Re: MLB 14 The Show Blog - Online Franchise

Another possible bummer for those of us that want to do a solo online franchise is saved games.

It's likely that you aren't going to be able to save multiple instances of your franchise. So if you lose a guy in free agency, or whatever, and feel like you'd like to do that stage over again you are out of luck.

Those improvements are as follows:
a few things:
1) I am going to assume that this is a big fat no but will division realignment be in offline franchise?
2) Was trade logic improved at all for offline? meaning am I gonna actually get turned down trying to trade a mid level prospect and average MLBer for a player like Addison Russell?
3) I didn't c this but is Online franchise going to have carry over saves to MLB15 and so on?

On a big like note. I do like to c that budget logic is going to be improved...hopefully that max 10% ceiling will be fixed.

*oh and if we could get a park builder in the game JUST to replace that horrific ballpark in Miami thatd be great....

I wonder what the age group breakdown is that plays this game. Baseball fans tend to be older, that's just a fact. The kids who grew up with video games are now in their 20s and 30s, so they now have full-time jobs, spouses, and children of their own. The push for online gaming (online franchises) I would think would come from people in high school and college. They have the free time and got used to online because of games like COD and Halo. It seems like those of us who work and have a family (even more so for those with kids) prefer offline because of time constraints and erratic schedules. The industry still targets, and rightfully so, the younger generation; however, there is an ever growing base of older gamers.

I may be wrong about older gamers preferring offline gaming, but it's just the vibe I'm gathering. If I have an hour to fit in a game, I don't want to chance playing someone who will cheat, glitch, and drop curse words/slurs all game. I also don't want to spend what little time I have looking for people who aren't like that. Plus with baseball predicated heavily on timing, online lag will ruin the game (even if happens only a few times during a game, that's the difference between a K and a HR).

So while I understand why there's a move in the industry to focus on online, I just think there's an ever growing base of older gamers who have the money to buy games but may not because the offline experience is forgotten about. I use gaming as time to myself to unwind, not social time. I want to relax while playing, not become more frustrated because of how my opponent is acting.
thats all fine and well, but the online community has been asking for a franchise mode for years now and have finally gotten it so not a waste of time and resources

I guess it depends on how you look at it. It could also be said that online has finally been brought up to speed to where offline has been for many years. Obviously with it being new it has some bells and whistles not found in offline franchise. Each year a portion of the game gets more attention then another whether it be RTTS, Franchise, online etc. It does not mean the other modes sit there and collect dust, they are tweaked and messaged accordingly. I would assume based on past online usage with the Show it warranted this type of attention and direction.

I don't think anyone is trying to rain on the parade of online franchise. It's just weird that most of this stuff wouldn't be available in both modes. It doesn't make sense for a new mode to leap frog the normal offline mode in terms of features.

I think you misunderstood my point. I'm saying if I can do an online franchise by myself, then it is a waste of resources. A huge waste of resources. They are putting more features into the online product that they may or may not have time to put into the offline. But by making the online franchise an offline one by only having human controlled team, I get all the features and make the other one completely useless.

By pitching to us that there may be more features for one group of players over the other can result in a PR nightmare. You see it creeping up in these discussions from many people. If they were able to focus on one set of coding, they could add more features with that time than using their time developing the same features twice. From other threads, it sounds like they may be moving in that direction. That could have been the difference between an April and a May release date, the extra time needed to implement the same features twice.

So how much is the ps+ B.S.? Is this just for the ps4 or the ps3 as well. Forgive me I don't have internet to my ps3 right now so I don't know much about online play.
