Polamalu at #2 is hilarious. He's not top 5 anymore. This is purely a name recognition rating.

I think he deserves it. The Steelers had very poor linebacker depth due to injury last year, and that's where Troy spent most of his time. He even sometimes lined up in a three point stance on the d line. And, he was still pretty productive.

#1 Troy isn't over the hill yet
#2 There just aren't that many good safeties

Maybe Troy was a tad high but again who are you going to put in his place??

Why do we have to put someone in his place? The other safeties are irrelevant. Troy does not deserve to be rated higher than 90.

There's no way you can give Polamalu the attributes he deserves, yet keep his rating under 90. No way. If so, you're purely gypping him of attributes just to keep his overall down so it "looks good" and "pleases the public". However, if you want him to have the abilities he does in real life, and play anywhere close to remotely like himself, than a 90+ overall rating is justified.

Do you guys care about gameplay or purely numbers?

You're right, with the EA ratings structure there is no way you could rate him what he should be rated but have him play the way he really plays. And that, my friend, is a big problem with Madden. They need to redo the way ratings are handled from top to bottom.

A better question would be, what safety CAN make that change, yet still be able to make plays and force turnovers and positively influence a floundering defense?
I knocked his coverage ability - that is where he is a liability.

Stuff the run all you can - if your secondary is shaky: you need a safety valve in coverage!

Troy is not a 90+ ballhawk; he used to be well rounded and that vetsatility shows in his move to the box (Berry reps heavily in box too for KC as a S) but Troy is basically an undersized LB now - as you put it.

I've always been a huge Troy fan since USC. At #2 IMO is too high, not the same Troy which isn't his fault, age catches up to us sooner or later.

Troy was excellent in coverage last year. There's a few too many guys here looking for simply the big plays or basic stats which aren't telling enough. I guess because he's getting older calling him overrated is the cool thing to do.

Really? What games were you watching? He was horrible in coverage he was roasted plenty of times last hear. It was laughable.

Spoken like someone who didnt even watch him play enough to comment.

Troy may not deserve 93, but its pretty clear there are alot of blind Steeler haters in here who just like to bash any high ratings our players get.

And Troy is still absolutely top 5 SS. Kam Chancellor and Eric Berry are the only ones clearly better than him at this point. And this isnt because Troy is elite anymore, but moreso because there arent many great safeties.

Troy has dropped off in coverage, I wont even deny that, but he is still a top 3 box safety in the game and still had a great year. Maybe not 93 good, but IMO, there isnt a single SS at this point who deserves to be rated 93 or higher.

And if you guys want to blame anyone for bad ratings, blame Donny Moore. His ratings are always terrible.

He may not be 93 good, but he is certainly top 5.

Some of you are either drastically underrating Polamalu or drastically overrating the quality of other safeties.

The Steelers defense was terrible and Polamalu and Cam Heyward were the only bright spots. Ike Taylor was the a bottom 5 starting CB, Ryan Clark was THE WORST starting FS, and our pass rush and DLine outside of Heyward were garbage, especially the first 10 games.

Troy, even though he had a few mishaps, was still very good last year, especially in the box. Wasnt great in coverage, but he wasnt terrible either.

Pretty easy to see which of you dont actually watch the games and just make blind, random assessments of players.

In the age of advance statistics and access to coaches film why are we still debating. I was hoping EA would you use the statistic analysis from Pro Football Focus and Football Outsiders to determine the ratings of the players.

This. The injury rating just doesn't have enough (any?) affect on the overall rating. I'd give him good physical ratings, but lower injury ratings. If injury affected overall, that would bring his rating down. I'd pretty much lower all the OVR ratings across the board, but we all know that OVR doesn't really matter much anyway.
