Team,” along with a USA Basketball MyPLAYER jersey.

2K has also revealed that renowned Duke University and USA Basketball coach, Mike Krzyzewski, will be making his debut in the NBA 2K series. Krzyzewski – or “Coach K,” as he’s widely known - will appear on the sidelines coaching the 2016 USA Basketball Men's National Team in NBA 2K17. His likeness will also be found in a revamped tutorial mode focusing on teaching fundamental basketball strategies including pick and roll execution, proper defensive positioning, ball movement, boxing out, court awareness and more.

“Basketball has become an iconic part of American sports heritage, and I’m thrilled that fans can play with this year’s roster in NBA 2K,” said Krzyzewski who, since 2008, has coached the USA Basketball Men’s National Team to four straight international tournament gold medals. “NBA 2K17 is the best way to connect to legends of the past ‘Dream Team’ while celebrating the success of this year’s roster.”

Comprised of NBA Hall of Famers, including Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone and David Robinson, the 1992 “Dream Team” is universally considered one of, if not the greatest, team ever assembled in basketball history. Fans will be able to pit that roster against this year’s athletes on the USA Basketball Men’s National Team, which includes NBA 2K17 cover athlete Paul George and Team 2K athletes Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, and Kyrie Irving.

But yeah, like you all have said, it really matters how it is integrated into the game. I don't know if that's going to be the case, because years ago when they first announced the dream team, one of the 2k developers said this is a step-by-step process, be patient, and allow ideas to manifest so that it sets up a possibility that something big like a game mode involving national teams can occur.

So true! The Turkish Airlines Euroleague should only feature 16 teams this year if 2K actually wants to reflect the 16-17 season. It's' down from 24 or 25 last season. Which is a huge question mark seeing how little 2K seems to care about them. If they are down to the 16 teams though I hope they put more effort onto them as well as the classic teams. They could all desperately use a touch up. As for modes I'm hoping for a stand alone Olympic tournament; maybe some online tournament as well. As well as the Euroleague finally being implemented into ML/MGM; Olympics for MP. Also, Coach K is interesting. I don't think they had him last time they included the Olympic team in 2k13, I think.

Right on. Hopefully their inclusion is not at the expense of any classic teams. Moreover, I believe the last time the Dream Team was in 2K, they were completely un-editable, meaning they were relegated to having Lego brick shoes and whatnot.

For whatever reason, I'm optimistic things will be different this time around. My shooting-from-the-hip hypothesis is that there'll be no Charles Barkley but full customization allowed.

It would be cool if they went all in with the Olympic stuff.

Inside Play Now you could have an Olympic style tournament mode (like a playoff mode).

One of the divisions in Play Now Online could be Olympic teams.

Cards, challenges and collections/rewards of Olympic players in MyTeam.

The ability for players to be called up to their national squads in MyGM. Maybe an optional convo with players trying to convince them not to play and to focus on staying healthy for next year or whatever.

The ability to play for your national team in MyCareer.



But we'll probably just get the usual play now only situation.
