Re: NBA 2K16 2K Pro-Am: Hit or Miss?

It's a giant, total, unquestionable hit. It's the mode many of us have been asking for and then some - I would have been perfectly satisfied if it had less customization options for the arena.

Yes, we still have to see gameplay and who knows how the servers will hold up, but in my opinion Pro-Am as a mode is a big freaking hit.

Implementation and deployment will determine if this is a "hit" or "miss" in 2k16.

The vision has always been awesome and exciting, the gaming reality not so much.

The 2k team in charge of this mode is attempting to bring a lot of features to the table which, normally, is a worry because sometimes there is too much on the plate to succeed in these scenarios.

This year is different because everything seems to be a variant of what exists already, so I do not see "feature creep" as a worry. As the others responding in this thread the danger is from existing infrastructure and system flaws.

Those fundamental issues that have existed over the years will threaten to turn 2K Pro-Am into a miss more than anything else.

OTP/Crew and MyPark are easily 2K's most popular game modes right now.

                Player progression.
It's time for 2k to separate online MyPlayer team play from MyCareer mode. We shouldn't be force to build our players for Pro-Am in MyCareer. Especially now with this story driven approach 2k is taking with their MyCareer mode. They haven't discuss players progression yet but it might be a miss if they handle it like they have been doing since 2k10.

It will be a big hit obviously. I'm just worried that the mode will be filled with 7' (or 6'11 if they lower the sf height) god abusing cheesers after a few months, i REALLY hope they introduce position AND height related attribute caps this year.

Now that we have this competitive mode it's high time to separate the men from the boys. Whether that separation will be based on skill/iq or exploits is entirely in 2k's hands, i hope they've made the right choice. I'm not expecting a miracle, i know there'll be exploits. That's unavoidable since our technology is still very much in the fetal or baby stage if you think about it. The point i'm trying to make is i'd rather play against a positionally average sized cheeser than a 7 foot one.

I am not even going to attmept to play a game in this mode until at least month after release, if you expect the service level to be stable the first day or week then you're going to be dissponited once again. This mode will probably be miss for the first couple of months due to server issues, then after that its going to be a hit.

Why is adding cpu teammates so difficult? I don't always have 5 and the whole point is to not have to play with randoms.

I would rather they remove this mode and my player altogether. Will never understand how someone can create themselves and pretend they are in the NBA. Only thing nice about this is the custom arena stuff. I wont be touching this mode at all but if it works for you have fun with it.

Why should they remove this mode because it doesn't appeal to you? There are plenty of other game modes that use NBA players.

                            1. Not everyone creates themselves. Those who do are usually the same people who create themselves in RPGs and other genres. I take it turn about, one year I create myself the next year I make a fictional player. Why do people do this? Well it's different for everyone. I suppose kids will be doing it because they're visualising their dreams, their ultimate goal. I do it for the same reason I play video games to begin with, for the same reason I listen to music, watch movies and read books. Escapism. I like to be immersed into that world and being able to make the character look a little like you can help with being immersed.

                            2. Some people just like the story mode aspect. Personally I've always been fascinated with what goes on behind the scenes in a sports franchise. So a story that reflects that is pretty cool. It's also more similar to other games. Sports games for a while we're just sports games. Now with these story modes they've opened themselves up to a large audience, any other genre you play has a story mode. Why shouldn't a sports game?

                            3. You're in the minority. End of. My Career is their biggest mode because it appeals to both the casual fans as well as a small chunk of the die hard fans (like myself). It's the most accessible mode because it has a story to play through which is a format people are accustomed to and you only have to control one player which makes the game simpler and easier to learn.

                            4. Playing online with a team of friends is the best part of any video game (since online was invented, I preferred having my friends in the same room back in the day but whatever). I love coop modes and anything that involves you and your buddies teaming up and working together to destroy an opponent.

                            5. Some people (like myselfs) are suckers for customisation. Making something unique and truly feel like "yours" is a big plus for me. I would rather have that than everyone playing on the same court.

I hope that helped you understand. If not, Gtfo, go to another thread and discuss quick matches or whatever game mode you're into. Fact of the matter is about 50% (if not more) of the 3k community has been asking for crew to return. It has. And the vast majority of 2k players play My Career in some way, it's the most popular mode. If you don't get it that's fair enough.

depends on servers and if there will be caps on the ratings depending on height per position.

7`3 SF with 90 speed, handling and such gonna make it a mode to quickly forget about for me.
