Re: Patrick Kane No Longer NHL 16 Cover Athlete
EA can't take the chance to see if he's innocent. They have to make a decision right now, because this can drag on and the game comes out in a month. If he IS guilty and he's on the cover, EA has egg all over their face.
Plus, he's already guilty in the court of public opinion.Comment

Re: Patrick Kane No Longer NHL 16 Cover Athlete
How is this the right move if he's innocent? Have you read anything about the situation? It's a money-grabbing whore.
Here's the situation. Patrick Kane was out in a bar one night enjoying himself and having fun. At bar close (4am), he went back to his place with two girls. When they arrived, one of the girls and Patrick went back to his room leaving her friend on the couch. The girl finally came out of the bedroom around 9-10am and got her friend and they left. She then went down to the police station to file a rape claim. Upon the initial investigation, she had a "small scratch" on her leg.I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.Comment

From a PR standpoint, the choice is incredibly simple. This isn't about if he's guilty or innocent, its about what the worst case scenario is both ways. The downside to removing him is very small at this point, the downside to keeping him is incredibly bad.Comment

Patrick Kane is innocent until proven guilty. He's also allegedly accused of a pretty heinous crime. EA is right to take him off the cover and your victim-blaming is the reason so many women who have been sexually assaulted never come forward.Pine for the pork of the porcupineComment

What do you personally think is more probable? That Kane indeed raped her, or her having full well known who he is in a bar seeing an opportunity.Comment

Re: Patrick Kane No Longer NHL 16 Cover Athlete - New Cover Revealed
That's an assumption. No one has sued anyone for damages. I find it ironic that people will immediately come to the defense of pro athletes while making blanket statements about their accusers. Really, I expect more from OSers.
The fact is no one knows the truth about the situation except the individuals involved. I'd rather let the facts be known before resorting to name-calling.www.heyimbill.com | sports poster art and other cool stuffComment

Re: Patrick Kane No Longer NHL 16 Cover Athlete
What I am saying is that "innocent until proven guilty" is a terrible thing to say every time a celebrity is accused of rape because what you're really saying is "I trust a broken justice system more than I trust you."Comment

Re: Patrick Kane No Longer NHL 16 Cover Athlete
EA is under no obligation to await an innocent or guilty verdict, or even wait to see if the case goes to trial. Patrick Kane isn't an employee of EA, he's essentially a spokesman for the game. An investigation is currently underway, one in which Kane felt the need to secure a lawyer for, and this publicity from it will undoubtedly affect his public standing in a negative way. EA would prefer not to have that kind of publicity reflected in its video game, so this is really an easy decision on their part.Pine for the pork of the porcupineComment

Re: Patrick Kane No Longer NHL 16 Cover Athlete
This is an absolutely gross "either or" statement. Like again, some vile ish. And again, a gross amount of victim blaming is going on here as well. And truthfully this question does not even matter, it's about showing at least a modicum of respect and trying to ease the stigma of "rape culture" that leads to these sorts of questions being okay to even ask with a straight face.I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). LOL, I took myself out of the conversation with him. I can't tell if he's serious or not. At least I hope he isn't. Sheesh.Comment

Patrick Kane is a great hockey player, he's also got a lot of growing up to do and if he was found guilty it would not surprise me one bitComment
